2. Solution: a mixture of two or more types of
matter evenly spread out and not easily
separated
Every sample of the solution will contain the exact
same parts, properties, and appearance
Made up of two parts: a solute and a solvent
Solute + Solvent = Solution
Solute: the part of the solution that is being dissolved
(usually the lesser amount)
Solvent: the part of the solution that dissolves the
solute (usually the greater amount)
3. Solutions can contain materials that are in
different states
Ex: Kool Aid
Liquid solvent = water
Solid solute = Kool Aid mix and sugar
Factors that affect how fast a solid
dissolves:
Size
Temperature
Stirring
4. Concentration: the amount of solute that is
dissolved in the solution
A concentrated solution has a lot of solute in it
A dilute solution has a little bit of solute in it
Dilute means “thinned”
