The title sequence for Se7en uses unconventional camera techniques and editing to create tension and mystery. Extreme close-ups, low and high angles, and panning shots obscure details and leave the audience guessing. Fast jump cuts and morphing between shots maintain an unsettling pace. Dark, ambiguous lighting and eerie sounds complete an atmosphere that feels unsafe. Very few details are given about the plot or characters to preserve the obscure tone.
Using Tweets for Understanding Public Opinion During U.S. Primaries and Predi...Monica Powell
Abstract
Using social media for political analysis, especially during elections, has become popular in the past few years where many researchers and media now use social media to understand the public opinion and current trends. In this paper, we investigate methods for using Twitter to analyze public opinion and to predict U.S. Presidential Primary Election results. We analyzed over 13 million tweets from February 2016 to April 2016 during the primary elections, and we looked at tweets that mentioned either Hillary Clin- ton, Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. First, we use the methods of sentiment analysis, geospatial analysis, net- work analysis, and visualizations tools to examine public opinion on twitter. We then use the twitter data and analysis results to propose a prediction model for predicting primary election results. Our results highlight the feasibility of using social media to look at public opinion and predict election results.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. Micro Analysis
Camera
• There are extreme close ups; e.g. Of the hands sewing a book. This creates a raw intimate
feeling for the audience. It also creates tension, and slight fear as the person is kept a mystery.
• Extreme low and high angles – revel little as to what is going on, and confuse the audience,
and leaves them guessing. Also shows that nothing is as it appears.
• Panning shot at the end of the books – makes the story flow outwards away from the table
where the rest of the title sequence was set.
• The slow paced page turning shot makes the audience hold their breath in anticipation,
creating tension.
Editing
• There is a wide range of editing techniques used in this short title sequence; jump cuts quicken
the pace and make and create tension, fading one shot into the next creates a smooth
transition and a flow, morphing shots together creates a trippy vibe that's full of mystery.
• The complex editing style builds most of the tension, as well as creating a sense of paranoia in
the audience.
• The titles appear shaky and jerk around the frame of the shot. This adds to the mystic auro of
the sequence.
• The overall quick pace of the sequence doesn't’t give enough time for the audience to
decipher what's going on on screen, thus adding to the obscurity
• special effects : the carvings over the footage, dragging of footage, laying shots together
3. Micro Analysis
Mise-En-Scene
• Props: scissors, notebook, pen , sewing needle and thread, razor blade, knife, tweezers, human
hair, photo developing kit, gory/violent photos
• Location: kept a mystery. The movie could be set anywhere, doesn't’t establish location( breaks
a convention). The title sequence seemed to be set in a more private and intimate location,
such as a house or a lair.
• Lighting: dark and ambiguous. Only illuminating parts of the screen at a time. Flashes of red
lighting makes the atmosphere grow more violent.
• Lighting is also used to help transition the shots – by fading to black, or using a flash of light.
Sound
• Dramatic opening sound, that grabs the audience’s attention.
• Eerie background noises, that are hard to decipher, and sound more like ghosts of a sound.
• Sound effects include: door opening and squeaking, inhumanly screams, static
• Intense low music, with a deep base, playing at a fast pace. It speeds up and intensifies as the
sequence progresses.
• The soundscape is dramatic, and tense building. It made me feel uneasy and unsafe, like
something terrible was about to happen.
• The soundscape finishes with the same dramatic sound as at the start.
