Kim Il Sung was born in 1912 in Korea and died in 1994 in Pyongyang, North Korea from a heart attack. He moved to China in 1925 where he attended middle school and was arrested at age 15 for being a member of the South Manchurian Communist Youth League. After his release, he joined the Korean revolutionary Army and by 1932 had become the leader of a guerrilla group fighting against Japanese occupation of Korea. He later received military and political training in the Soviet Union. Kim Il Sung went on to become the leader and ruler of North Korea from 1948 until his death in 1994.
