It described the growth of the museum's physical and digital collections, the increasing professionalization of cataloging and metadata practices, and more recent initiatives to share open data through APIs and third party platforms. The talk highlighted both challenges around overcoming data silos and opportunities to provide expanded access and new research services through an interoperable, networked approach to the museum's collection data.
The Rijksmuseum Research Library faces challenges in adapting to new research methods and technologies while maintaining its historical role supporting the museum's collections. As the library professionalized in the 20th century, it focused on cataloging and automating its collections. It now aims to overcome organizational "silos," provide interdisciplinary access, and develop new digital services through an open, networked approach as part of the museum's Research Services department.

Wilhelm Lagercrantz, Digital Strategy / Chief Digital Officer, National Historical Museums Sweden
National Historical Museums is a government agency which includes the Swedish History Museum and the Royal Coin Cabinet plus the museum operations at Tumba Papermill Museum. The agency also performs archaeology services.
The coin collection can trace its roots back to 1572 when Rasmus Ludvigsson, a secretary to the King Johan III started a collection of old Swedish coins.
From the start, there has always been a need to somehow keep track of the collection. In the early days using quill pen and paper, then gradually moving into more modern technology.
In the 1990s parts of the collection information became digital. Today the Swedish History Museum and the Royal Coin Cabinet use different solutions for the collections management and are ready to take the next step by moving in to Adlib. Our expectations are to enhance our work processes even more and reach out globally.

After Phillipps' death, the collection was reorganized and portions were sold off over the subsequent decades to libraries and at auction. The document outlines the project to digitally represent the provenance of manuscripts in the collection using linked data approaches and visualize their transmission over time and between collectors.

Linked Open Data Publications through Wikidata & Persistent Identification...PACKED vzw
In order for museums to truly reap the benefits of publishing their collections online in a sustainable way, PACKED vzw presents the results of its Linked open data project as a best practice guide for the Flemish heritage sector.
Museums in Flanders are contributing their artwork data to Wikidata to make it available to a broader audience. The data, including persistent identifiers and links to external authorities, was uploaded under a CC0 license. This provides benefits like low costs, increased reach through Wikipedia, and placing the works in a wider context. Museums can now get back an RDF export of the data and see their works integrated in the linked open data cloud. Next steps include adding more detail to artist biographies and correcting any errors or duplicates in the data.

Creating a Digital Collection: The experience of the Wien MuseumIstvan Szecsey
The Wien Museum has a wide range of collections from the history of Vienna including archaeology, art, fashion, and culture. Over the past four years, museum staff inventoried over 750,000 objects across five different databases. They are now working to consolidate the data into a single collection management system called MuseumPlus. This will allow them to correct errors, eliminate redundant information, and integrate additional data from ongoing archaeological analyses in Vienna. The photographic documentation of objects is an ongoing process.

The museum aims to educate people about Chinese history and culture through its vast and diverse collection. It plays an important role in preserving cultural heritage and helping people understand their identity.

Museum x.0: Digital Future or Firewood Rental?Thomas Tunsch
Museum objects have been incompletely digitized in terms of quantity so far. The quality of digitization also shows shortcomings. In addition to the standardized and structured collection of extrinsic data, the complete collection of intrinsic data is not only a special challenge but also an indispensable necessity for modeling digital twins.
So far, Digitalization is mainly limited to the simple representation of analog objects with the help of digital media. Communication structures and methods of Web 2.0 or the semantic web are lacking, thus a comprehensive, standardized and complex structured digital information space for museum objects is not yet possible.
The digital information space is a prerequisite for the creation of digital twins. The ideational value of the objects as a basis of cultural heritage can be found in the long-term available data and their use. Therefore, the power of disposal and interpretative authority over the originals must be replaced by collaborative structures and the collective use of resources in order to guarantee the future of the museum in the information space.
