This document outlines and describes 5 poor listening styles: spacing out, where the listener's mind wanders and ignores the speaker; pretend listening, where the listener only responds with brief acknowledgments without paying attention; selective listening, focusing only on parts of the conversation that interest the listener; word listening, concentrating only on the words and not other cues; and self-centered listening, viewing everything only from one's own perspective. The document was created by Kayla Galan to discuss ineffective listening habits.

2. Spacing out
Spacing out: is when someone is talking but we ignore them
because our mind is somewhere else.

3. Pretend listening
We aren’t paying attention but we are pretending to listen by making
little comments such as “yeah”, ”cool”, and “sounds great”.

4. Selective listening
Selective listening: is where we pay attention only to
the part of the conversation that interest us.
