  2. TEACHER: We reviewed that the word organ is a group of tissues formed to a distinct structure that performs a specialized taskActivity: student will write down two organs found in the human body and share with their neighbor and compareSWBAT: compare organs and their functions to the human body SWBAT: decide if humans have temporary organs like a chicken embryo
  3. TEACHER: In our embryology lesson with Mrs. Ketterer, we learned that a chicken embryo has temporary organs –embryonic membranes that it uses only for 21 days during development These are “external” organs. What does the word “external” mean?SWBAT: define external: “Outside”TEACHER: Please take out your “Temporary Organs” handout sheet that your received from Mrs. Ketterer. We will review temporary organs and parts of the egg. Remember, these parts and organs ore external and temporary-never a part of the internal body system of the embryo. After day 21, the chick will never use these organs or parts of the egg. Temporary -not permanent!TEACHER: Can the chick live without these temporary organs and parts of the egg after hatching? YESTEACHER: Why can the chick live without these organs and parts of the egg? OPEN DISCUSSIONSWBAT: determine that the embryo can live without these organs and parts of the egg because they are temporary-short term or a phase during development The embryo absorbs the parts of the egg during development.
