John 3:1-15
There was a man of the Pharisees named
Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to
Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know
that You are a teacher come from God; for no one
can do these signs that You do unless God is with
him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most
assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God.”

John 3:1-15
Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born
when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his
mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered,
“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of
water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom
of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and
that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

John 3:1-15
Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born
again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you
hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes
from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born
of the Spirit.” Nicodemus answered and said to
Him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered
and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and
do not know these things?

John 3:1-15
Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We
know and testify what We have seen, and you do not
receive Our witness. If I have told you earthly things
and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell
you heavenly things? No one has ascended to heaven
but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son
of Man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the
serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of
Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should
not perish but have eternal life.

- Who was Nicodemus?
- Why did he come to Jesus by night?
- Was he afraid of what people might think of him?

- Did he understand what Jesus told him?
- Is there a difference between the spiritual and the natural?
- What did He mean by the raising of the serpent?

Numbers 21:4-9
Then they journeyed from Mount Hor by the Way of
the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the
soul of the people became very discouraged on the
way. And the people spoke against God and against
Moses: “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to
die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no
water, and our soul loathes this worthless bread.” So
the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and
they bit the people; and many of the people of Israel
died. Therefore the people came to Moses, and said,

Numbers 21:4-9
“We have sinned, for we have spoken against the
LORD and against you; pray to the LORD that He take
away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the
people. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery
serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that
everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall
live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on
a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone,
when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.

- What was going to
happen to Him?
- Did Jesus know already
how He was going to die?

- What happen if we look
to Jesus on the cross?
- Will we live by trusting
in Him?
- Did the spiritual leaders
of Israel believe in Jesus?

John 7:45-52
Then the officers came to the chief priests and
Pharisees, who said to them, “Why have you not
brought Him?” The officers answered, “No man ever
spoke like this Man!” Then the Pharisees answered
them, “Are you also deceived? Have any of the rulers
or the Pharisees believed in Him? But this crowd that
does not know the law is accursed.”

John 7:45-52
Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one
of them) said to them, “Does our law judge a man
before it hears him and knows what he is doing?” They
answered and said to him, “Are you also from Galilee?
Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of
Galilee.”

- Were the Pharisees confused with Jesus?
- Why did Nicodemus defend Jesus?
- Did he believe in Him already?
- How was Nicodemus heart after the cross?

John 19:38-42
After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of
Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate
that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate
gave him permission. So he came and took the body of
Jesus. And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by
night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and
aloes, about a hundred pounds. Then they took the
body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the
spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.

John 19:38-42
Now in the place where He was crucified there was a
garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one
had yet been laid. So there they laid Jesus, because of
the Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.

- Could Nicodemus hide 100 lbs of spices?
- Did he believe in Jesus now?
- What made him a believer?
- The crucifixion?

- Was Nicodemus heart open to the revelation of God?
- Did it come at once or was it a progressive process?
- Did Jesus fulfilled prophesies about the coming Messiah?

- Why did Jesus enter Jerusalem if the leaders
were seeking His life?
- How did HE enter the city?

Mark 11:1-7
Now when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethphage
and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of
His disciples; and He said to them, “Go into the
village opposite you; and as soon as you have
entered it you will find a colt tied, on which no one
has sat. Loose it and bring it. And if anyone says to
you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has
need of it,’ and immediately he will send it here.”

Mark 11:1-7
So they went their way, and found the colt tied by
the door outside on the street, and they loosed it.
But some of those who stood there said to them,
“What are you doing, loosing the colt?” And they
spoke to them just as Jesus had commanded. So
they let them go. Then they brought the colt to Jesus
and threw their clothes on it, and He sat on it.

- How did Jesus know about what was going to happen?
- Can only God know the future?
- How was Messiah coming to Jerusalem?

Zechariah 9:9-10
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!, O daughter of
Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is
just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a
donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey. I will cut off the
chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem;
The battle bow shall be cut off. He shall speak peace
to the nations; His dominion shall be ‘from sea to
sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.’

- Who is entering
Jerusalem?
- Why is Jesus just?
- Is HE the only just?
- What is HE coming
to save us from?
- Is HE coming to judge or in peace?
- Are there any limits for HIS dominion?

Mark 11:8-11
And many spread their clothes on the road, and others
cut down leafy branches from the trees and spread
them on the road. Then those who went before and
those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’
Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that comes
in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” And
Jesus went into Jerusalem and into the temple. So when
He had looked around at all things, as the hour was
already late, He went out to Bethany with the twelve.

- Why did the people praise Jesus?
- Did they believe HE was the Messiah?
- What did they mean by the kingdom of David?
- Were they expecting a political or spiritual leader?

Acts 1:4-6
And being assembled together with them, He
commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but
to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He
said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly
baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with
the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Therefore,
when they had come together, they asked Him,
saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the
kingdom to Israel?”

- Who was Jesus speaking with?
His disciples
- Were they concerned about the spiritual?
- What was their desire?

Acts 1:7-9
And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times
or seasons which the Father has put in His own
authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy
Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses
to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the end of the earth.”

- What are we
expecting from God?
- Can we understand
Him in the flesh?
- Why do we need
divine power
to stand and be His
witnesses?

Luke 22:1-6
Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which
is called Passover. And the chief priests and the scribes
sought how they might kill Him, for they feared the
people. Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot,
who was numbered among the twelve. So he went his
way and conferred with the chief priests and captains,
how he might betray Him to them. And they were glad,
and agreed to give him money. So he promised and
sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the
absence of the multitude.

- What does the feast of the Passover represents?
- Why were the priests and scribes plotting against Jesus?

- How did Satan enter Judas? Can he enter anybody?
- Did Judas make a decision? What is sin?
- Was the betrayal for money?
- What was the attitude? Was he glad?
A wicked man accepts a bribe
behind the back
To pervert the ways of justice.
Proverbs 17:23

Luke 22:7-13
Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when
the Passover must be killed. And He sent Peter
and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover
for us, that we may eat.” So they said to Him,
“Where do You want us to prepare?” And He
said to them, “Behold, when you have entered
the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher
of water; follow him into the house which he
enters.

Luke 22:7-13
Then you shall say to the master of the house,
‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest
room where I may eat the Passover with My
disciples?”’ Then he will show you a large,
furnished upper room; there make ready.” So
they went and found it just as He had said to
them, and they prepared the Passover.

- Why did Jesus celebrate the Passover?
- Is he fulfilling the law by believing?
- How did He know where they were going to celebrate it?
- Why the disciples did not question Him?

- Were the disciples already used to Jesus
foretelling them what will happen?
- How does He know?
- Is Jesus God?

John 13:2-5
And supper being ended, the devil having already put
it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to
betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given
all things into His hands, and that He had come from
God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid
aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself.
After that, He poured water into a basin and began to
wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the
towel with which He was girded.

- What did Satan put in Judas heart?
- How did Jesus know?
- When did God give all
things into Jesus hands?
- What was the
King of Kings doing?
- Why did He wash
His disciples’ feet?
- Did He wash Judas feet too?

John 13:18-19
“I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom
I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be
fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up
his heel against Me.’ Now I tell you before it comes,
that when it does come to pass, you may believe
that I am He.

- What did Jesus know?
- What scripture was HE quoting?
- Was it hard for Jesus to confront His betrayer?
Even my own familiar
friend in whom I trusted,
Who ate my bread, Has
lifted up his heel against me.
Psalm 41:9

John 13:21-26
When Jesus had said these things, He was troubled
in spirit, and testified and said, “Most assuredly, I
say to you, one of you will betray Me.” Then the
disciples looked at one another, perplexed about
whom He spoke.

John 13:21-26
Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of His
disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore
motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He
spoke. Then, leaning back on Jesus’ breast, he said
to Him, “Lord, who is it?” Jesus answered, “It is he
to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have
dipped it.” And having dipped the bread, He gave it
to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

- Was Jesus troubled because someone
was delivering Him to the Pharisees?
- Why was He troubled?

John 13:1
Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus
knew that His hour had come that He should depart
from this world to the Father, having loved His own
who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

- Did Jesus love Judas?
- How can we love our enemies?
- Was Jesus worried for Himself or for Judas?

Matthew 26:22-25
And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and each of
them began to say to Him, “Lord, is it I?” He
answered and said, “He who dipped his hand with
Me in the dish will betray Me. The Son of Man
indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to
that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It
would have been good for that man if he had not
been born.” Then Judas, who was betraying Him,
answered and said, “Rabbi, is it I?” He said to him,
“You have said it.”

- Why did Judas say it?
- When did Satan enter Judas?

John 13:27-30
Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then
Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” But no
one at the table knew for what reason He said this to
him. For some thought, because Judas had the money
box, that Jesus had said to him, “Buy those things we
need for the feast,” or that he should give something
to the poor. Having received the piece of bread, he
then went out immediately. And it was night.

- Why did Judas take the piece of bread?
- Was he predestined?
- Did Judas decide by himself or Satan possessed him?
- Did Cain kill Abel or was it Satan?
- What was in Judas heart?

John 12:3-6
Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of
spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His
feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the
fragrance of the oil. But one of His disciples, Judas
Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said,
“Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three
hundred denarii and given to the poor?” This he
said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he
was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to
take what was put in it.

- Did Judas know that stealing is a sin?
- Was he listening to the voice of God in the small things?
- What happened when a big decision came his way?

- Was Jesus aware of Judas flaws?
- What about the other disciples?
- Why didn’t Jesus cast out Satan from Judas?

John 17:12
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in
Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept;
and none of them is lost except the son of perdition,
that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

- Did God incite Judas into betrayal?
- Did He know what was going to happen?
- Does God intervene in our decisions?
- Did Judas repent?

Matthew 27:1-10
When morning came, all the chief priests and elders
of the people plotted against Jesus to put Him to
death. And when they had bound Him, they led Him
away and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate the
governor. Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He
had been condemned, was remorseful and brought
back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests
and elders, saying, “I have sinned by betraying
innocent blood.”

Matthew 27:1-10
And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!”
Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the
temple and departed, and went and hanged
himself. But the chief priests took the silver pieces
and said, “It is not lawful to put them into the
treasury, because they are the price of blood.” And
they consulted together and bought with them the
potter’s field, to bury strangers in.

Matthew 27:1-10
Therefore that field has been called the Field of
Blood to this day. Then was fulfilled what was
spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “And they
took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him
who was priced, whom they of the children of Israel
priced, and gave them for the potter’s field, as the
LORD directed me.”

- What is the difference between repentance and remorse?
-Did Judas look for God or the Pharisees?
- Did Judas believe God?
- Why were the priests concerned about
the destiny of the blood money?
- Did they just not plot against an innocent man?

Matthew 27:15-18
Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to
releasing to the multitude one prisoner whom they
wished. And at that time they had a notorious
prisoner called Barabbas. Therefore, when they had
gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do
you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus
who is called Christ?” For he knew that they had
handed Him over because of envy.

- Was Pilate aware of the plot to kill Jesus?
- Were the priests and leaders confused with the second
coming of the Messiah?
- Did they truly believe that Jesus was a false prophet?

Matthew 27:62-66
On the next day, which followed the Day of
Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees
gathered together to Pilate, saying, “Sir, we
remember, while He was still alive, how that
deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise.’ Therefore
command that the tomb be made secure until the
third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal
Him away, and say to the people,

Matthew 27:62-66
‘He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception
will be worse than the first.” Pilate said to them,
“You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure
as you know how.” So they went and made the
tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the
guard.

- How did the priests
call Jesus?
- Can we be honestly
deceived?
- How could Messiah be
The Lion of Judah and
The Lamb of God at the
same time?

- Was not Israel expecting a Victorious King
who will deliver them from the oppressive
hand of the Roman Empire?
- Did they need a miracle to believe in Jesus?

- Was the resurrection of Jesus from the dead
enough evidence for them?
- What happened when Jesus resurrected?

Matthew 28:11-15
Now while they were going, behold, some of the
guard came into the city and reported to the chief
priests all the things that had happened. When they
had assembled with the elders and consulted
together, they gave a large sum of money to the
soldiers, saying, “Tell them, ‘His disciples came at
night and stole Him away while we slept.’ And if this
comes to the governor’s ears, we will appease him
and make you secure.” So they took the money and
did as they were instructed; and this saying is
commonly reported among the Jews until this day.

- Is the belief in God
and His Christ
a decision of the heart?
- What would have
happened if the governor
discovers that the body
was stolen under the
Roman Soldier’s guard?
They would have been put to death

- Does God know what is in our hearts?
- Can we hide anything from Him?

WHAT DID WE LEARN TODAY?
- We must be born of the spirit in order to understand God.
- Jesus is God and the Son of Man at the same time
and His purpose was to pay the debt of our sin.
- The Jews in Jerusalem were waiting for the Lion of Judah,
but they only got to see the Lamb of God.
- We need to be filled by the Spirit of God in order to
fulfill the purpose that He has for us.
- There is big difference between remorse and repentance.
- Belief in God is a decision of the heart.
