This is a Sunday School lesson per ETB (Southern Baptist curriculum) for (covering) part of the Lord Jesus' sermon on the mount, regarding how, as people within His kingdom, we can go far beyond the law and show extreme love and conformity to what God has had in mind all along: for us to become like Him (His Son, Jesus Christ). In so doing (following Him and allowing Him to live thru us), we become peacemakers, will be called sons of God, causing people's heads to turn upward and to give our God the credit and honor for what He alone could do in our new-born lives.
CHRISTIAN SUPERNATURAL TEACHINGS, BIBLE CLASS LESSONS, GOSPELS BY LEADER OLUMBA OLUMBA OBU, THE SUPERNATURAL TEACHER AND SOLE SPIRITUAL HEAD, BROTHERHOOD OF THE CROSS AND STAR
The document discusses various perspectives on leaving inheritances to children from religious texts and prominent figures. It cautions that large inheritances can destroy ambition and virtue in children. Instead, parents are encouraged to leave children with moral character and skills rather than just money and wealth. The document also provides advice on training children to be good stewards of money and generous givers.
How Can a Loving God Condemn Anyone to HellPeter Hammond
God does not condemn those who have never heard the gospel. All people have received general revelation through creation and have a conscience, and will be judged according to the light they received. However, humans are sinful and fall short even of the light they have. The gospel provides special revelation so people can be saved through faith in Christ. There are no truly good people seeking God - all need salvation.
The document is a sermon discussing how all members of the church are equally important and have different gifts to offer. It encourages readers to use their gifts to serve others through ministries like teaching, encouragement, leadership, and showing mercy. Each person's contributions are needed as the church works together as one body of Christ.
God is the source of all mercy. He sovereignly chooses to show mercy to whom He wills, not based on human merit or works. As believers, we were shown mercy solely by God's grace despite being dead in our sins. We should continually come before God's throne of grace to receive mercy and help. We must also show mercy to others as we have received mercy, demonstrating compassion to those in need as the Good Samaritan did. To remain under God's mercy, we must fear Him, walk humbly, and love mercy as commanded.
Pastors as Brothers: How to Form Gospel-Centered Discipleship and Accountabil...Derick Parfan
This document discusses the importance of Christian accountability and discipleship groups for pastors. It notes that studies have shown pastors who experienced moral failures lacked personal accountability and daily time with God. The document then addresses common objections to accountability groups, citing Bible verses to show why confession of sins to one another and accountability are vital. It explains how such groups can help pastors remain gospel-centered by focusing on praise, confession, understanding the gospel, prayer, and obedience.
God's character is defined by love, not anger or a desire to punish. He demonstrates his love through sending his son Jesus to die for humanity's sins. As Christians, we can develop an understanding of God's loving personality by studying the Bible, following godly teachings, and having a personal relationship with him. While God disciplines those he loves, the discipline is meant to guide us closer to him, not destroy us due to anger. God wants us to know and experience his love and grace.
The document presents multiple Bible verses that indicate God will judge all people based on their deeds and works, not just on faith alone. God searches people's hearts and minds, and will repay each person according to what they have done. All will stand before God and be judged for the good or evil things done in their life. The quality and motivations of each person's works will be revealed and tested by fire, and people will be rewarded or suffer loss based on whether their works survive. The goal for Christians is to please God by the good or evil done in their earthly body, as all must stand before Christ to be judged.

The document discusses the importance of having knowledge of God through a close relationship with Him, rather than just knowing about Him. It says Christians can perish due to a lack of knowledge of God, which is obtained by considering worldly things as worthless compared to knowing Christ. The signs of someone with knowledge of God are running from evil and reaching out to help the lost.
This document discusses what it means to be a missionary and why one should become a missionary. It defines a missionary as someone called by God to preach the gospel in areas where Christ is unknown, who brings their culture and represents God's love. It addresses myths about missionaries and argues that full-time missionaries are still needed. The key reasons given for becoming a missionary are that God wants us to passionately love and glorify him, reflect his greatness to others, and seek worshippers from all nations.
This document presents several Bible passages about love, especially love for children and others. The passages discuss love as patient and kind; not envious or boastful; bearing all things and enduring all things; and being the greatest of faith, hope and love. They encourage walking in love, serving one another in love, loving neighbors and enemies, and loving as God first loved us through sending Jesus. The overall message is about showing unconditional love, forgiveness and compassion for others as commanded by God.
Martin Luther argues that Christians can have assurance of their salvation based on three grounds: 1) The promises of Scripture that those who trust in Christ alone are saved. 2) The sanctifying work of the Spirit seen in the lives of believers. 3) The witness of the Spirit causing believers to cry "Abba, Father." Luther says this cry, though small, expresses the believer's knowledge that they are God's child through Christ. He urges believers to train their conscience to believe that God approves of them, despite doubts, based on Christ's righteousness.
This document provides guidance on spiritual warfare and helping those experiencing demonic oppression find freedom in Christ. It recommends that the individual accept Christ, renounce sin and false teachings, forgive others, and reject pride. Prayer, Scripture reading, and praise are emphasized as the most important tools. The goal is permanent freedom as the individual walks daily with God, not dependence on others. Victory may not be instant, as continued growth in surrender to Christ is important.
This document is a sermon about faith being rewarding. It discusses a Bible passage that says without faith it is impossible to please God, and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. The sermon focuses on how God values human life uniquely compared to other animals, and that those who believe humans are no different do not understand God's perspective. It argues that faith in God and the resurrection of Christ give meaning and value to human life.
This document discusses the differences between gifts and talents, and how they relate to spiritual gifts from God. It provides several Bible passages that illustrate how God gives spiritual gifts to His people to glorify Him and benefit the church. While people can give physical gifts, only God can bestow spiritual talents and abilities. The document emphasizes that within the diversity of gifts in the church, there should be unity and harmony as all members work together under Christ as the head. It concludes with a call to prayer.
VOL. 2 The Hidden Life
COMMUNION WITH GOD IN DAILY LIFE . . . I98
THE INDWELLING OF GOD BY LOVE AND BY THE HOLY SPIRIT . 228
WITH JESUS, NOW AND FOR EVER , • . . 259
This document discusses spiritual warfare and false prophets. It warns that people should test all signs and wonders to ensure they draw people closer to God rather than away. False prophets often involve immorality or have an independent spirit. The word of God is the truth that reveals lies. Victory comes through Jesus' victory on the cross over our old nature, the world system, and the devil. The document provides additional free resources on spiritual warfare on websites and video channels.
The document discusses John Paul II's theology of the body and its application to modern life. It makes three key points:
1. The human body is uniquely capable of revealing spiritual and divine mysteries through physical signs.
2. God revealed himself through becoming human in Jesus Christ. The body is thus central to Christian theology.
3. Sacraments like baptism involve physical acts because it is through our bodies that we encounter God. The separation of body and soul renders the incarnation meaningless.
The document discusses the concept of giving and generosity from a Christian perspective. It argues that true giving comes from understanding God's grace, and that Christians should excel in giving just as they excel in other areas of life. The document encourages readers to consider how they can increase their giving and make it a priority before the end of their lives.
Following Jesus requires counting the cost and forsaking all things for Him. The Bible tells stories of people who were unwilling to give up what they had to follow Christ. True disciples confess Jesus as Lord and submit to Him above all else. They are willing to suffer persecution by preaching the gospel. Counting this cost involves realizing that nothing in this world compares to the treasure of God's kingdom.
The document discusses biblical passages about eternal rewards for believers. It notes that believers will be rewarded according to their works and faithfulness to God. There will be different levels of reward in heaven based on how believers lived on earth, including crowns for overcoming trials and making disciples. The rewards will far outweigh any suffering endured for Christ and motivate Christians to serve wholeheartedly.
This document discusses the difference between gifts and talents. It provides definitions for both gifts and talents from sources like dictionaries. It also examines perspectives on gifts and talents from the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy writings. Key points made include:
- Gifts are things given willingly without payment, while talents refer to natural abilities or skills.
- God gives each person talents or abilities, but it is up to the individual to develop their character and use their talents wisely.
- Parable of the talents shows God expects us to use the talents He has given us and not let them go to waste.
- Developing character and using talents for God requires effort, self-denial and overcoming defects
Identity: Who We Are In Christ: God's ChildrenStephen Palm
The document discusses the identity of Christians based on their relationship with God through Christ. It outlines that Christians are God's children, a new creation, justified, reconciled, friends of Christ, citizens of heaven, ambassadors for Christ, and secure in God's hand. It then focuses on the point that believers are God's adopted children through faith in Christ. This is confirmed by both the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Relationship with God is the foundation of the Christian's identity.

This document discusses spiritual warfare and overcoming sin. It argues that sin is not necessary or permanent, though currently widespread. True freedom from sin comes through Jesus' sacrificial death and our union with him. When we are "in Christ" through faith, we gain victory over sin, Satan, and death. The Holy Spirit transforms us into Christ's image and produces spiritual fruit as we behold Jesus. True surrender to God means yielding our entire lives to his control and desires. Spiritual victory is found by staying filled with the Spirit and walking in the Spirit through total faith and surrender.

This document discusses strategies for improving talent pipelines. It begins by outlining the author's plan to focus on proactively building a pipeline for in-demand, hard-to-fill skills even without open roles. Initial challenges included getting buy-in and tracking candidates. The process involved recruiters sourcing 2 pipeline candidates daily and making 5 pipeline calls each day. Regular reporting and discussions helped drive awareness and demand for the pipeline. Examples showed successes in quickly filling needs and changing perceptions when pipeline candidates were a good match. While concerns include potential waste, the document advocates beginning with faith in the process and focusing on limiting types of waste over time.
The document discusses inversion of control (IoC) and how it is implemented in Laravel using the service container. IoC inverts control of object dependencies from the application code to a generic framework. Laravel uses dependency injection as a form of IoC, where dependencies are created outside classes and injected. The powerful Laravel service container leverages PHP's reflection API to automatically inject dependencies based on class definitions.

This case report describes a pyogenic granuloma lesion in a 30-year-old female patient. She presented with a 3-month history of a painless gingival swelling interfering with eating and speaking. Clinical examination revealed an oval-shaped, erythematous nodule measuring 0.7 cm. Histopathological examination showed numerous blood vessels with extravasated red blood cells within the connective tissue, along with inflammatory cells. This was consistent with a diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma. The lesion was surgically excised. Pyogenic granuloma is a common gingival growth considered to be an exaggerated response to minor trauma or irritation.

Tit 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
This document outlines biblical principles for government and freedom. It argues that true freedom comes from obeying God and his commands. It discusses how the Bible addresses many social and political issues. God has instituted civil government to protect the innocent and punish wrongdoers. The Bible provides principles for limited government that respects things like private property, free enterprise, and religious freedom. Godly leadership and citizens are needed for a nation to prosper. Biblical principles like justice, morality, and strong families are foundations for blessing.
This document argues that feminism is not from God and contradicts biblical teachings about gender roles. It defines feminism as seeking equal rights and opportunities for women, and says Satan has convinced women that God's design of distinct roles for men and women to be abhorred. It cites several Bible passages describing women as helpers to men and commanded to submit to their husbands. The document claims feminism undermines this by having women neglect their home responsibilities and seek careers outside the home. It concludes that modern feminism destroys God's beautiful plan and encourages women to study Scripture to understand God's perfect design.
The document discusses the need to study the books of Daniel and Revelation more closely as we near the end of time. It emphasizes keeping attention focused on God and His law rather than human beings. It notes how God worked throughout history to humble human pride. The second part discusses various biblical passages about election, calling, and salvation through accepting Christ's righteousness. It stresses that true election is dependent upon continual faith and obedience to God's word. Overall the document examines theological concepts around judgment, salvation, and preparing for Christ's return.
The document discusses the importance of living according to the gospel and avoiding unbelief, idolatry, and disobedience. It emphasizes that true faith involves submitting one's entire life to God as citizens of his kingdom. Suggestions are provided for growing in knowledge of God and Jesus Christ through prayer, studying scripture, and obedience.
How Can a Loving God Condemn Anyone to Hell?Peter Hammond
The document discusses how Christians must be prepared to explain and defend their faith. It addresses common objections like how a loving God could send people to hell, and argues that while God is loving, he is also just and holy. It asserts that through nature and conscience, all people know something of God, yet due to human sin and depravity, no one fully lives up to the light they have been given. Special revelation through scripture is needed to understand both God's mercy and wrath. The document aims to thoughtfully respond to skeptics while upholding the holiness, justice, and wrath of God alongside his love and mercy.
What shall i do to inherit eternal life-Margaret DavisAntonio Bernard
This document discusses what is required to inherit eternal life. It says we must allow God's love to come into our hearts. While outward obedience to God's law is important, what is most vital is having the love of God in our souls. We need to surrender our supreme love of self. The document shares an experience of the author realizing through discussion with her father that she only had a superficial understanding of salvation and true righteousness. She was motivated to study diligently to understand what it means to be a Christian and have victory over sin through God's power, not just human effort.
The Catholic Church teaches that homosexuality is an objective disorder and homosexual acts are morally wrong based on natural law and scripture. However, homosexual persons deserve respect, dignity, and support in their struggle with same-sex attraction. The Church calls all people to chastity and self-mastery according to their state in life. While promoting justice, the Church cannot accept homosexuality or homosexual activity as morally good based on its understanding of natural law and God's plan for sexuality within marriage. Homosexual persons, like all people, are called to holiness and purity of heart.
1) The document discusses what our purpose and ambition should be based on scripture. It says our ambition on earth should be to please God and avoid his wrath and judgment after death.
2) It explains that sin brings God's punishment of death, and discusses how people wrongly try to pay for their sins through good works, obeying commandments, prayers, and sacrifices, rather than accepting God's solution.
3) God's solution is that Jesus, being sinless, took our sins and died in our place so we can be forgiven and made righteous through faith in him. The response required is to repent, which means turning from sin and trusting in Jesus.
This document discusses what it means to be a missionary and why one would become a missionary. It describes missionaries as ambassadors called by God to preach the gospel in places where Christ is unknown. It dispels myths about missionaries, such as that they must cross oceans or live in difficult conditions. The document emphasizes that missionaries should be passionate about glorifying God above all else and should be willing to sacrifice everything, including their lives, to spread the gospel.
The document provides an overview of seeking and knowing God's will. It discusses the different types of God's will, including his fulfilled will through Jesus, revealed will found in scripture, and specific will for individual lives. Fulfilling God's revealed will means placing Christ first, loving God, being thankful, making disciples, and living holy lives. Parents have a responsibility to bring up children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Living together as a Christ-centered family allows parents to instruct children according to scripture so they can shine as lights in the world.
The document discusses what believers must do to endure until the end based on passages from the Bible. It says that believers must: 1) build themselves up in faith by making progress in their faith and standing firm on God's word, 2) pray in the Holy Spirit by allowing the Spirit to intercede for them, 3) guard themselves in God's love by consciously choosing to love one another, 4) wait patiently for Jesus' return without growing weary, and 5) save others by preaching the gospel to bring more people to faith.
God wants believers to keep His commandments perfectly, but our sinful nature makes this impossible. The law serves to condemn all people, control sin, and reveal our sinfulness. It also guides Christians in righteous living. However, no one can be saved by obeying the law, as it reveals our inability to fulfill it. We are saved solely by God's grace through faith in Christ, who fulfilled the law on our behalf. The law points to our need for the gospel's forgiveness and empowerment to live according to God's will.
This document discusses why some Christians engage in worldly behaviors like twerking and discusses the biblical call for Christians to not conform to the world. It notes that humans have an inherent need to belong and feel accepted by others. However, Romans 12:2 and Ephesians 4:22-24 call Christians to be transformed by God and take on a new life, rather than conforming to worldly living. The document provides four ways to apply 1 John 2:15, which is to stop loving the world, recognize that love for the Father and world are incompatible, understand what the world offers goes against God, and know that the world will fade away while Christians will last forever. It encourages Christians to cooperate with God's Spirit
This document discusses the concepts of accountability and responsibility from a biblical perspective. It provides several bible verses related to these topics. It summarizes the biblical story of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt to the promised land of Canaan and how they were held accountable for their rebellion against God. The document examines what true accountability looks like beyond just outward behaviors to inward motivations and desires. It questions how we can better stir each other up to love and good works through accountability relationships.
The document discusses the doctrine of justification through faith in Jesus Christ. It provides several key observations about justification: 1) It is based solely on the blood of Jesus, not any righteousness within the person; 2) It declares a person righteous in God's sight, rather than making them inherently righteous; 3) It is an all-or-nothing status rather than a graded scale; 4) It goes beyond a mere pardon by satisfying justice through Christ's atoning sacrifice. Justification is received through faith alone as the instrument, and it is a permanent status rather than something that must be regained after sins.
This document discusses victory in Christ through His righteousness. It explains that Christ overcame sin through the union of His divinity and humanity. Christians can overcome sin by having living faith in Christ through the Holy Spirit, choosing obedience through love rather than fear. When Christians surrender fully to Christ, allowing His character to be perfectly reproduced in them, then Christ will return to take them to heaven.
This document discusses why some Christians engage in worldly behavior like twerking and provides biblical perspectives on living as a Christian in the world. It argues that belongingness is a core human need but conformity to worldly ways can pull Christians away from transforming as God intends. The document encourages Christians to stop loving the world, noting that worldly pleasures are temporary but obedience to God leads to eternal life. It offers advice for Christians to cooperate with God's spirit, study the Bible, find accountability, and focus on spiritual nourishment rather than just entertainment.

The document provides details from Sunday school lessons on Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection based on passages from the Gospel of John. It summarizes key events like Jesus caring for his mother Mary from the cross, fulfilling prophecies as he died, his burial by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, and Mary Magdalene discovering the empty tomb. It then examines Jesus' appearances to Mary and the disciples after his resurrection, giving them the Holy Spirit and commissioning them to spread the gospel. The document analyzes these biblical passages in 4-5 sentences with commentary intended to teach the lessons.
1. Time is a threat as there are seasons for everything under heaven that come and go, yet God has planted eternity within people and nothing can be added to or taken from what God does.
2. True friends can help as two are better than one when facing challenges or finding warmth, and three cords cannot be easily broken.
3. God alone is worthy as one should be careful about words, especially vows, when before God as many words can lead to guilt and destroying what God has done, so it is best to fear God.
The document discusses discipline and God's discipline of Israel according to the book of Hosea. It summarizes that God was preparing to discipline Israel for their lack of faithfulness and knowledge of God, as they had broken God's covenant and rejected his law. It describes how God uses word pictures like sowing the wind and reaping the whirlwind to portray the consequences of Israel's disobedience. While God disciplines out of love to correct and train, the people rejected the prophets and faced punishment as a result of their increasing iniquity. The document encourages examining one's own relationship with God and realizing when it is time to repent and seek Him rather than living as if His rules don't apply.
This was for the ETB SS lesson of Dec. 2, on Hosea chapters 1-3. (Sorry it's late, but the Christmas mail was slow :>)! God sets up an awesome object lesson in Hosea's life, relating to Israel's unfaithfulness to him (idolatry, adultery, you-name-it) and how faithfully He loves them despite of it all. It's interesting to see how God uses and chooses names to show what's going on in the culture that claims to -- but refuses to -- be faithful to Him. The parallels with our modern American "Christendom" are many -- may we not hesitate to seek Him and apply these lessons into our own lives!
Don't be surprised when -- not if -- you find yourself suffering in God's will -- This will happen! You are folllowing Christ's example of reproving the world with a love for them that hates sin enough to suffer. Paul said that in suffering, you're in God's death-to-Life march, on display for the world to marvel at. So prepare and consider proper suffering the honor it is, that is to be rewarded by Him.
This document provides a summary of 1 Peter 5:1-9. It outlines four key points: 1) roles of leadership where elders are called to shepherd willingly and not lord over others; 2) relating to others with humility; 3) relating to God by humbling oneself under God's mighty hand; and 4) resisting the devil by standing firm in one's faith. The overall message is about maintaining the proper attitudes and relationships in the Christian community through humility, submission to authority, and trusting God rather than being proud or fearful.
This is a SS lesson for 10/21/2012. Dying to self / living for God puts you into His Community (Body) that you share in, and that shares with you. You can more than "survive" -- really, thrive as a serving functioning, loving part of that body. His Church of redeemed believers is His joy, and He will be found in them: to God be all the glory! This lesson shares some other passages by Paul about God's multi-faceted grace that shows up for all the world to see in His Church.
Today's SS lesson, "Living As Strangers". We Christians are to be in the world, looking to love and point people to God's grace by our examples and our genuine good deeds. We first must reject falseness (the old life) in our own lives, then we will be free to be Jesus servants by others
Aug. 26 Sunday School lesson, finishing up Ruth. When dealing with Boaz, Ruth didn't just travel to the 'outlet mall' for some bargain basement clearance caliber of husband! Because she was busy serving God, loving people, and oh by the way allowing God to prepare His will in this 'department', you see what happened in her life, the many "great values" that she found! Pardon the shopping analogies, but this little book has some great godly characters who grew in caring about others, and left a tremendous legacy (read the surprise ending). This book has a lot to do with how God eternally loves, waits on and serves us -- look for Jesus! God Bless!!
Last Sunday's lesson, 1 Peter 1"b" with a bit of review on "a". By way of opening illustration, I was friends with a Golden Gloves state champion, amazingly talented at age 16, who I sparred with just one time. One punch, even just a slight jab on his part, was enough to retire me from any fantasies of being a boxer! I'm sure Peter felt infinitely more so about Jesus Christ, just as did the other apostles who knew His Life Death and Resurrection. God Bless!
Abimelech murdered his 70 half-brothers to become king of Shechem. He manipulated his mother's family to gain power. Jotham warned the people through a parable about choosing a righteous leader over Abimelech. Abimelech sowed discord and the people turned against him. God repaid Abimelech for his wicked deeds and the people suffered from civil war.
This document provides a summary of a Christianity lesson on praying with faith, persistence, and humility based on Luke 18:1-14. It discusses three parables Jesus told: 1) A widow who persisted in asking a judge for justice, teaching that believers should pray consistently. 2) God will avenge his chosen who cry to him day and night. 3) A Pharisee who prayed arrogantly about his righteousness compared to a tax collector who prayed humbly for God's mercy, showing humility is needed in prayer. The lesson encourages enduring faith during hard times until Christ's return.
Christianity 103: Meet Needs
1. Jesus notices the crowd's needs and feeds over 5,000 people with just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.
2. When the disciples say they don't have enough food for the large crowd, Jesus tells them to distribute the small amount of food themselves. Miraculously, there is enough to feed everyone with leftovers.
3. A man asks Jesus to heal his possessed son, but the disciples were unable to. Jesus heals the boy, astonishing the crowd, but reminds the disciples that he will soon be betrayed.
The document discusses Jesus' teachings on loving enemies and doing good to those who hate you from Luke 6. It also summarizes parts of Luke that recount Jesus healing a man with leprosy after the man showed faith, and Jesus withdrawing to pray after crowds came to be healed. The document encourages accepting people who seem unattractive and following Jesus' example of prayer.

A375 Example Taste the taste of the Lord, the taste of the Lord The taste of...franktsao4
It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

The Hope of Salvation - Jude 1:24-25 - MessageCole Hartman
Jude gives us hope at the end of a dark letter. In a dark world like today, we need the light of Christ to shine brighter and brighter. Jude shows us where to fix our focus so we can be filled with God's goodness and glory. Join us to explore this incredible passage.
1. Lesson Point:
Main Idea:
• Jesus values all human life and expects His followers to do
the same.
(Background )
/ Lesson Passages:
(Matt. 5)
Matt. 5:172-20, 21-22, & 43-45
Memory Verse: Matt. 5:14
Jan. 17
Carrying His Values
2.
3. • BRIDGE / INTRO to 5b from 5a: (2 weeks ago):
• Recall the Beautiful AttiTudes of Matt. 5a:
1. Poor in spirit (humble), faking nothing, admitting our need of God
2. Mournful, wanting to shed death of our sin natures
3. Meek, wanting to inherit properly
4. Hungry to be filled up as righteous
5. Merciful, overflowing to others
6. Pure in heart, wanting to reveal only God thru our lives
7. Peacemakers, wanting to reconcile others’ to God (evangelism)
8. Persecuted for God (and then: even Doubly so)!
• On the heels of salt & light: righteousness must TRULY be fulfilled, so that
others may be led back to God. Unlike the myriad of legalisms of the Scribes
& Pharisees, who were the “right” ones in their minds:
• Only in Christ, in the Kingdom, are we MADE capable of living fruitful,
productive lives (the Beatitudes)!
4. 1. Look to the Scriptures (Matt. 5:17-20) • :17 On the heels of salt & light – REALLY fulfill “the Kingdom!”
God’s commandments for real living.
• The law was /is a gift to men, to constrain from sin natures – a
schoolmaster /tutor who leads toward Christ (Matt. 11:13; Rom.
10:4; Gal.3:24-25; Jn. 1:17)
• Knowledge, without realizing its intent to make us somehow
PRODUCTIVE – is just vain repetition.
• God allowed the weakest law could become, seemingly, thru the
Pharisees – who multiplied their own versions. I’m reminded of
the layers of so-called knowledge on how to teach, by teachers
who don’t always (*some of them) know the subject matter!
• Unlike the myriad of legalisms of the Scribes & Pharisees, the
“right” “legends in their own minds”
• ALL NATURE has awaited / awaits the further revealing of Christ
(Rom. 8:19; 1 Cor. 15:24 consummation as the kingdom is
delivered to God the Father).
• :19 ALL must be fulfilled – complete righteousness, as God
intended – not walking a fence line or crossing over to
licentiousness. Cf. Matt.18:6–we’re eg-accountable to/for others
• :19a-c Witness the foolishness of some decadent false teachers
–versus– :19d-e e.g. Billy Graham.
• :20 it MUST be His gift! Eph. 2:8-9. Repentance comes from
hearing God’s words.
• BUT it (His words) must also be operative in us – not just
hearers, deceiving ourselves (Jam. 1:22). We have an
obligation to live as Christ did – sinlessly! If we deny Him by our
lives, we are not following Him & are none of His (2 Tim. 2:19-21
• If Pharisees can show fleshly zeal, surely we who are born
again can show more (Php. 3:9-10, BUT THIS IS PROVEN OUT
BY CHRIST / Grace working with & in us).
5. Relate-able Verses
• Matt. 11:13; Rom. 10:4; Gal.3:24-25; Jn. 1:17; Rom. 8:19;
• Matthew 11:12-15 “From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of Heaven has been taken by storm and
eager men are forcing their way into it. For the Law and all the prophets foretold it till the time of John and—if you can
believe it—John himself is the ‘Elijah’ who must come before the kingdom. The man who has ears to hear must use
them.
• Romans 10: 1-4 My brothers, from the bottom of my heart I long and pray to God that Israel may be saved! I know
from experience what a passion for God they have, but alas, it is not a passion based on knowledge. They do not know
God’s righteousness, and all the time they are going about trying to prove their own righteousness they have the wrong
attitude to receive his. For Christ means the end of the struggle for righteousness-by-the-Law for everyone who
believes in him.
• Galatians 3:23-25 Before the coming of faith we were all imprisoned under the power of the Law, with our only hope of
deliverance the faith that was to be shown to us. Or, to change the metaphor, the Law was like a strict governess in
charge of us until we went to the school of Christ and learned to be justified by faith in him. Once we had that faith we
were completely free from the governess’s authority.
• John 1:14-18 So the word of God became a human being and lived among us. We saw his splendour (the splendour as
of a father’s only son), full of grace and truth. And it was about him that John stood up and testified, exclaiming: “Here is
the one I was speaking about when I said that although he would come after me he would always be in front of me; for
he existed before I was born!” Indeed, every one of us has shared in his riches—there is a grace in our lives because of
his grace. For while the Law was given by Moses, love and truth came through Jesus Christ. It is true that no one has
ever seen God at any time. Yet the divine and only Son, who lives in the closest intimacy with the Father, has made him
known.
• Romans 8:18-21 In my opinion whatever we may have to go through now is less than nothing compared with the
magnificent future God has planned for us. The whole creation is on tiptoe to see the wonderful sight of the sons of God
coming into their own. The world of creation cannot as yet see reality, not because it chooses to be blind, but because
in God’s purpose it has been so limited—yet it has been given hope. And the hope is that in the end the whole of
created life will be rescued from the tyranny of change and decay, and have its share in that magnificent liberty which
can only belong to the children of God!
6. Relate-able Verses
• 1 Corinthians 15:24-27 Then, and not till then, authority and power, hands over the kingdom to God the Father. Christ’s reign
will and must continue until every enemy has been conquered. The last enemy of all to be destroyed is death itself. The
scripture says: ‘He has put all things under his feet’. But in the term “all things” it is quite obvious that God, who brings them
all under subjection to Christ, is himself excepted.
• Matthew 18:5-7 “Anyone who welcomes one child like this for my sake is welcoming me. But if anyone leads astray one of
these little children who believe in me he would be better off thrown into the depths of the sea with a mill-stone hung round
his neck! Alas for the world with its pitfalls! In the nature of things there must be pitfalls. yet alas for the man who is
responsible for them!
• Ephesians 2:4-10 But even though we were dead in our sins God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great love he had for
us, gave us life together with Christ—it is, remember, by grace and not by achievement that you are saved—and has lifted
us right out of the old life to take our place with him in Christ in the Heavens. Thus he shows for all time the tremendous
generosity of the grace and kindness he has expressed towards us in Christ Jesus. It was nothing you could or did
achieve—it was God’s gift to you. No one can pride himself upon earning the love of God. The fact is that what we are we
owe to the hand of God upon us. We are born afresh in Christ, and born to do those good deeds which God planned for us
to do.
• James 1:21-25 Have done, then, with impurity and every other evil which touches the lives of others, and humbly accept the
message that God has sown in your hearts, and which can save your souls. Don’t I beg you, only hear the message, but put
it into practice; otherwise you are merely deluding yourselves. The man who simply hears and does nothing about it is like a
man catching the reflection of his own face in a mirror. He sees himself, it is true, but he goes on with whatever he was
doing without the slightest recollection of what sort of person he saw in the mirror. But the man who looks into the perfect
mirror of God’s law, the law of liberty (or freedom), and makes a habit of so doing, is not the man who sees and forgets. He
puts that law into practice and he wins true happiness.
• 2 Timothy 2:19-21 God’s solid foundation still stands, however, with this double inscription: ‘the Lord knows those who
belong to him’, and Let every true Christian have no dealing with evil. In any big household there are naturally not only gold
and silver vessels but wooden and earthenware ones as well. Some are used for the highest purposes and some for the
lowest. If a man keeps himself clean from the contaminations of evil he will be a vessel used for honourable purposes, clean
and serviceable for the use of the master of the household, all ready, in fact, for any good purpose.
• Philippians 3:7-11 Yet every advantage that I had gained I considered lost for Christ’s sake. Yes, and I look upon everything
as loss compared with the overwhelming gain of knowing Jesus Christ my Lord. For his sake I did in actual fact suffer the
loss of everything, but I considered it useless rubbish compared with being able to win Christ. For now my place is in him,
and I am not dependent upon any of the self-achieved righteousness of the Law. God has given me that genuine
righteousness which comes from faith in Christ. How changed are my ambitions! Now I long to know Christ and the power
shown by his resurrection: now I long to share his sufferings, even to die as he died, so that I may perhaps attain as he did,
the resurrection from the dead.
7. 2. Value Human Life (Matt. 5:21-22)
• Again, surface level laws are the outermost
fringes of what we do to hurt each other. Hell is
the ultimate judgment, all earthly judgments are
meant to serve that opp to be saved soundly by
God’s grace, for all men.
• [Rather, we will see at the end of the lessons:
LOVE: Speak first kindly to bros. and others. ]
• The progression of sin: Anger & jealousy
murder (Gen. 4 (Cain); 1 Jn. 3:12 jealous of
righteousness. James says watch out: that sin
will stalk, conceive and bring forth death. Jam.
1:14-15, 19-20.
• :22 Stages of “advancement”: Judgment by:
●others; ● by a group; ● by God’s Eternal
standards. (Cf. Matt. 18:25, church judgment)
• //// :23 __Go FAR beyond, to ensure that God’s
kingdom is served, rather than our jealous /
selfish fleshly desires.
• :25 count the cost with your enemy Satan
pursuing you (this time, rightfully, if you’ve sinned
and deserve judgment (1 Pet. 3:17 Don’t get
judged for sinning, but for doing right!). Lk.
14:31-34 says to count the cost, you must deny
yourself, and come to terms with your enemy and
how you will truly represent Christ to others. You
must work out your salvation (Php. 2:12), or risk
having your faith shipwrecked (1 Tim. 1:19).
8. Relate-able Verses
• 1 John 3:12 unlike Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered[a] his brother. And why did he murder
him? Because his works were evil, and his brother’s were righteous.
• James 1:14 But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desires. 15
Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.
• James 1:19 My dearly loved brothers, understand this: Everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak,
and slow to anger, 20 for man’s anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness.
• Matthew 18:25 Since he had no way to pay it back, his master commanded that he, his wife, his children,
and everything he had be sold to pay the debt.
• 1 Peter 3:17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will,[a] than for doing evil.
• Luke 14:31 “Or what king, going to war against another king, will not first sit down and decide if he is able
with 10,000 to oppose the one who comes against him with 20,000? 32 If not, while the other is still far
off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, therefore, every one of you
who does not say good-bye to[a] all his possessions cannot be My disciple.
• 34 “Now, salt is good, but if salt should lose its taste, how will it be made salty?
• Philippians 2:12 So then, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but
now even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
• 1 Timothy 1:19 having faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and have suffered the
shipwreck of their faith.
9. 3. Love Beyond Expectations (Matt.5:43-45)
• :27-32 (Filler) “you have heard.. But I say..:” do
not commit adultery by evil-ly (selfishly) desiring
another, which would cause unfaithfulness.
• :33-37 Do not swear and conduct your lives in
an assuming-ly self-righteous way. Be open to
God’s will even changing to accommodate your
spiritual progress or regress.
• :38-42 Give & yield to the “ignorant” (those
unaware of God’s offer of grace) and even those
who abuse you. Offer grace & truth (as Jesus to
his strikers, the false religious leaders).
• :43 Crux: This goes far beyond just a “non-
negatives’ righteousness” of a surface-level not
doing of the “NO”s. Instead, Yes do the YES’s of
evangelism (loving to cover over sins, and to
share Christ). Recall Beatitude #7: Peace-
makers are called ‘Sons of God’: a witness!
• CHRIST”S EXAMPLE.: HE could have judged
all of us to hell, instantly. Instead, he warns and
reproves and leads us toward His salvation (the
admonition and nurturing of the Lord).
• Loving those who love you is easy, and
perfunctory – and isn’t His type of LOVE (read 1
Cor. 13). God is patient, kind, …
• Love covers a multitude of sins. Love will lead
others to Christ. Do not use labels, but reveal
ALL sin as equally repugnant before God. We
