Migration of TV Broadcast services to digitalBSP Media Group
This document discusses key considerations for the migration from analog to digital TV broadcasting in South Africa, including:
1) Implementing digital broadcasting will require network rollout, distribution of set-top boxes, and consumer education campaigns.
2) Compelling content that attracts viewers is essential to encourage consumers to adopt digital TV and switch from analog.
3) Careful implementation planning is needed across many areas like coverage, receiver installation support, availability of subsidies, and ensuring quality content offerings on digital platforms.
The wireframes present a proposed mobile TV application layout. The concepts are designed for users with mobile phones and internet connectivity. The main objectives are to let users view TV in a simple way with only 2-3 clicks, and provide an interactive and guided experience. The wireframes show a home screen with categories to browse channels and programs. Users can see the schedule, popular shows and categories. Selecting a program displays details like name, image and options to favorite or view.
Harmonized Security for Multi-network Video ServicesVerimatrix
Verimatrix provides revenue security solutions for multi-network video services across devices. It has over 590 operator customers in over 90 countries protecting over $5 billion in revenue. As video consumption expands across networks and devices, Verimatrix offers an integrated solution with a single security authority to harmonize protection for linear, on-demand and over-the-top services on any screen.
The document makes the case for adopting IP surveillance systems over analog systems. It argues that IP systems provide better image quality, sharing ability, scalability, integratability with other systems, support for video analytics, improved operator efficiency, and lower total cost of ownership. IP systems also allow for future growth and integration as technology advances. The cost analysis shows IP systems have a lower total cost beyond around 32 cameras.
The document introduces CORA, a Common Reference Architecture developed to help design and deliver integrated IT solutions. CORA is founded on existing models, standards, and vendor reference architectures. It provides a framework to rationalize complex IT landscapes and assess new technologies like cloud computing. CORA can be used to decompose packaged solutions, harmonize heterogeneous systems, and optimize solution design in a hybrid, cross-technology environment. Examples show how CORA can be applied to assess a cloud provider's offering or the SAP technology stack.
GlobalInvacom adds terrestrial TV (DTT) signals to its fibre optic distribution system using new optical-to-RF converters. Testing showed the GTU converters transmitted DTT signals with nearly no degradation in signal quality over fibre. Both the QUAD GTU and QUATRO GTU performed excellently, maintaining high signal power and quality even when transmitting satellite and terrestrial signals simultaneously over long distances.

Why would broadcasters transport their real time professional video over ip b...Marie Josée (MJ) Drouin
The document discusses why broadcasters may want to transport real-time professional video over IP. It suggests that the cost models of different video transport technologies like TDM, ATM, satellite and real-time IP are similar. It also argues that video IP technologies are now available and some broadcasters are already using IP networks for programming, schedules and live or taped signals. Broadcasters may increasingly adopt IP transport for benefits like content hosting, sharing programming between sites, and file transfers as tapes become obsolete and IP is the standard computer language. Specialty channels and centralized broadcasters are early adopters of video over IP.

160-Gb-s Silicon All-Optical Packet Switch for Buffer-less Optical Burst Swit...University of Technology
A 160-Gb/s silicon-based all-optical packet switch is demonstrated for bufferless optical burst switching. One of four 160-Gb/s packets is switched using cross-phase modulation in a silicon nanowire, with error-free performance achieved. The packet switch could eliminate the need for optical buffering in small-scale networks like board-to-board interconnects using optical burst switching protocols. Experimental results show one of four 160-Gb/s packets is switched out of the silicon nanowire with error-free performance.

SSD Aware Scan Operation Optimization in PostGreSQL DatabaseSupun Nakandala
This document summarizes a study on optimizing scan operations in PostgreSQL for SSD storage. It hypothesizes that index scans may outperform other scan methods on SSDs due to near-equal random and sequential access times. The methodology tests scan performance on a SSD-equipped system using indexes versus bitmap index scans and heap scans. Results show index scans improve performance by 29-44% for selective queries when sufficient memory holds the table. The optimization only benefits databases fitting entirely in memory.

Pacific Quay has a core network with separately routed domains for users, television playout, radio production, post production, and a digital library. The fully converged network uses common hardware and protects core broadcast functions. It has a high bandwidth 40Gbps core with edge access switches connecting 22 hub rooms. Integration of different file formats, codecs, audio formats, metadata, and protocols between real-time and non-real-time systems presents challenges that require mapping schemas and determining if coupling is direct or loose.
