What is Trout Unlimited
• Trout Unlimited is an American non-profit organization dedicated to
the conservation of freshwater streams, rivers, and associated upland
habitats for trout, salmon, other aquatic species, and people.
• Trout Unlimited was founded in 1959
• Has over 300,000 members
TU Mission Vision Statement
• To conserve, protect and restore North America's coldwater fisheries
and their watersheds.
• By the next generation, Trout Unlimited will ensure that robust
populations of native and wild coldwater fish once again thrive within
their North American range, so that our children can enjoy healthy
fisheries in their home waters.
Local Chapter Activities
• River Cleanups: Just removed 4.6 tons of trash from Scotts Creek
• Conduct River Cleanups along the Tuckasegee River prior to the
Delayed Harvest fishing season opening.
Trout in the Classroom
• Trout (or Salmon) in the Classroom (TIC or SIC) offers students of all
ages a chance to raise Salmonids in a classroom setting and then
release them into a nearby stream or river. Caring for the fish fosters
a conservation ethic in the students, and the act of walking to a
streambank and directly releasing the fingerlings into the water
makes a concrete connection between caring for the fish and caring
for the water.
