YOUR NAME HERE
 This template PowerPoint presentation includes all the relevant
elements you need to cover your film production.
 It is suggested you save this PP in a different name so you
always have a copy – some sections require you to delete the
information on the slide and replace with your own work
 Add more pages to each section where necessary [you should be
doing this!]
 Add visuals as you see necessary
 This document will be added to as you progress through the pre-
production phase.
 Remember, you need to give as much attention to your
sound planning as you do to your visual planning
 Use the story development resource to help structure your short
film with more detail
 Not all the aspects have to be followed verbatim, use the
resource the plan out character, motivation, stakes and the arc of
your film, this will help to ensure that it works structurally
 Proforma is on bb
 Add a structural breakdown of each scene once you have done
this
 Breakdown your film into it’s basic sections [e.g. via scene
breakdown or similar] and apply broad visual ideas to each
section. You should list the shots required
 You can use this as the master template for your production, then
add more shots to each section when you develop your full visual
plan
 From this you could work on a conventional script if you want, but
using the scene breakdowns should be enough

A group of friends are
walking out from college,
one gets a text on there
phone telling them to go to
this tunnel under the road,
He splits of from his
friends they go there and
start to be chased by
some sort of creature.
Text messages character
is receiving should appear
on his above his phone
floating in mid air so the
audience can see the
messages.
Pholey sounds should be
used for the background
audio. iPhone messaging
sound should be heard
whilst text messages
appear on screen.
Monster howling sound
can be found on the
internet.
2 20 seconds The character is being
chased by some sort of
creature. We don’t see it
as the camera is the
creatures perspective.
The character runs into
the bathroom to were he
thinks he will be safe. The
lights begin to flicker and
he sees a ghostly figure in
the mirror which jump
scares him.
The effect of the ghost in the
mirror I can get of YouTube
and overlay it using Chroma
key. One thing that may be
difficult is to get a shot of the
mirror without the camera in
the background. In terms of
the flickering lights that can be
done by changing the opacity,
lighting, contrast, gamma and
colour grading of the video in
premier repeatedly.
In terms of the audio I
want to be able to find the
sound effect of light bulbs
flickering on and off to
provide atmosphere to the
shot as well as maybe
using the camera audio so
it seems more realistic.
3 25 The character enters a
room were he sees his
friends dead bodies on
the floor, The door
shuts and locks itself
trapping him inside. In
the classroom the
computer screens flick
on and display the
message “it is behind
I thought I could have

animation at home and
then playing the video

time to give the
impression that they

reaching its climax with
its most tense moment.
I was also going to try
and find some
unnerving
computerised sound
effect to be played
whilst the message
appears on the
Visual Planning
 This section is concerned with the visual planning of your film
 You should use this section to develop the sequencing or your
video, establish the visuals look and sequencing of your film and
create a structure for you to follow when filming
 It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the film before you make it; it
will make filming and production a more streamlined process
 The following tasks are part of your visual planning
 Pre-visualisation and concept boards
 Storyboarding
 Shot list
 As I am producing a horror film I want to be able to create a
scary atmosphere through simple things. One of the major
visual conventions is color grading. In Post production I will
apply several dark color gradients as well as adjusting the
contrast ratio as well as the gamma tones to create a dark
atmosphere.
 Your storyboard should bring your idea to life
 Provide an idea of the sequencing of you film
 Provides a basis for production
 Suggested online storyboard creators are:
 http://www.pixton.com [very complicated]
 http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you to insert your own images]
 Alternatively, hand draw or photograph your storyboard and scan
or copy to insert it onto your slides
 There are lots of tips collected together on Blackboard!

Main Cast
In terms of the main cast as it is my film I will mostly be doing the directing
as well as some acting to make sure the vision I had for the film is truly
realized. As I agreed to help Luke, Will & Cameron with there films they will
also be helping me with mine. Will and Luke don’t really like acting but all
they need to do really is walk down the street talking to me and later on lie
on the floor and pretend to be dead as for the majority of the film It is only
focuses on one character. I have chosen Cameron to be the cameraman
as when we filmed the test video we were doing to practice for production
of this film he was behind the camera for the whole film then and he did a
very good job so that is why I’d like him to do the camera. In terms of
contingency plans if something goes wrong with the others that are helping
to produce my film, for example someone isn’t able to turn up. Andreas
said he will help if he can if we need an extra person. If necessary we can
also shuffle roles around within the group to accommodate the loss.
Camera Crew stand here and
take a shot of the tunnel from
a distance for a few seconds.
Camera Crew films actors
walking down pavement from
the front
Camera
Actors
If we are allowed to film in the
classroom when it is empty
then I will have the camera in
front of the door facing the
actors towards the back end
of the classroom. The camera
position will be subject to
change to create different
shots from different angles.
In general I will be filming
in these areas of the
college. It is subject to
change however if one
location is unavailable or
two busy.
Classroom,
Stairwell,
Bathroom
This form is not applicable for
our production as it will all be
filmed in a public place and
inside college. If we were filming
in a specific location for example
on private land or onsite of
someone’s business they would
have to fill this form in and sign it
for us to have permission to film
and produce a film with footage
of there land, location or
business.
In terms of Props and equipment. The cameras will be provided by college
as well as the tripod and equipment in general, as we are only filming on the
local area all we really need to do is carry it to the specific location. In terms
of props our play is actually really minimalist as all it requires is a phone
(which we all have) and a digital watch (which I have).
The phone will be used for the character to answer these anonymous text
messages on and the brief for the film states that it has to include a watch or
a clock. The reason I chose a digital wristwatch is because my watch is
digital and it has a stopwatch on it which I was going to record and reverse
the clip to give the impression that it is counting down to the characters
death.
In terms of consumables (food, water) we will be near College and Tesco’s
so we will be able to go to those places at lunch time. Some of us may even
have a packed lunch which they will bring anyway.
Soundtrack Planning
 As there is no dialogue apart from one statement in the film. As a
result I won’t be utilizing the audio recorded by the camera
microphone in the film. Another reason why I won’t is because the
weather is unpredictable also it is December and currently very
stormy and windy so that is likely to be a problem as the wind will
be picked up by the camera microphone and will significantly
decrease the audio quality. When the character says the
statement “that wasn’t supposed to happen” that will be the only
point were I do use the camera audio and it will be inside college
so it shouldn’t be a problem.
 In terms of the audio tracks in the film, I will either be sourcing copyright
free soundtracks of the internet or experimenting in garage band to create
my own piece. Due to the time constraint however I will likely be sourcing it
of the internet. I will defiantly be getting sound effects of YouTube as that is
a really good source for free stock sound effects that I will want for my film.
I could record some sounds and add them on later using pholey
techniques however for my film specifically I am not really sure how that
would apply as most of the sounds ill want to use are non natural so it
would be very hard to find a real world equivalent that would be able to fit
correctly over the video of my project to create a convincing sound effect.

In terms of the flickering lights that can be done by changing the opacity, lighting, contrast, gamma and colour grading of the video in premier repeatedly. In terms of the audio I want to be able to find the sound effect of light bulbs flickering on and off to provide atmosphere to the shot as well as maybe using the camera audio so it seems more realistic. 3 25 The character enters a room were he sees his friends dead bodies on the floor, The door shuts and locks itself trapping him inside. In the classroom the computer screens flick on and display the message “it is behind I thought I could have the message on the computer screens appear by creating the animation at home and then playing the video on the computer screens at the same time to give the impression that they The music should be reaching its climax with its most tense moment. I was also going to try and find some unnerving computerised sound effect to be played whilst the message appears on the

  • 12.  As I am producing a horror film I want to be able to create a scary atmosphere through simple things. One of the major visual conventions is color grading. In Post production I will apply several dark color gradients as well as adjusting the contrast ratio as well as the gamma tones to create a dark atmosphere.

  • 21. Main Cast In terms of the main cast as it is my film I will mostly be doing the directing as well as some acting to make sure the vision I had for the film is truly realized. As I agreed to help Luke, Will & Cameron with there films they will also be helping me with mine. Will and Luke don’t really like acting but all they need to do really is walk down the street talking to me and later on lie on the floor and pretend to be dead as for the majority of the film It is only focuses on one character. I have chosen Cameron to be the cameraman as when we filmed the test video we were doing to practice for production of this film he was behind the camera for the whole film then and he did a very good job so that is why I’d like him to do the camera. In terms of contingency plans if something goes wrong with the others that are helping to produce my film, for example someone isn’t able to turn up. Andreas said he will help if he can if we need an extra person. If necessary we can also shuffle roles around within the group to accommodate the loss.
  • 22. Camera Crew stand here and take a shot of the tunnel from a distance for a few seconds. Camera Crew films actors walking down pavement from the front
  • 23. Camera Actors If we are allowed to film in the classroom when it is empty then I will have the camera in front of the door facing the actors towards the back end of the classroom. The camera position will be subject to change to create different shots from different angles. In general I will be filming in these areas of the college. It is subject to change however if one location is unavailable or two busy. Classroom, Stairwell, Bathroom

  • 31. This form is not applicable for our production as it will all be filmed in a public place and inside college. If we were filming in a specific location for example on private land or onsite of someone’s business they would have to fill this form in and sign it for us to have permission to film and produce a film with footage of there land, location or business.
  • 32. In terms of Props and equipment. The cameras will be provided by college as well as the tripod and equipment in general, as we are only filming on the local area all we really need to do is carry it to the specific location. In terms of props our play is actually really minimalist as all it requires is a phone (which we all have) and a digital watch (which I have). The phone will be used for the character to answer these anonymous text messages on and the brief for the film states that it has to include a watch or a clock. The reason I chose a digital wristwatch is because my watch is digital and it has a stopwatch on it which I was going to record and reverse the clip to give the impression that it is counting down to the characters death. In terms of consumables (food, water) we will be near College and Tesco’s so we will be able to go to those places at lunch time. Some of us may even have a packed lunch which they will bring anyway.
  • 34.  As there is no dialogue apart from one statement in the film. As a result I won’t be utilizing the audio recorded by the camera microphone in the film. Another reason why I won’t is because the weather is unpredictable also it is December and currently very stormy and windy so that is likely to be a problem as the wind will be picked up by the camera microphone and will significantly decrease the audio quality. When the character says the statement “that wasn’t supposed to happen” that will be the only point were I do use the camera audio and it will be inside college so it shouldn’t be a problem.
  • 35.  In terms of the audio tracks in the film, I will either be sourcing copyright free soundtracks of the internet or experimenting in garage band to create my own piece. Due to the time constraint however I will likely be sourcing it of the internet. I will defiantly be getting sound effects of YouTube as that is a really good source for free stock sound effects that I will want for my film. I could record some sounds and add them on later using pholey techniques however for my film specifically I am not really sure how that would apply as most of the sounds ill want to use are non natural so it would be very hard to find a real world equivalent that would be able to fit correctly over the video of my project to create a convincing sound effect.
