India Gate is a war memorial located in New Delhi. It was constructed in the 1920s to honor the Indian soldiers who died fighting for the British Army during World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. The 42 meter tall sandstone arch was designed by architect Edwin Lutyens. An eternal flame called the Amar Jawan Jyoti was added in 1971 under the arch to remember soldiers who died in the 1971 India-Pakistan War.
