1. DIRECTOR (2011 – 2013): Department of Educational
Materials Development and Resource Centre at Malawi
Institute of Education.
Responsibilities:
• Overseeing all MIE editorial and design of Instructional
materials, audio-visual materials produced by officers and
projects at Malawi Institute of Education, printing of
instructional materials and library services.
• Curriculum designing for primary, secondary, teacher
training colleges and any other educational institutions.
• Coordinating all activities of the primary school national
textbook programme (PCAR) and coordinating the review
process of the primary school textbooks.
• Designing in-service programmes for interventions in
various curricular areas such as Critical Thinking, Child-
Friendly Schools, literacy e.g. Read Malawi literacy
programme.
• Conducting educational research in various educational
activities to identify areas requiring interventions and to
inform the review of the primary school textbooks.

2. COORDINATOR: Primary School Curriculum and
Assessment Reform (PCAR) 2003 – 2013.
Responsibilities:
• Planning preparing budgeting of quarterly activities and
presenting them to the National Steering committee chaired
by the Secretary for Education.
• drawing up and seeking approval of the quarterly activity
budget.
• planning and preparing meetings and workshops to develop
instructional materials.
• managing the roll out of the activities according to the
agreed time frames and estimated expenditure
• providing a written progress report to the National
Committee every quarter
• ensuring that the communication strategy operates
effectively through regular meetings with stakeholder groups
and production of a PCAR Newsletter
• monitoring and evaluating the PCAR activities in order to
guide the ongoing process
• ensuring that the professional capacity building as agreed in
the action plan is being carried out.
2013 – 14 • Studied for a diploma with University of Lund in Child
Rights classroom and school development.
2012 • Promoted to Chief Curriculum Specialist which is the
highest professional position one can become at Malawi
Institute of Education.
• Initiated and coordinated activities of Critical Thinking
aiming at certifying trainers from all public and private
primary Teacher Training Colleges in Malawi, Domasi
College and Chancellor College towards certification by
Critical Thinking International Consortium, with support
from Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA).
• Conducted training on Child-Friendly Schools for lecturers
from some teacher training colleges using the training
manual on CFS which we developed.
• Monitored activities of Read Malawi in the implemented
schools in Malawi
• Taught Music on part-time basis at Chancellor college
(University of Malawi) and Domasi College of Education.
• Carried a consultancy with members of the research team of
Malawi Institute of Education funded by UNESCO Harare
on behalf of Malawi government to find ways of
mainstreaming Child-Friendly Schools concept in Teacher
Training Colleges.

teachers in some districts on areas they were finding
difficult.
• Made presentations on Malawi’s OBE implementation

2011 • Carried out consultancy for 20 days to review CFS
programme in Malawi as a process towards mainstreaming
CFS in TTCs, and develop a CFS training manual for use in
teacher training colleges.
• Developed a training module for Malawian teachers on Read
Malawi Instructional literacy model and trained teachers,
headteachers, Primary Education Advisors and Teacher
training College lecturers on Read Malawi instructional
model using the modules developed.
• Trained teachers in preparation for roll out of Read Malawi.

developed 182 story books as supplementary readers for
Malawian school children of Standards 1, 2 and 3 to
supplement the national school curriculum, and their
teachers guides and other resource materials like posters,
alphabet books and overview guide on Read Malawi.

promoting and enhancing the teaching of Music subject in

conference held in Kenya in July, 2003 where I affiliated as a
member of the group.
• Conducted Music In-set for Primary Education Adviser and
headteachers from Ntchisi, Thyolo and Nsanje under the
sponsorship of JICA as part of decentralisation programme.
2002
• Conducted Consultancy for the Malawi Primary Curriculum
& Assessment Reform (PCAR) as Team Leader for the
Literature Review on curriculum reforms in Some African
countries. This involved leading a group of six people to do
the literature review, organise and compile a final report for
presentation to the Principal Secretary for Education.
2001 • Conducted Research on Girls Abuses in Malawian Schools,
a DfID funded research programme for Ghana, Zimbabwe
and Malawi and Conducted by CERT in conjunction Malawi
Institute of Education.
• Conducted a baseline study on Guidance and Counselling
for primary schools in Malawi for gender equity, funded by
USAID.
2000 • Taught Music as Part-time at the University of Malawi -
Chancellor College students for two Semesters.

2003 - 2014 Shallow wells project coordinator
• Chaired and coordinated a shallow wells Jeanes CCAP
church project supported by First Presbyterian Church of
Urbana, USA.
• Constructed over 700 shallow wells to provide clean and
safe water to villagers in Zomba, Machinga and some
extended work in Dowa and Mulanje.

2013 Child-rights, classroom and school management
• Initiated the construction of rumps at Domasi
Demonstration primary school to allow learners with
mobility problems to access classrooms without problems.
The project was done through collaboration of teachers and
PTA plus community leaders.
• Initiated the construction of rubbish dumping pits at
Malemia primary school, Domasi, Zomba to improve
sanitation and safety of learners. This was done through a
collaboration of teachers and community members.
