Teenage pregnancy is defined as a pregnancy in a woman under 20 years old. It can be caused by early marriage in some cultures where it is seen as proof of fertility. In other societies, lack of education about contraception and pressure to have sex can lead to unintended teenage pregnancy. While most teenage pregnancies in developed nations are unplanned, some teens deliberately get pregnant. One way to address this issue is through a public awareness campaign that informs teens of the responsibilities of pregnancy without telling them to abstain from sex, encouraging them to think about what they really want for their future.

Teenage pregnancy is formally defined as a pregnancy in a young woman who will not reach her 20th birthday before the expected birth, regardless of whether the woman is married or is legally an adult (age 14 to 21, depending on the country). In everyday speech, the speaker is usually referring to unmarried minors who become pregnant unintentionally.

3. CAUSES OF TEENAGE PREGNANCYIn some societies, early marriage and traditional gender roles are important factors in the rate of teenage pregnancy. For example, in some sub-Saharan African countries, early pregnancy is often seen as a blessing because it is proof of the young woman's fertility. In the Indian subcontinent, early marriage and pregnancy is more common in traditional rural communities compared to the rate in cities.
