I. PURPOSE:
To outline and define a uniformed Inventory of Clinic and Surgery supplies at OC
Animal Care.
II. POLICY:
Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVT) shall perform all duties specified in this
document and shall work collaboratively with all OCACS staff to ensure a fully supplied
Clinic and Surgery.
III. SCOPE:
Applicable to all Registered Veterinary Technicians

A. Inventory – Non-Controlled Items
• Maintain an adequate supply of drugs, vaccines, bandage material, etc.
within the clinic and surgery room
• Write in Want Book when last bottle is taken out of storage room or metal
cabinet.

• Place date sticker on tank when tank is opened. Place an empty sticker on
tank when tank is empty.
• When last take is opened notify Supervisor and Supply Desk.
Inventory all supplies once a week or as needed using the Inventory Ordering
Log.
• Acquire an Inventory Ordering Log
• Walk through the clinic and surgery checking every item on the Ordering
Log.
• Check stock room for back up supplies, Garage refrigerator and Want
Book for needed supplies.
• Mark on Inventory Ordering Log the quantity necessary to stock facility
• Submit Inventory Log to Supervisor and Supply desk.
B. Inventory – Controlled Drugs
Inventory all supplies once a week or as needed using the Inventory Ordering
Log.
• Print Inventory Ordering Log
• Check Large and Small Safe in Doctor’ office, Clinic Lock box, and
Surgery Lock box.
• Check Want Book for any needed supplies
• Mark on Inventory Ordering Log quantity necessary to stock facility.
• Submit Inventory Log to Supervisor and Supply Desk.
1. Receiving a shipment of Controlled drugs
• Confirm drug and quaintly.
• Place drug in appropriate safe
• Number all controlled drug with the desired numbering
format
• Transfer number sequence into the controlled drug logbook
following form format. – Date- Received-Location of
action-initial of user-Qty on Hand.

• Place receipt in back of designated file folder
2. Daily inventory of controlled substance.
• All newly open controlled drugs are written on daily log following
form format and entered into the controlled drug book weekly.
Date-bottle number-location of action-initial for user-Qty on Hand.
• Controlled drugs are entered into the treatment screen under
medication distinguishing between surgery or clinic drugs.
• Chameleon will maintain records of all drugs used; Drug name,
Date, Animal ID #, Amount, and person dispensing.
• Controlled Substance - S for surgery is printed after each surgery
day.
• Euthanasia Solution Report is print weekly.
• Controlled Substance Non-S print monthly.
3. Monthly Inventory
• Acquire a Monthly Inventory Log
• Take inventory of all Lock Boxes and Safes.
• Confirm inventory with Drug Log book.
• Place Inventory when complete in appropriate file folder
4. Administrative Monitoring of Inventory
• A complete summary report of the monthly inventory of
Controlled and Non- Controlled drugs and supplies are to be
submitted quarterly to the Administrative Manager for review and
ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations.
