Have you ever communicate
with people from other
countries?
Do you have any problem with that?

custom and any other capacities and habits and acquired by man as

10. How To Welcome New
People?
Welcoming new people into a group can add to
its overall diversity and strength. Perhaps you are
a member of an organization, club or office and
you're looking to add new members to your team.
You might also just be looking to expand your
circle of friends and invite new people into the
fold. Whatever your situation may be, you can
welcome new people by creating a friendly and
inclusive environment, inviting them to join you,
and avoiding overwhelming or ignoring them.
10
11. Welcoming visitors involves making
people feel relaxed and comfortable
in a new environment. An essential
part of this is small talk - or making
conversation which is not directly
concerned with reaching a business
deal. The theme of small talk is
developed in more detail later in the
unit.
11
13. S M I L E
Remember that first impressions are difficult to undo. If you will be the
first person greeting new people, put on a smile for them when they
arrive. Smiles indicate warmth and friendliness and can make people
feel more comfortable.
• If your guest is greeted with a happy gesture, they are more likely to
feel happy.
• Encourage other members of your group or office to greet these
new people with a smile, as well.
13
14. Introduce our selves
Try exchanging simple introductions. Simply approach the newcomer
and tell them your name and title if you are on the job or at an
organization's meeting.
• You might say something like “Hi, my name is Rebekah and I'm the
Treasurer of this organization. What's your name?”
• Try to get to any newcomers as quickly as possible so they are not
walking around aimlessly with no one to talk to.
14
15. Introduce our selves
15
For a new job : My name is Riley See. I’m a recent elementary education graduate from Ball
State University. I’ve been working at a camp for elementary children this summer, and I’m
excited to find my first teaching position for the coming school year. I have several original
lesson plans I created during my teaching internship that I look forward to implementing in
my own classroom. I attended Brookwood Elementary myself and believe I would be a great
fit for your second grade opening. It would be a joy for me to teach students in the same
place that sparked my love of learning.”
16. Introduce our selves
16
Sample for a persentation : “Good afternoon. My name is Calob Cor and I’m the VP of
Administration and Finance at Northern Investing. I’ve always been passionate about finding
smart ways to save money. I believe establishing money management strategies as early as
possible is the key to securing your future. I began using these strategies myself as I was
working through college, and I now have over $10 million in my retirement fund. That
amount is growing every day, and I’m here to teach you how to set up an account like that,
too.”
Sample for networking : “My name is Sheree Townsend, and I’m the marketing director at
Wise Technology. We’re developing some innovative marketing campaigns designed to
engage new customers right in the streets of Bloomington. I’ve been recruiting local
businesses that want to get involved in these activities. I love chatting with residents around
the area and learning more about what they’re looking for from their smart devices.”
17. Ask them about themselves
After your brief introduction, you will want to find out more about your
guest. In general, people enjoy speaking about themselves, so allow
your guest to do so. Ask them their name, what they do, how they heard
about your organization, and any other questions you might find
pertinent. You might say something like “So what's your name?” and
when they reply ask “How did you hear about our
organization/countries?”
17
18. Provide a space for
introverts
During this welcoming process, be mindful that not all people are equipped to be
social constantly. Many introverts need some time to themselves to recharge.
Provide a space that has games, puzzles, or pamphlets so that these guests and
others can take a breather
18
Give them your contact info
Let them know that you are available if they have any questions at all or just want
to talk. If you have a listserv that announces any upcoming dates in your
organization or office, see if they would like to be added to that so they can stay
informed

KLAUS: No, I've been to Stockholm two or three times but it's my first visit to Malmo.
LOUISE: Klaus, let me get you a drink.
KLAUS: Yes, I'd like a tea, if possible, thanks.
LOUISE: Sure. With milk, or lemon?
KLAUS: With lemon, please - and sugar.
LOUISE: Right.
LARS: Did you have a good trip?
KLAUS: Absolutely no problems.
LARS: That's good. You did fly, didn't you - to Gothenberg?
KLAUS: Yes, that's right, then I drove down here. LARS: Oh that's good. Malmo can be a little wet at this
time of the year ... you'll have to come back in the summer.
KLAUS: Oh, I'd like that. I always like coming to Sweden - and ah! A problem! I need some fish. Can you
