This document summarizes the sermon given at Gospel Baptist Tabernacle on October 20, 2013. The sermon focused on 2 Samuel 22, which describes King David's song of praise to God for delivering him from his enemies and making him victorious. The sermon emphasized that God will be all that people need, just as he was for David, by saving those who need a savior, providing for those in need, and comforting those who are grieving, as long as people fully commit to seeking God with their whole heart.
As Christians we can ask ourselves: What kind of progress are we making? The same could be asked of the church where we attend. Paul was concerned about the "progress of the gospel" - Philippians 1. Do we exhibit the same kind of concern today?

An Angel of the Lord appeared to Manoah's wife when the Philistines had overrun Israel, and He told her that she would have a son who would begin to deliver Israel from oppressions.
Amidst all the recent shootings and demonstrations I felt we revisit a question asked by Cain to God and that is "am I my brothers keeper"? Both audio and slides can be found at www.cmcoc.org Sermon by: Brian Birdow

The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

3. 2 Samuel 22:26
With the merciful Thou wilt shew
Thyself merciful, and with the upright man Thou
wilt shew Thyself upright. 27 With the pure Thou
wilt shew Thyself pure; and with the froward (false)
Thou wilt shew Thyself unsavory. 28 And the afflicted people Thou wilt save: but Thine eyes are
upon the haughty, that Thou mayest bring them down.
Whatever our need, God will be that unto us.
Only the haughty will God bring down.
Those too proud to repent and turn.
3
4. 29 For
Thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD
will lighten my darkness.
It is only God Who
brightens our life.
He shows us the
blessed road.
4
5. 30 For
by Thee I have run
through a troop: by my God
have I leaped over a wall.
David knew that it was
God alone who had
given him victory.
5
6. 31 As
for God, His Way is
perfect; the Word of the
LORD is tried: He is a
buckler (shield; protector) to
all them that trust in Him.
Proverbs 16 25 There is a way that seemeth right
unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of
death.
6
7. If you want to be happy for the rest of your life,
Do all things God’s Way.
His Way is perfect.
Do nothing which God says not to do.
Do everything which God says to do.
Be faithful.
Your faithfulness depends on no one else.
Do it for your own self.
7
8. We are not promised a trouble-free life.
But we are promised deliverance.
Psalm 34 19 Many are the afflictions of the
righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of
them all. Him who? The righteous.
You live for God with your whole heart,
no matter what anyone else does.
God will bless your life when you do
as God says do.
8
9. Love and obey the Lord, and teach your
children to do the same thing.
Deuteronomy 6 5-7 And thou shalt love the LORD
thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul,
and with all thy might. And these words, which I
command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: and
thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children,
and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine
house, and when thou walkest by the way, and
when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
9
10. God says, “Go to church, worship, enjoy Christian
fellowship, and encourage one another.”
Hebrews 10 23-25 Let us hold fast the profession of
our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that
promised;) And let us consider one another to
provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the
manner of some is; but exhorting (call near;
encourage) one another: and so much the more, as
ye see the day approaching.
10
11. If God says, “Don’t.” then don’t.
Don’t lie, cheat, steal, or kill.
Don’t fornicate or commit adultery; love your mate.
Don’t worship false gods:
Money, stuff, illicit pleasures, power.
If you want God’s best, seek God.
Luke 11 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and
he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it
shall be opened.
11
12. 32 For
who is God, save the LORD? and who is a
Rock, save our God? 33 God is my strength and
power: and He maketh my way perfect (entire; integrity).
34 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet: and setteth
me upon my high places. 35 He teacheth my hands
to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine
arms.
Our Lord is the only True and Living God.
He is One God – Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
12
13. Our God is all that we need.
We can be strong in the Power of His Might.
He gives us the ability to do all that we need to do.
God makes our way perfect,
Meaning complete, fulfilling, satisfying.
13
14. 36 Thou
hast also given me the shield of Thy
Salvation: and Thy gentleness hath made me great.
37 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that
my feet did not slip. 38 I have pursued mine
enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again
until I had consumed them. 39 And I have
consumed them, and wounded them, that they
could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet.
40 For thou hast girded me with strength to battle:
them that rose up against me hast thou subdued
under me.
Victory
14
15. 41 Thou
hast also given me the necks of mine
enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.
42 They looked, but there was none to save; even
unto the LORD, but He answered them not.
43 Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the
earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street,
and did spread them abroad.
Total Victory !
15
16. 44 Thou
also hast delivered me from the strivings of
my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the
heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me.
45 Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as
soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me.
46 Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be
afraid out of their close places.
God gave David what he needed.
As king of Israel, he needed to be victorious
over all his enemies.
He needed to rule.
16
17. 47 The
LORD liveth; and blessed be my Rock; and
exalted be the God of the Rock of my salvation.
48 It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth
down the people under me, 49 And that bringeth me
forth from mine enemies: Thou also hast lifted me
up on high above them that rose up against me:
Thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
Romans 12 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on
you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take
revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath,
for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"
says the Lord. NIV
17
18. “As far as it depends on you”
What you do depends on you.
How you respond depends on you.
Someone cusses you – you didn’t do that.
But whether to cuss them back -- depends on you.
18
19. 50 Therefore
I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD,
among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto
Thy Name. 51 He is the tower of salvation for His
king: and sheweth mercy to His anointed, unto
David, and to his seed for evermore.
We must learn to really worship God Almighty:
Worshipping Him for Who He is,
And giving thanks for all He has done.
19
20. Just as He was for David, God will be
all that we need in our own lives.
Everyone who needs a Savior, God will
save to the uttermost.
Everyone who lacks the necessities, God will
provide richly all things to enjoy.
Everyone who is grieving, God will comfort.
Just seek Almighty God with your whole heart.
Hold nothing back; give yourself to Him.
