Iteration and co-creation connect the broad field of service designSatu Miettinen
Service design is a method for developing services and service businesses. The role of the service designer is to acquire user knowledge through various tools and visualize the service experience with social skills, empathy, creativity, and visual thinking. Service design uses design thinking and coordination to create service concepts and innovate new service opportunities. The service design process involves understanding user and business needs, observing and profiling users to create empathy, developing ideas through prototyping, and implementing and improving services through participation.
Service design supports manufacturing servitization by:
1. Using user-centered techniques to better understand customers and value networks.
2. Representing service systems and customer journeys to visualize how value is co-created.
3. Creating value propositions centered on customer experiences rather than technologies.
While companies saw benefits, challenges included unfamiliar service design lexicon and difficulty accessing customer insights for B2B. Further research through implementing concepts is needed to fully study service design's impact on servitization.

Usman Wajid: Service-based Application Development by Ordinary End Users and ...ServiceWave 2010
The document summarizes the findings of focus groups conducted with ordinary end users and IT professionals regarding their perceptions of service-based application development. The focus groups aimed to understand users' mental models of software services and gauge the likelihood of non-technical end users composing applications from available services. Key findings included higher experience levels with development among IT professionals; interest but also risks like security and technical difficulties perceived by both groups; and recommendations to promote, simplify, guide and secure service composition to encourage uptake by ordinary end users.
This article proposes applying the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) to systematically design new services. Traditionally, service design relies on inspiration and past experience, limiting novel ideas. The authors develop a TRIZ-based approach with three stages: 1) problem definition translates the problem into TRIZ language, 2) contradiction analysis structures the problem and employs TRIZ tools to eliminate contradictions, and 3) solution evaluation assesses ideas against an ideal final result. Through two case studies, the approach is verified to overcome limitations and generate creative service solutions.
Interior in Korea since 2014 (so 4 years now). Every year quite a number of projects all over the country are selected (=funded) and carried out under this grand-project; for instance, in this year 50 selected projects are on-going now. As for me, I was one of the service designers of the selected projects in 2015. This year I work as an advisory committee member for the whole project.
This paper demonstrates that Leadership - and Human Resource Management literature is moving towards a Service Science perspective in which value creation unfolds out of action situations embedded in polycentric systems interconnected by value propositions (Boxall & Purcell, 2016; Hartmann, Wieland, & Vargo, 2018; Ostrom, 1990). To contribute to this grounding, the authors draw on the perspectives of IAD-framework, Service Science and Service-Dominant Logic to provide further theoretical foundation for leadership (Kiser & Ostrom, 1982; J. Spohrer, Maglio, Bailey, & Gruhl, 2007; Stephen L. Vargo & Lusch, 2004). The purpose of this conceptual paper is to derive implications for the foundation, design and output of leadership by theory synthesis.
This document outlines a service design project conducted at Brightwater Oats Street, an acquired brain injury rehabilitation facility. The project used co-creation workshops involving staff and clients to map the client journey, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop a service blueprint. Participants engaged in activities like mind mapping, journey mapping, and testing a prototype blueprint. The outcome was a finalized blueprint and set of recommendations to enhance the client experience through better information sharing and increased involvement of all stakeholders.
This document contains a conference presentation proposal on the topic of service-dominant logic. It includes an introduction that defines service-dominant logic and provides a video example. The proposal then discusses how social media is well-suited for service-dominant logic research and proposes a measurement system. Next, it discusses how various industries like automotive manufacturing could benefit from shifting to a service-dominant logic approach. The proposal concludes with a call for more research on service-dominant logic applications and is followed by a references section citing relevant literature.
Yuan Ze University - Service Design Basics, 12/6/2012Stephen Kwan
The document discusses service design from a modeling perspective that incorporates service thinking, system thinking, design thinking, and business thinking to provide an integrated approach across disciplines in the service design process. It outlines key concepts in service science, service systems, value co-creation, design thinking, and business thinking to demonstrate how an integrated modeling approach can effectively manage information and knowledge from design to engineering of service systems.
Prioritization of voice of customers by using kano questionnaire and data (1)IAEME Publication
This document summarizes a research paper that aims to prioritize customers' needs and identify the most important factors for an automobile service center. The researchers designed Kano questionnaires to collect data on customers' perceptions of 22 service quality items. They then used Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to analyze the data and determine target values for improving weaker areas. DEA allows comparison of multiple inputs and outputs across similar organizations to evaluate their relative efficiency. The researchers applied this approach to prioritize the "voice of the customer" factors and help the service center optimize its performance.

This document summarizes a study on the impact of servicescape on customer satisfaction in the banking industry. The study examined how the tangible physical surroundings that customers interact with, including ambient conditions, space/function, and signs/symbols/artifacts, impact customer satisfaction. A survey was conducted of 150 banking customers using a questionnaire. The results showed a statistically significant correlation between servicescape and customer satisfaction. The regression analysis also indicated that servicescape positively impacts customer satisfaction. The study concludes that banks should focus on effective design of servicescape elements to improve customer satisfaction.
This document summarizes a panel discussion on service design challenges and future research. The panel discussed:
1. Research approaches to integrate business and human-centered service systems, including required skills and a starting point.
2. Challenges in service design theory and business models, the relationship between good and bad design.
3. The future development of service design, touching on increasing knowledge through theory and practice, education, and platforms.
4. The connection between service design and IT research areas.
The document discusses principles of organic planning and service-oriented architecture (SOA). It argues that systems should be designed as a continuous fabric or web of interoperating services. Each new service or project should contribute positively to the overall system and be designed at multiple scales - upwards towards larger services, sideways with related services, and downwards by decomposing into smaller services. This organic approach allows order and coherence to emerge from distributed activity without a central authority, through SOA governance.
This document discusses service system design and innovation. It begins with an introduction to service systems and key concepts in service science. It then covers the history of design, noting its expansion from industrial products to include services and service systems. Various viewpoints for analyzing service systems are presented, including different levels (micro, meso, macro), types of interactions and value sharing conditions. Finally, expanded research areas for service system design are discussed, such as component business modeling, quality analysis of services, and productivity tools and metrics.
