This document discusses 5 pieces of dreadful student advice that should be avoided:
1. Dismissing the importance of the first year and not putting in effort, as grades do count in later years and good performance helps with preparation.
2. Signing up for every extracurricular without limit, as it is better to commit fully to a few activities for better experiences and resume quality over many shallow commitments.
3. Only focusing on getting top grades without other experiences, as excellent extracurricular achievements can make up for a small grade difference and success is not guaranteed by grades alone.
4. Blindly following very specific advice like "never do this" or "always do that", as diversity

Can you work well on a team, make decisions and solve problems? Those are the skills employers most want when they are deciding which new college graduates to hire. The next-most-important skill: ability to communicate verbally with people inside and outside an organization. Employers also want new hires to have technical knowledge related to the job, but that’s not nearly as important as good teamwork, decision-making and communication skills, and the ability to plan and prioritize work.

I'm here give you the inside scoop on internships. As a college student, I've completed a ton of internships. Whether an internship is paid, for credit, unpaid or not-for-credit doesn't change its value. Internships are investments in your future. Often, students are reluctant to pursue internships because they worry they'll be stuck doing menial tasks like getting coffee or making copies and let's face it- no one wants to work for free. The truth is, although not all internships pay in cash they do pay in other ways.

Careers fairs give you the chance to meet employers face-to-face, and to learn about current vacancies and opportunities available. The recruiters are trying to market their organisations to you.
However, the fairs are also an opportunity for you to market yourself to potential employers. Often the stands will be manned by graduate recruitment staff and / or senior managers, who may also review future applications. They may remember meeting you at the fair, and so making a positive impression may help you make a later, successful application. If you’ve been particularly impressive they may even ask for your name and contact details, and watch out for your name as applications come in.

With so many graduates now on the market, employers will look for evidence of skills and work experience, which will make you stand out from the crowd. Start gathering them now or work on what you've got so you are ready to impress recruiters.

While it is not as long, a cover letter requires the same attention as preparing a curriculum vitae or resume.
The role of your cover letter is to ensure your resume gets read. Job applications are scanned in seconds by a human eye or a piece of software. In both cases the reader is looking to see if your skills and experience match the criteria detailed in a job ad.

Isn’t it curious? We look at other people, envy them for looking so terribly perfect and wish we could trade places with them, while they consider us and think of the same thing. We're jealous of other people who themselves are jealous of us. We suffer from low self-regard, lack of assurance and lose hope in self-improvement and ever winning anyone over.

The Path of Pain: Mastering Game Design in 20 steps - takeawayKacper Szymczak
We all have a Design Muscle. In order for it to create what one wishes it to, it must be trained. It must be submitted to painful exercise. It must be strengthened to the level where it won't matter if the time is lacking, if your boss wants 10 versions just to scrap them all, if the editor is crashing, if the topic is boring, or you're working on a clone. The philosophy the speaker will present is grounded on mastering excellence and focusing on the fascinating craftsmanship of game design, which is - as often forgotten - a world of fun in itself.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

1. 5 Dreadful Pieces of Student Advice
(and why you need to stop following them)
Powered by HeySuccess
Designed by Anca Afloroaei
2. How can advice be dreadful?
Not all advice is equal
Even the best intentions don’t make for the best
suggestions
But don’t worry!
You can recognize a dreadful advice and choose
NOT to follow it
3. What’s the worst piece of
advice you’ve been given at
university?
4. Here are 5 Dreadful pieces of
Advice you SHOULDN’T follow!
Be careful! ;)
5. 1. “1st Year Doesn’t Count“
You may think:
There’s no difference between getting 40% and 70%
or higher
You just need to pass and spend most of your time
enjoying everything else.
Bad move!
6. Why is that BAD?
Dismissing the importance of your 1st
year is one of the most misguided and dangerous
pieces of advice around.
Still wondering WHY?
Putting in the effort helps you to progress.
Without it, you won’t be so prepared for the next year,
when your marks do count.
7. 2. “Sign Up for Everything”
It may be extremely tempting to do ALL THE THINGS
BUT …
… signing up to every society, every cause, and every
extra-curricular activity you can
WON’T help your CV (neither your schedule)
8. What can you do?
Commit to just a few things
Throw all your enthusiasm and interest into them
Make it count
Aim to gather great stories to tell and a sense of
achievement.
WHY?
• You will have better experiences
• You will definitely look better on paper
9. Still not convinced ‘Why’?
Hint:
Nobody cares that you were in seventeen different clubs
They care that you did amazing things in
one or two of them
Tip:
Find at least one society or group
that you think will push you in a new direction
10. 3. “Only Concentrate on the Study” / “Push Toward a First”
Some students sign up for nothing:
• their degree journey is all about the magical
First Class Honours.
However, this may not be as beneficial as one may think …
… firsts are on the up BUT a top grade
is NO guarantee of either success or fame or wealth!
11. Is it good to aim for a top mark or … ?
Yes, getting the top mark is fantastic
You shouldn’t aim lower for no reason
BUT …
… neither should you ignore everything else around you
in your pursuit of that grade
Tip:
Do your sensible best, not your perfectionist best
12. Still a bit blurred?
It is not about ignoring your study,
but rather improving skills and achievements.
Hint:
When you accomplish outstanding achievements,
the difference between a top mark and a good mark
is not so important.
The new achievements should more than make up for it ;)
13. 4. Anything Too Specific –“Never do this… / “Always do that...”
The diversity of universities ensures that:
• there are loads of things you can do
&
• loads you will never manage to do
… even in the 3 or so years you’re there.
HOWEVER
Be cautious of anyone advising you of a dead cert.
14. What is wrong with a dead cert?
A dead cert = JUST an opinion
The advice may prove right for you in the end
BUT …
… blindly following risks stepping into disaster.
Tip:
Next time someone says you HAVE to do it,
first consider it for yourself and only if you’re happy with it,
do it on your own terms and for your own reasons ;)
15. 5. “Don’t Panic…Degrees Are Getting Easier.”
The ‘Don’t Panic’ bit is fine
but
the reason not to panic does not sit right.
WHY?
You may be tempted to try getting away with the smallest
amount of work possible.
This tactic does not save time in the long …
… but it does more harm than good.
16. What can you do?
Yes, try not to panic!
But No, don’t expect your degree to be easy …
… if you do, the reality will likely emerge
at precisely the wrong time.
Tip:
Explore ways to make your effort effortless
and your challenges enjoyable ;)
You’ll be better placed to find an enjoyable flow in your work
Your degree will feel easier, but by no means will it be easy!
17. Heard enough? Next time someone
gives you a piece of advice …
before following it, make sure it’s
not a dreadful one ;)
