Where do

come from?
3. Until the late ‘80 there were more Italians
who went abroad than foreigners who
came to Italy.
But over the last 20 years the foreign
population is increased a lot: currently
legal immigrants are 3.891.295, which is
equivalent to 6,5 % of the national
population.

5. ABRUZZO
has a long history of emigration, in fact
already since the last two decades of the
nineteenth century it is recorded relatively
high rates of emigration.
In the first 15 years of the 900 the people
who left this region were about 470.000, to
achieve especially: United States, Venezuela,
Brasil and France.
6. Recently Abruzzo has changed into a land of
migration: in the course of the 80 years it
begins to harbor the first migrants, mostly
North Africans.
Thanks to the discrete job opportunities and
to the integration possibilities that the region
is able to offer, today Abruzzo has become a
pole of attraction for migrant people.
