                     Internet & Web Browsers

1. HTML                   A series of tags that are integrated into text documents
                          and describes how the text should be formatted when a
                          Web browser displays it on the screen.
2. Address Bar            Contains the URL or address of the active Web page.
                          Also where you type the location for the Web page you
                          want to visit.

3. Scoll Bar              Vertical and horizontal scroll bars; lets you scroll vertically and
                          horizontally if the Web page is too long or too wide to fit within
                          one screen
4. Menu Bar               • A horizontal menu that appears on top of a window.
                          • Provides a selection of options related to the Web page.


5. Autocomplete           It’s a feature provided by many web browsers, e-mail
                          programs, source code editors, database query tools,
                          word processors
6. E-Mail                 You have a message, an address, & a carrier that figures
                          out how to get it from one location to another.
                          2. Email is used to stay in touch with family and friends,
                          conduct business, and send attachments such as text &
                          image files.

7. Web Browser            Software program that you use to retrieve
                          documents from the World Wide Web & display
                          them in a readable format.
8. Search Engine          A tool that lets you find Web pages that match a
                          particular word or phrase.
                          Examples of search engines

9. Access Indicator       A small picture in the upper right corner of the browser; when
                          animated, it means your browser is accessing data from a remote
                          computer.
10. Wildcard Search       The * symbol, called an asterisk, is considered a wildcard
                          character.
                          Used if you don’t know the spelling of a word
                          • Example: N*Ryan to search for Nolan Ryan
                          Used to search plurals or variations of words.

11. TCP/IP                transmission control protocol/internet protocol: a set of
                          protocols (including TCP) developed for the internet in
                          the 1970s
12. Boolean Search        Boolean logic consists of Logical Operators
                          •   AND
                          •   NOT
•   OR

13. Go Button                  Connects you to address displayed in the Address bar.
                               Document Window displays the active Web Page
14. Multimedia                 transmission that combine media of communication (text
                               and graphics and sound etc.)
15. Domain Name                strings of letters and numbers (separated by periods) that
                               are used to name organizations and computers and
                               addresses on the internet;
16. Mailing List               A group of people with a shared interest.
                               Their email addresses are collected into a group, and this
                               group is identified by a single name.
                               When a message is sent to the group, everyone on the list
                               receives that message.

                               browsing experience
                               more efficient

                               a software function commonly found in word processors
                               such as Microsoft Word
