The document discusses the Stolen Generations policy in Australia from 1909 to 1969:
- Indigenous children were forcibly removed from their families by the government and placed in institutions without parental consent under the policy.
- Over 100,000 Indigenous children were estimated to have been impacted by forced removal from their families and communities.
- The experiences of being taken from their families and culture had long-lasting traumatic impacts on the Stolen Generations and Indigenous communities. The effects are still felt today.

◻ Removal of Indigenous children from their family was official
government policy from 1909 to 1969.
◻ It was managed by the Aborigines Protection Board (APB). They
placed children in government institutions and missions
◻ The APB had the power to remove the children without parental
consent, and without a court order. They labelled the children
‘destitute’ and ‘neglected’. This made it easy to remove them
from their families for their ‘moral’ and ‘spiritual’ welfare.
