As COVID 19 cases are increasing rapidly in India again and making our lives hard, there’s a nasty and rare fungal infection affecting some coronavirus patients and it is giving the country a double blow. Fungal infections can be devastating and very harmful. We have seen various reports of fungal infection with mucormycosis, termed as “Black fungusâ€, in patients having COVID 19 or who are recovering from the coronavirus. India has registered around 11,717 cases of black fungus till May 25. Maximum of these cases are being reported from Gujarat and Maharashtra only. There are 2,859 cases of black fungus so far in Gujrat, Maharashtra has 2,770 cases, followed by 768 mucormycosis cases in Andhra Pradesh, 752 in Madhya Pradesh, and there are 744 cases in Telangana. Together, these five states have more than 65 percent of India’s total black fungus cases. The capital city has reported 620 cases of black fungus. Union Minister Mr. Sadananda Gowda said on 26th May that there are 119 mucormycosis cases in Delhi. Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are known to cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
A novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was identified in 2019 in Wuhan, China. This is a new coronavirus that has not been previously identified in humans.
A common viral infection that can be deadly, especially in high-risk groups.
The flu attacks the lungs, nose and throat. Young children, older adults, pregnant women and people with chronic disease or weak immune systems are at high risk.
Symptoms include fever, chills, muscle aches, cough, congestion, runny nose, headaches and fatigue.
Flu is primarily treated with rest and fluid intake to allow the body to fight the infection on its own. Paracetamol may help cure the symptoms but NSAIDs should be avoided. An annual vaccine can help prevent the flu and limit its complications.

Vaccines safety and effectiveness
Do you think vaccination is an important or just harmful substance forced by pharmaceutical companies cooperating with the governments to inject into people? A vaccine can be defined as "biological preparations that, when introduced into the body, cause an individual to acquire immunity to a specific disease” (Davidson. 7). So, for decades, vaccines have been considered one of the best revaluation in medical practice. A long time ago, people all around the world tried to fight with different kinds of fatal diseases by different ways, and one of the most Significant ways is to make a vaccine, to prevent such life-threatening diseases. The first vaccine was against the Smallpox disease. Smallpox is a highly contagious disease and caused a lot of fatalities all around the world, and it is transmitted between people by inhalation of droplets of virus or direct contact with smallpox lesion secretions (Davidson 25). It is a deadly disease, it caused blindness and permanent scars in the patients that survived. Finally, after several attempts to make a vaccine for Smallpox, Edward succeeded to produce an effective and safe vaccine in 1796 by using the cowpox vaccine to protect from smallpox. Cowpox is a disease caused by cows and transferred to a human, and Jenner's theory was based that whoever had cowpox will be immunized against smallpox (Davidson29).“Edward Jenner was an English country doctor who introduced the vaccine for smallpox. Previously a keen practitioner of smallpox inoculation.”
Then, century after century, the vaccine after the vaccine was developed for different kinds of diseases. In the 20th century, one of the most known vaccines was Diphtheria and Tetanus vaccines. Diphtheria is a respiratory illness, causing the release of exotoxin from Corynebacterium diphtheria bacteria which leads to the death of mucous cells in the throat, mouth, and nose, and as a result of cells accumulation the pseudo-membrane are build up and block the airways of the patients which causes death (Davidson42) After years of experiments and trials to make a vaccine to fight this disease, Gaston Ramona French veterinarian and biologist who realized that attenuated Diphtheria toxin is able to activate the immune system of people without causing serious side effects, and by 1927, the toxoid vaccine was freely used all around the world, and it succeeds to drop the number of cases of diphtheria. Then, by using the same way of toxoid, combined Diphtheria and Tetanus Toxoid vaccines were produced. Tetanus can be described as a nerves system infection that leads to spasm and contract of body muscles, especially jaw muscles which make the patients unable to open their mouths (Davidson. 44)
Another example of one of the most significant vaccine is a Polio vaccine. Polio disease, mainly affecting children under 5 years old, and leading to paralysis and often to .
ABSTRACT- Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a major contributor to the global burden of the disease, opportunistic infections, and tumors follow. HIV also directly attacks the immune system and affects certain body’s system (like Central Nervous System, Respiratory and Cardiovascular Systems, Digestive System etc). HIV transmission is complex and depends on the number of behavioral and biological co-factors. The hallmark of HIV infection is the progressive depletion of CD4 helper T cells because of reduced production and increased destruction. Although the typical HIV infected patient shows a sustained CD4 cell increase, a remarkable number of subjects never achieve normal ranges of CD4. HIV infection is also characterized by a marked increase in immune activation, which includes both the adaptive and innate immune systems and abnormalities in coagulation. Extraordinary efforts in the fields of clinical, pharmacology, and biology care have contributed to progressively turn HIV infection from an unavoidably fatal condition into a chronic manageable disease, at least in the countries where HIV infected people have full access to the potent anti-retroviral (ARV) drug combinations that permit a marked and sustained control of viral replication. Although their pathogenesis is still under discussed, they are likely to originate from immune dysfunction associated with HIV infection and chronic inflammation. The last consideration regards the dis-homogenous pattern of HIV disease worldwide. Key-words- Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), simian immunodeficiency viruses (SIV), Antiretroviral (ARV) therapy, Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), Cell mediated immunity (CMI), Anti-retroviral agents

2. What is meningococcal disease?
Infection by the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis
(meningococcus).
Can infect normally sterile sites, causing invasive
disease.
Meningococcal meningitis – cerebrospinal fluid infection
Meningococcal bacteremia – blood infection
Invasive meningococcal disease is a serious,life-
threatening illness, requires prompt medical treatment.
Can also cause other diseases, like pneumonia.
3. What is Men Y?
Men Y refers to Neisseria meningitidis serogroup Y.
Serogroups are based on different biochemical
structures of bacterial polysaccharide coating,the
capsule.
12 known capsular serogroups of N.meningitidis.
Serogroups A,B,C,W135,Y,and sometimes X mainly cause
disease.
Over past 10-20 years, proportion of meningococcal
disease caused by Men Y has changed in the United
States and United Kingdom.
4. Men Y study in the United Kingdom
Study was implemented after extensive use of vaccine
against Men C in the United Kingdom since 1999.
Designed to monitor changes over time in:
number of meningococcal disease cases
type of disease
age group affected
bacteria that cause illness
5. Study results
From 2007-2009,slight decrease in number of cases of
meningococcal disease.
In the same time, the proportion of cases caused by Men Y
doubled.
Significant increases in Men Y infection seen in age groups 15-19,
45-64,65+.
Case fatality ratio was higher for patients with underlying
diseases.
Ex: diabetes mellitus, systemic lupus, complement deficiency.
Higher for patients with meningococcal pneumonia than those with
meningococcal meningitis.
4 major clones of Men Y described in this study.
Clone that increased the most during the time of this study is similar
to the one that caused about a third of all meningococcal disease in
the US during past several years.
6. How dangerous is meningococcal disease?
1000 cases/year reported in the United States.
Meningococcus bacteria are not as contagious as cold or flu.
Spread through respiratory secretions
Ex: via kissing
Risk for most people is low.
Though rare,disease can be devastating.
Can be fatal in 10-15% of cases.
Results in long-term disabilities in 15% of survivors.
Important to get recommended vaccines and promptly seek
treatment.
7. Vaccines for meningococcal disease
Safe and effective vaccines exist against serogroups A,
C,W135,Y.
Vaccines recommended for:
11-12 year olds,with a booster shot at 16.
• If child misses a vaccine, very important to get vaccinated
before living in a college dorm.
People traveling to certain countries.
