six months after they left the program.”“It makes sense that finance and
money is in focus. However, there’s
a lot more that’s covered, like positive
thinking – how can I take that stop
sign down that’s in front of me?
How can I plan for the future?
What do I do, maybe on a regular
basis, that slows me down? What
can I change in my environment to
improve myself?
All those kinds of things definitely
have a positive impact on your work
and therefore for your employer.”

“It’s not about financial planning,
it’s about the attitude you have towards
money and the effect and the influence
it has on you. It’s made me feel a lot
more empowered about money.”

5. HR LEADERS IDENTIFY
THEIR EMPLOYEES’ NEEDS
At the 2015 National Australian Human Resources Institute Convention and
Exhibition, the Start Counting team surveyed more than 200 HR leaders
about what they want to be known for professionally and which parts of
their female workforce need extra focus.
START COUNTING ADDS VALUE FOR ALL WOMEN IN YOUR WORKFORCE
HR leaders tell us that the Start Counting program is adding value as a stand-alone solution or to strengthen
existing human resource frameworks including:
• TOP TALENT AND EMERGING LEADERS: Invest
in and foster the personal and professional goals of
top talent and emerging leaders.
• RETURN-TO-WORK MOTHERS: Empower and
re-establish confidence for return-to-work mothers.
• GRADUATES: Build loyal and confident graduates
within a competitive and mobile workforce.
• DIVERSITY AGENDAS: Demonstrate that you’re a
progressive organisation with a focus on diversity
and gender equity.
• REWARDS AND EMPLOYEE BENEFITS: Encourage
personal and professional growth through reward
and recognition programs and employee benefits.
‘DEVELOPING INITIATIVES
THAT STRENGTHEN EMPLOYEE
ENGAGEMENT, BUILDING A
CULTURE OF EMPOWERMENT,
OPPORTUNITIES AND GROWTH.’
‘EMPOWERING PEOPLE
TO PERFORM AT
THEIR BEST AND AS A
THOUGHT LEADER.’
‘MAKING A PATHWAY
FOR MORE FEMALES INTO
ROLES OF LEADERSHIP
AND INFLUENCE.’
HR LEADERS IN AUSTRALIA TOLD US
THEY WANT TO BE KNOWN FOR:
Counting women from your organisation into Start Counting will support these goals and more.
START COUNTING IS CREATING
POSITIVE CHANGE AND
MEASURABLE OUTCOMES:
The one-day commitment for your employees is
made up of two half-day workshops held away from
the office during business hours, with one week
between each workshop.
Start Counting’s industry-leading behaviour change
program is tracked in an 18-month longitudinal
survey. Participants are surveyed immediately before
the program, immediately after, and at three and
six-month intervals.
PARTICIPANT MINDSET BEFORE
START COUNTING4
:
• Participants felt their finances were out of control,
and they were ill-equipped to deal with unexpected
life circumstances.
• 59% of participants were unclear or unsure about
where they wanted to head in life.
• A large majority (81%) of participants felt
unprepared or unsure about their ability to manage
money through any life changes that might arise –
such as redundancy, job changes, children, divorce
or retirement.
