3. ● Students in college are finding it to be
harder to get a job after college. We
are told that college will open doors
for us in careers, but the graduates are
realizing that that’s not true.
● Only thirty-five percent go into
their career after they’ve graduated
from college.
● But we as college students are unaware of
how our skills we were taught through
college work in the real world.

4. ● After college employers look at
what internship you have done
during college and even after.
Employers look at you GPA and you
reputation during college. But the
GPA is not the main thing that they
focus on, "when employers do hire
from college, the evidence suggests
that academic skills are not their

● Employers want us as colleges students to have prior work
experience in what they are offering to us.
● Although employers aren’t really
focused on good grades and
classes. Internship providers are
looking at those particular things.
● Those good grades are what
makes you more fit for the
internships.

culture. Once we have
entered college the
expectations change.
● College prepares us for the
future and allows us to see
how our jobs will expect us
to act.
● Academic standards are high
and we have to do all the work
that is required to reach those
standards.
● We have deadlines that we
must reach and there are no
reminders. We must keep up
with them ourselves.

6. Professional Management for Students
● Students following their careers will encounter professional
management.
Professional management is the practice of professional handling
consumers.
● Students engage in projects that prepares them for the real
world (Business n.d.).
College students seeking their careers will be introduced into the
work atmosphere. They are expected to experience real life
applications and consumers.

7. Professional Management
● Students are often guaranteed a job when they show professional management
applications.
The professional skills a student will need are: “Communication, Ability to Work Under
Pressure, Decision Making, Time Management, Self-motivation, Conflict Resolution,
Leadership, Adaptability” (30 Best n.d.).
● 76% of students will have had at least one internship leading them into their
career.
Internships are one of the best way to get students for the real world.

8. Social Media Impact On Student (Careers)
● Social media has changed career readiness on student.
With social media, students are able to start getting ready for
their careers as early as children. For example, there are
children who review toys on youtube ar eget paid real money
for it. Anybody can start an official job or be able to afford the
things in daily life with just social media.

9. Social Media
● According to Yale ,Office of Career Strategy, “Many companies, agencies, and
nonprofits offer social media internships” (Social Media n.d.).
● Social media is one way to build a 3rd-party resume.
It is hard for employers to know their new applicants on paper. Students can express their
true selves to their employers. This allows students who are following their career path to
already have one step forward into their lives.

The Big Question
Why did you choose the job that you want?
● Values are what is important to you and your beliefs, traits, or physical objects that you regard more
than others.
● Values are a huge factor in looking for a job opportunity during or after your college years.
● Most employers interviewing you for a job will often ask you why you want the job that you are applying
for.
○ What will you answer be?
● Over time, values will almost always change.
○ For example, college students are always looking for a job that makes the most money possible so
that they can pay off debts and get what they want NOW. Later in life, those same individuals
might value a job with more accomplishment or something with more meaning than just getting
paid.

● Now that we know what values are and why they are important, we
need to determine what your values are and if they set you up for
success.
● Monster.com illustrates a list of varieties that you should know
before applying for a job:
○ Variety or change
○ Helping others
○ Feeling respected
○ Taking risks
○ Traveling for work
○ Paycheck
○ Hours that you work
○ Location of workplace
○ Time spent with family and friends

scale of how

you, the highest
ratings are what you

your future career.

12. Networking
● Networking plays one of the biggest roles in finding the right job for
current college students or right after graduation.
● Networking is defined by businessdictionary.com as “creating a
group of acquaintances and associates and keeping it active through
regular communication for mutual benefit.”
● As you can see, networking is one of the best ways to nail the job
that you have wanting, or ultimately, finding the job you never
knew existed.
● The sole purpose for networking is to build relationships with other
groups or individual people to mutually bring ideas to the table so
that everyone can benefit more efficiently

● A company’s mission is their statement of why they’re in business. It’s there end goal
in helping customers and sets the tone for the working environment.
● For example, Walt Disney’s mission is “to be one of the world’s leading producers and
providers of entertainment and information. Using our portfolio of brands to
differentiate our content,services and consumer products, we seek to develop the
most creative,innovative and profitable entertainment experiences and related
products in the world”.
● Companies develop missions to secure employees and state their business.
● Giving employees an end goal was proven to make them more engaged in their work.
● Customers go to certain companies based off their mission because customers prefer
to go to a place with the same standards that they have and makes them more
comfortable to do business.

15. Why a Companies Mission Matters When Looking for a Career
● Finding a company with a mission you pertain to is important
when looking at potential jobs.
● You need to find the right mission that you agree with and want
to be apart of to help succeed in your carrier.
● If not, you won't have a drive to work hard and will be unhappy
or even uncomfortable which could lead to getting fired or
quitting.
● Being part of a company that makes you happy to work at
everyday is one of the most important parts of succeeding.

16. Workplace Climate: Clarity
● A manager should communicate clearly to the employees
about common goals and expectations.
● Managers should be upfront about responsibilities
● Lack of clarity can lead to an employee focus on low-value
tasks.
● Most employees produce less stress and better results if they
know exactly what they should be focused on and have a clear
set goal.

17. Workplace Climate: Commitment
● In order a have a commitment in a workplace that employee
must be proud to be apart of the organization.
● Connecting with people to there work emotionally and
intellectually is part of being committed in a workplace.
● A team that’s committed would bond over challenges and
accomplishments.
● And of course employees will learn from each others
mistakes.

● When a manager set goals for team, they make sure that the
standards are realistic.
● Employees sometimes have challenging tasks, but they must
managed to achieve them.
● If a team is not willing to stretch their abilities then the
business will suffer.
● A manager who accomplish balance standards can create
challenging and fun climate in a workplace.

● An employee, or teammate, doing
their tasks on time and how it

encourage others to do their work.
● Being trustworthy by getting work
done by promised time.

● Managers, or leaders, should acknowledge
when a member of their team is doing well.
● They should provide feedback in all
situations, good or bad.
● They should keep the feedback honest but
still constructive when criticising.

21. Workplace Climate: Teamwork
● This is when multiple members of a team
are working together on a common goal
● They should have meetings to discuss their
work towards the goal
● The member should be working together to
make sure the work is correct and agreed
upon by the entire group
