Activity:
How are you spending your time?
 Lots of valuable time hidden in every day
 Take advantage of time that is usually wasted
1. Always carry “pocket work,” so you have something to do if
you find an extra moment
2. Look over class material immediately after class, during the
time you are walking to your car, or waiting for a friend
3. **Record study information, and play it back when you are
getting ready or driving
4. What are other tips and tricks to utilize your time
efficiently?
 What is a habit?
 Take inventory of your habits by writing down daily activities
 Limit texting, e-mail, and internet time… especially when you are
working but…
 Take time-outs where you are allowed short increments of time to
check Facebook, text friends, and otherwise relax
 Listen to your body; don’t force yourself to stay up late and study–
retention is decreased when you’re tired, lethargic, or just not that
into it
1. Schedule “thinking” (cerebral) tasks such as reading, writing and
problem solving, for morning and evening.
2. Save “active” behavior such as fieldwork, lab work, exercise and
errands for mid-afternoon when you are feeling more alert.
**Obviously, if you are a morning or night person, know this, and
switch accordingly.
Work expands to fit the time allotted
-We take as long for tasks as we perceive we
have– can you think of an example?
-In order to combat this effect, set time/work
goals for yourself, so you don’t end up working
on assignments until the last minute, just
because you can

this?
 Improve and develop other skills
◦ Study skills
◦ Project management
◦ …what else?
 Test taking
 Punctuality
 Get the job!
◦ Interview
◦ Impress your boss, good reviews, get a raise!
◦ Make the most out of your job experience
◦ Handle interruptions (which are inevitable)
 Assure you are enjoying all aspects of your
life!
 Will you manage every day the same? Week?
Month? Year?
◦ What stays the same? What changes?
 Adaptability
◦ Talk about a recent example you had to change
your plan/schedule last minute
 How did you handle this? Did you change anything in
your schedule?
 What are some tips and tricks you know of?
 What do you wonder about?
