Despite a moving goal line and continuing accelerated growth, North Texas has made incredible strides toward meeting federal clean air standards. In the next Topic: North Texas webinar presented by Verizon, air quality attorney Howard Gilberg with Guida, Slavich & Flores, P.C. will share how businesses lead the field in North Texas air quality and what is on the horizon from both the state and federal governments.
Topic: North Texas | Ozone in North Texas: Opportunities for ImprovementNorth Texas Commission
Kicking off the Topic: North Texas webinar series for June, Chris Klaus of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) discussed the state of North Texas air quality and what can be anticipated for 2015. Also, companies and organizations were presented with opportunities to participate in air quality efforts including the upcoming Clean Air Action Day on June 26.
The Dallas-Fort Worth region has been working to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s ozone standards since the early 1990’s. While air quality has improved, federal standards continue to get tougher and the region still faces many challenges. In order to continue making progress toward new ozone standards, leadership from the business community will continue to be essential to air quality improvements. The presentation will cover ideas that could be incorporated into daily business operations.
Chris Klaus has been on staff in the Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Dallas-Fort Worth area, since July 1994. He is a Senior Program Manager managing the department’s Air Quality Planning and Operations activities, which respond to federal air quality requirements and work towards reaching attainment of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.
Chris received his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1994, and his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2003.

China has been tracking progress toward its non-BAU mitigation targets, including a carbon intensity target. Carbon intensity is measured as CO2 emissions per unit of GDP. China reported a 38.6% reduction in carbon intensity from 2005 levels by 2015 and a 21.7% reduction from 2010 levels. China has also made progress on targets for non-fossil fuel energy and forestry. However, tracking progress faces barriers such as a lack of coordination between government bureaus and unclear methodologies and data scopes. Developing countries need flexibility in how and how often they track progress on non-BAU targets during the NDC cycle but should report information at the end of each cycle.

This document discusses converting biogas from organic waste digesters into compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle fuel. It notes that biogas to CNG provides opportunities for smaller facilities not previously seen as financially viable. A BioCNG system is described that can economically produce biogas-based CNG at small scales. CNG has significant cost savings over gasoline and diesel, and projects in various locations that have successfully converted fleets to run on biogas-produced CNG are highlighted.
This document summarizes various tools available from Clean Cities to help save money, reduce petroleum use, and lower emissions. This document summarizes a presentation on the effects of transportation emissions on air quality in Southeastern Wisconsin. It discusses how combustion of fuels like gasoline and diesel produces particles and gases that can lead to ground-level ozone formation through reactions with nitrogen oxides and other compounds. Areas that exceed ozone limits are designated as "nonattainment zones" and required to take measures to reduce emissions. The document also briefly discusses climate change and the need to transition away from fossil fuels to cleaner energy sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Jefferson County has been using propane to fuel its vehicles for over 30 years, saving $120,000 per year in fuel costs. Propane costs less than $1 per gallon due to a 50 cent per gallon federal rebate. Vehicles that travel an average of 85,000 miles per year see payback on the $7,000-$8,500 propane system conversion cost within 8-10 months. While the county's propane program started in a makeshift way, technology improvements have made propane systems more reliable and easier to use.

This document provides an overview of wound healing, its functions, stages, mechanisms, factors affecting it, and complications.
A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.
