Instructions on how to draw a triangle with sides 5cm, 6cm and 7cm 1. Draw a line of 7cm using your 2. Open your compasses to 6cm apart and put them on the end of the line – then draw an arc 3. Do the same with your compasses from the other end of your line – but 5 cm this time, and draw another arc 4. Join the ends of the line Up to the arc’s cross 5. Leave your arcs in!
12cm 8cm 8cm Your turn!
All sides equal length All angles 90 degrees Some quadrilaterals Opposite sides equal length. All angles 90 degrees All sides equal length. Opposite sides parallel Opposite angles equal Opposite sides equal length and parallel Opposite angles equal
Some more quadrilaterals One pair of parallel sides Two pairs of adjacent sides, equal in length
Area of a triangle a b (a x b)/2
Area of a parallelogram = base x height Area of a parallelogram
½ (a + b) x h Area of a trapezium a b h
Exercise 9B, page 123
