The Aboriginal Protection Board was established in 1883 in New South Wales, Australia to control the lives and affairs of Aboriginal people according to the theories of social Darwinism prevalent at that time. The Board had total control over Aboriginal people in NSW from 1883 to 1969, determining where they lived and worked and restricting their rights. While intended to protect Aboriginal people, in practice the Board persecuted them by enforcing segregation and assimilation policies that undermined Aboriginal culture and self-determination.
