Microsoft released several versions of Windows from 1981 to 2012 to transition from MS-DOS to a graphical user interface. Some key versions included Windows 1.0 (1985), Windows 95 (1995) which introduced Plug and Play installation, Windows XP (2001) which was widely used, and Windows 7 (2009) which improved on Vista.
