I. PURPOSE
To establish a consistent policy on the care and feeding of the Shelter cats.

VII. PROCEDURE
There are to be no more than three shelter cats at any given time on the Shelter property.
If one is lost for any reason, a new cat can only be added after it is approved by the
Director of Animal Care.
Any cat that is made a shelter cat will be FeLV/FIV tested, vaccinated, have flea
treatment, altered and micro chipped before being released to the shelter. The flea
treatment will be applied monthly to every shelter cat; the treatment will be entered into
the Chameleon Treatment Screen.

All other cats that are free roaming on the Shelter property will be trapped and held for
retention. The disposition of the animal will be determined by the supervisor on duty. The
traps will be set out by the PM Kennel Attendant by direction of the Supervising Kennel
Attendant. All staff will alert the supervisor on duty of any free roaming cats that they see
on the property. If for any reason a cat escapes from any staff member, they will report
that escape to the supervisor on duty, when possible the cage card will be printed for
identifying the cat once it is trapped.
FEEDING
The cats will be fed in the designated areas only.
All bowls will be picked up within an hour after feeding. If the cats are fed before
morning cleaning begins, the dishes are to be picked up after cleaning is done and before
the gates open at 10:00 am.
They will be fed again at 5 pm; the dish is to be picked up at the end of shift.
No other cats but the three designated shelter cats are to be fed on the Shelter property.
