This presentation will describe how early childhood home visiting programs can support the reduction of family risk factors and the strengthening of protective factors to reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect.

7. Child Abuse Definitions
Child abuse or child ill treatment can be :
EMOTIONAL- acts of bullying or exclusion by the parents or guardians that could
cause a child to have serious behavioral, emotional, or mental disorders.
PHYSICAL- is physical injury imposing upon the child with cruel and/or spiteful
intent.
SEXUAL- sexual abuse can include fondling, intercourse, rape, exploitation, and
sex trafficking.
8. Child Abuse Facts
Survivors of child abuse tend to have more issues with
relationships and emotional problems.
● Victims of child abuse usually endure much stress in reaction of
their abuse. Depending on the type of abuse they had and their
mental and physical age, their reaction varies.
● About 75% of children suffering from child abuse are experiencing
neglect.
● Children worldwide are being abused which affects their
education.
● Sexual abuse can make kids more knowledgeable about sex than
they should be at their age, causing the children to act more sexual
around other kids.
● Some children can get sexually transmitted disease (s.t.d) through
abusive sex.
