This document provides instructions for performing Doppler sonography to measure blood flow velocity in the radial artery. It involves using ultrasound equipment and software to obtain an image of the radial artery Doppler waveform. The student is then asked to analyze the recorded waveform by performing pixel calibration, marking systole and diastole periods of five heart cycles, and calculating average velocity values in centimeters per second. The student fills out a protocol to document the measurements and calculations, and also writes a brief discussion and conclusion citing sources.

2. This slides show you how we get a record from Doppler sonography.

3. We need this technical equipment:
1. Bidop Hadeco ES-100V3
8MHz probe
Cable with USB
connection to a
computer
2. Ultrasound gel
3. Smart-V-Link 4.1 software 4. Gimp 2.10. software

4. 1. We start Smart-V-Link 4.1 software.
Double-click on the
icon of the software
on the screen.

5. 2. Patient Information opens.
We fill basic
information about
our patient.

6. 3. Save filled information about your patient.
Click on "Save".

7. 4. Main Screen opens.
We choose
"Individual Waveform".
We click on the icon.

8. 5. Individual Waveform opens.

9. 6. We turn the probe ON.
Press the
probe button.

10. 7. Now, the device is ready to measure.
Display is ON.

11. 8. We need to put ultrasonic gel on the probe top.
Approximately 3 mm thick
layer of the gel.

12. 9. Find a point in the elbow pit (cubital fossa or fossa cubitalis) where you are able
to detect pulse.

13. 10. Put the probe on the point with pulse and move it slowly to locate the point
where the maximum Doppler sounds are heard.
An ideal probe angle to the
vessel is approximately
45 degrees.

14. 11. Individual Waveform opens.
Here, we double - click
to start measurement.

15. 12. Monitoring Screen with waveforms opens.
Red curve or positive
values are from the
radial artery.
Blue curve or negative
values are from an
adjacent vein.

16. 13. When the waveform becomes rhythmical and stable, we press the probe button
to freeze the waveform.
We need five QRS
complexes ("peaks")
for next analysis.

17. 14. We press PrtSc (Print Screen) on keyboard to save data.

18. 15. We paste Print Screen in open GIMP 2.10. software using CTRL+V.

19. 16. We use Crop tool to select graphic.
Press "Enter" to crop
selected graphic.

20. 17. We save the image. The image is prepared for next analysis.

21. Until this step, we did all steps together.
Now, your individual work starts.
The aim of your work is analysis of a record from
Doppler sonography and fill a protocol.
Next slides show you how to analyze the record and fill
the protocol.

with a record from Doppler sonography.
