What will the future hold?
I was raised in a family who has a
penchant for travelling. Before my siblings
and I were around, my parents used to
travel the world seeking for new
adventures and learning about different
lifestyles. Sadly, the frequency of those
trips has decreased since my brothers and
I were born. However, this summer will be
different.
What is my summer going to be
like?
In our contemporary society, this is a
current topic we usually talk about. It also
worries us, because when summer
arrives, most people do not know what
they will do.
English at Baccalaureate
Who am I? I am a Baccalaureate student
who was born in Bilbao 17 years ago. Thus,
I am a native Spanish speaker.
Notwithstanding the fact that I have never
spoken English at home, I have been
speaking it since I can remember. At school
and the academy, of course.
Changing my Mind
This course of 1st Baccalaureate is getting
to the end, and I feel quite bewildered about
the future, so many options to pick from. It’s
like being at a crossroads. Although being
two of the most stressing and tough years of
students’ lives, teachers try to guide us
through the best way of achieving our goals.
To sum up, summer is probably my
favourite holiday ever, because I get to enjoy
my favourite things, which are family,
friends and sun. The only downside is that it
is not endless.
To conclude, I like best the lessons where
everyone or some people take part and
describe some photos because it is a
method to practise the language and to
prepare for First or other exams that are
an important tool for my future degree.
Secondly, humans are creating amounts
of rubbish every year. We have a special
issue with plastics. It is very difficult to
recycle, we cannot reuse it. Mostly all the
food we consume is covered with an
enormous amount of plastic that we do not
recycle. In the future we are going to have
higher temperatures, the level of the
ocean is increasing and this is due to the
fact of global warming.
Sleep? Why would you want to sleep
instead of hanging out and getting
tanned? Well, at the beginning of our
holidays we all need to recharge our
batteries, then you take this as a daily
habit by accident.
My Journey with English
For a good journey, you need a good first step. I
believe this Chinese proverb perfectly summarises
what this year’s English course has been for me.
Right from the very first day of school my teacher
grabbed my attention by making an easy and
lighthearted class which created a good
atmosphere, thus making me and my classmates
enjoy the English classes that followed.
Environment and Work
Some people claim that humans are, in fact, the
Earth’s worst enemy and that there is nothing we
can do to stop pollution. Others, however, seem
more optimistic towards the global concerning issue
and strive to save the planet. I, without any doubt,
belong to the second group. But, what can we do to
preserve the Earth?
Summer, the most awaited moment in the
year. After months of hard-work and
stress, students all around the world can
eventually relax. Almost three months
without any worries and being able to do
whatever you are fond of.
It’s thought that the best thing to do to
take the most out of holidays is to fly to a
pristine place in the other part of the
planet, surrounded by landscapes,
paradisiac beaches and a lot of Nature.
But, for many of us, that’s not plausible to
happen.
On balance, I have to say that these
lessons have changed my mind. I’m not
going to say that now I love English,
because if I said it, I would lie, but I
have to accept that I like it. As the
proverb goes “Better late than never”.
Although I am going to have a great
time in July, the best comes with
August. We’ll go to Portugal, isolated
form the city in a house near the
beach, where the only noise you can
hear is the sound of the waves and
the birds singing. I think it is the best
feeling I have ever felt.
To sum up, summer is a flawless,
unique and incredible time in the life
of a student, and without it, we
woulnd’t have any motivation to do
our best.
Summer is a unique moment in our
contemporary society due to the fact most
citizens are on holidays and people can have
fun with family and friends. Nonetheless,
other people, for instance young people,
prefer going out of their country to speak and
study other languages.
I consider English as a very important tool.
Nowadays, activities such as having a
business or travelling and visiting new
cultures require some English knowledge
that everyone should have. In my case, it
is crucial. My target is to be admitted at
Medicine in the University of the Basque
Country, so I have to do my best and pass
some Cambridge exams so I can enter
more easily.
The Perfect Summer
Sun, time with family and friends, spare
time, watching our favourite TV show,
beaches and new memories. That is how I
would describe summer. The only time
when people are able to disconnect from
their hiccups and their real life. But is it
really like that or is it an illusion?
It is known that human beings tend to
idealise some aspects of life. Memories
are usually altered by our brain.
Sometimes they change without us even
realizing. For instance, I am sure that we
all have a favourite year. Laughs,
happiness, smiles and your favourite
people. However, we have deleted the
brakdowns, the poured tears, the angry
moments. They have all disppeared.
And summer is an impeccable example of
that. Nevertheless, summer is just a mere
season and humans’ emotions cannot be
taken away, It is impossible to feel happy
and full of joy all the time. A lot of people
can’t realize about that and feel pressed to
hide some of their emotions.
However, they are part of our human
nature.
Unfortunately, there are young teens from
all around the world that feel isolated in
summer, and feel like everyone’s summer
is flawless and theirs is not. However, it is
only a period of time and there shouldn’t
be any pressure to have a perfect or
unique summer.
