                     Internet & Web Browsers

1. HTML                   Hyper text mark up language. Used to tag the elements
                          of a hyper text document
2. Address Bar            The space on a web browser screen in witch the site
                          address is displayed
3. Scroll Bar             A widget used in graphical user interfaces and used to
                          show and control witch portion of the document is
                          visible in the window
4. Menu Bar               A permanently displayed menu horizontally across the
                          window
5. Auto complete          A software feature that automatically fills in the rest of
                          the web site address or e-mail address based on
                          previously used computers
6. E-Mail                 A system for sending messages to one individual to
                          another
7. Web Browser            Software program that you use to retrieve documents
                          from the world wide web and display them in readable
                          format
8. Search Engine          A program that helps you locate information on the
                          computer
9. Access Indicator       A small picture in the upper right corner of the
                          browser; when animated, it means your browser is
                          accessing data from a remote computer.
10. Wildcard Search       It is a symbol
11. TCP/IP                A communication protocol for networks
12. Boolean Search        A query using the Boolean operators, AND, OR,
                          and NOT, and parentheses to construct a complex
                          condition from simpler criteria.
13. Go Button             Connects you to address displayed in the Address bar.
                          Document Window displays the active Web Page
14. Multimedia            The combined use of several media, as sound and full-
                          motion video in computer applications.
15. Domain Name           used as an Internet address to identify the location of
                          particular Web pages
16. Mailing List          a list of addresses to which mail, esp. advertisements,
                          can be sent
17. Browser Extensions    Built into browser tools and resources to make the
                          browsing experience more efficient

19. Buddy List                 You specify your list of friends and even tell when they
                               are online.
20. Autocorrect                an automatic feature in software that corrects common

                               addresses on the Internet.
22. ARPANET                    A computer system that could still communicate and
                               work with anyone even in a disaster
24. ISP                        Internet service provider: a company that offers access
                               to the Internet and to e-mail, usually for a monthly fee.
24. Inbox & Outbox             An electronic folder for incoming e-mails or text
                               messages-inbox. An electronic folder for outgoing e-
                               mails or text messages-outbox.
