5. Why is this visual so important?
Although the
earth has many
water resources,
only the smallest
sphere show the
part of the
water supply
available for
human use.
7. “No man is an island.”
- John Donne
In relation to water
resources, what do
you think he meant by
by this?
8. Typical Home Water Use in
Pennsylvania
• Sort your use cards
from highest amount
of water used to
lowest.
• On a piece of paper,
write what percent of
water usage (out of
100%) you think each
activity uses.

• Toilet 29%
• Washer (Laundry) 22%
• Shower 18%
• Faucets 16%
• Outside 7%
• Bath 3%
• Dish washer 3%
9. Moving Water
• Water is always on the move, traveling
in a never-ending journey between the
earth and atmosphere. This is called

Water Cycle
Hydrologic Cycle
All of the water in the world’s water
resources are shared through this cycle
11. Let’s see…
• Can you name the parts of a
water cycle?
• Where does the water cycle take
place?
• Do you have any questions about
the water cycle?
• What do we have in common with
dinosaurs?
12. Water Cycle Simulation
• Let’s see what life
is like for a drop
of water on the
planet earth.
• Do all droplets of
water follow the
same path?
13. Directions
• Go to the station that your teacher sends you to.
• Everyone takes a marker from the bowl to track
where they have started.
• Each person rolls the die and reads the directions of
where to go next aloud to the group.
• When the teacher rings the bell, move to your next
station (Don’t forget to take your markers).
• Be sure to listen to all of the places that droplets can
go after they leave your current station.
14.
15. Reflect and Discuss….
o Where does the water cycle take place?
o Did you learn about any other parts of the water cycle?
o Where did the water supply seem to spend the most time?
Why do you think that this is so?
o Do all water droplets follow the same path through the
cycle?
o What “powers” the water cycle? Without it the water cycle
would just “sit”.
21. Think back to our discussion of dinosaurs. How did the
water cycle help provide a clean water source for plants
and animals millions of years ago?
Water moves above and below the ground. What did we
learn about salt and the water cycle? How does it move?
Where does it stay?
