1. Software development methodology is extremely important in
developing robust applications
that meets the needs of clients. Methodologies help the software
development team build
information systems that solve business needs in a timely
manner. Review various software
development methodologies that are currently used today.
Where does database design fit into those methodologies? What
are some activities and deliverables of the database design
phase? How does database design affect the overall success of
the information system? Describe some ways to ensure the
database design phase is successful and meets the goals of the
information system.
2. This research topic will give you some insight into the
earliest work with what we now call SQL. Investigate the
evolution and development of the language that we now use to
communicate with almost all relational databases. The term
"English" may have contributed to our current pronunciation of
SQL as "See-Quel". What is the history of Structure English
Query Language and what is its relationship to SQL?
3. As ODBC continues to evolve as an open system standard, it
is important to know what has changed as SQL has evolved to
the current version. Your research should lead you to
understand why different vendors require separate ODBC
"drivers", and how the ODBC standard is evolving to
accommodate the needs of universal connectivity to data
sources.
Discuss the components of ODBC and its role in databases?
What are the goals of ODBC? Is ODBC support available for all
major DBMS vendors? Explain your answer.
4. Research the object features of the current SQL standard -
SQL 1999 (also known as SQL3)?
How does Oracle support objects in their DBMS? Explain the
object-relational features available in Oracle. What is the
impact of an object-relational database? What are some new
features in the next release of the SQL standards - SQL4?
5. Information systems must support the day-to-day business, as
well as the long term, strategic goals of the organization.
Organizations want solutions that will make them more
competitive, profitable, and support the decision making
process. Decision support systems and data warehouses aim to
provide these solutions to organizations. Research and explain
how SQL can be used in a data warehouse application. What
SQL features are available with Oracle 11g that can be used in a
data warehouse? What are possible issues pertaining to SQL in
implementing a data warehouse solution?

  • 1. 3 pages Research paper be sure to include 2 references Research Topic Options 1. Software development methodology is extremely important in developing robust applications that meets the needs of clients. Methodologies help the software development team build information systems that solve business needs in a timely manner. Review various software development methodologies that are currently used today. Where does database design fit into those methodologies? What are some activities and deliverables of the database design phase? How does database design affect the overall success of the information system? Describe some ways to ensure the database design phase is successful and meets the goals of the information system. 2. This research topic will give you some insight into the earliest work with what we now call SQL. Investigate the evolution and development of the language that we now use to communicate with almost all relational databases. The term "English" may have contributed to our current pronunciation of SQL as "See-Quel". What is the history of Structure English Query Language and what is its relationship to SQL? 3. As ODBC continues to evolve as an open system standard, it is important to know what has changed as SQL has evolved to the current version. Your research should lead you to understand why different vendors require separate ODBC "drivers", and how the ODBC standard is evolving to accommodate the needs of universal connectivity to data sources. Discuss the components of ODBC and its role in databases? What are the goals of ODBC? Is ODBC support available for all major DBMS vendors? Explain your answer. 4. Research the object features of the current SQL standard - SQL 1999 (also known as SQL3)?
  • 2. How does Oracle support objects in their DBMS? Explain the object-relational features available in Oracle. What is the impact of an object-relational database? What are some new features in the next release of the SQL standards - SQL4? 5. Information systems must support the day-to-day business, as well as the long term, strategic goals of the organization. Organizations want solutions that will make them more competitive, profitable, and support the decision making process. Decision support systems and data warehouses aim to provide these solutions to organizations. Research and explain how SQL can be used in a data warehouse application. What SQL features are available with Oracle 11g that can be used in a data warehouse? What are possible issues pertaining to SQL in implementing a data warehouse solution? 3 pages Research paper be sure to include 2 references Research Topic Options 1.
