Civics is the study of citizenship and government. Citizens have certain rights and duties within the government that rules over their community or society. The ultimate role of government is to do the greatest good for the greatest number of people without harming others. Governments make laws, keep order, and provide services to prevent anarchy. There are three levels of government: national, state, and local. Democracies allow citizens to vote, while republics rule with the consent of the people.
