The Signs of Easter - May 26, 2019 The 6th Sunday of EasterRedeemerWV
Signs. Signs. Everywhere are signs...
But are there really? Sunday we'll be hearing again the story of the conversion of Lydia told in Acts 16. We see a heart opened by God that hears the Word and receives the gifts from Word and Baptism to create faith. Then we see evidence of that faith in good works.

Renewed in Grace
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

according to John.
Glory to you, O Lord.
The Gospel
45. There was a wedding at Cana
in Galilee. The mother of
Jesus was there, and Jesus
and his disciples had also
been invited. When they ran
46. out of wine, since the wine
provided for the wedding
was all finished, the mother
of Jesus said to him, ‘They
have no wine.’ Jesus said
47. ‘Woman, why turn to me?
My hour has not come yet.’
His mother said to the
servants, ‘Do whatever he
tells you.’ There were six
48. stone water jars standing
there, meant for the
ablutions that are customary
among the Jews: each could
hold twenty or thirty gallons.
49. Jesus said to the servants,
‘Fill the jars with water’, and
they filled them to the brim.
‘Draw some out now’ he told
them ‘and take it to the
50. steward.’ They did this; the
steward tasted the water, and
it had turned into wine.
Having no idea where it came
from – only the servants who
51. had drawn the water knew –
the steward called the
bridegroom and said;
‘People generally serve the
best wine first, and keep the
52. cheaper sort till the guests
have had plenty to drink; but
you have kept the best wine
till now.’
This was the first of the
53. signs given by Jesus: it was
given at Cana in Galilee. He
let his glory be seen, and his
disciples believed in him.
54. The Gospel of the Lord
Praise to you, Lord
Jesus Christ.
55.
56. I believe in God, the Father
almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only
Son, our Lord,
The Apostles’
57. who was conceived by the
Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
The Apostles’
58. was crucified, died and was
buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again
from the dead;
The Apostles’
59. he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right
hand of God the Father
almighty;
The Apostles’
60. from there he will come to
judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
The Apostles’
61. the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
