These slides cover briefly the concept of circular economy, how it aims at reducing waste to a minimum. When a product reaches the end of its life, its materials are kept within the economy wherever possible. These materials would then be productively used again and again, thereby creating further value. Circular economy has enormous benefits when compared against the traditional linear and recycling economies.

Applying design thinking to reimagine our First Year Experience - EFYE 2017 B...clairemcdonnell5
Presentation given at European First Year Experience conference. This session presented the lessons learned as well as the outcomes of evaluations undertaken for 20 prototype projects to enhance the First Year Experience that were implemented in three higher education institutions in Dublin in 2015-6 (Dublin Institute of Technology, Institute of Technology Tallaght and Institute of Technology Blanchardstown). Recommendations that we can now make at an institutional level regarding which initiatives could and should be implemented more widely and the next steps required are also discussed as are findings that we feel can be extended more widely to other higher education institutions.
Cloud Computing clearly represents a significant change in how digital services are delivered, consumed, and produced. There are many examples of current services and solutions implemented with the power of Cloud technology – take for example, Google’s search, Spotify’s music or Elisa’s TV service.
The Cloud Software consortia has achieved great results and generated real business value for many companies. Some of the examples are presented in this book. In addition, we believe that the CSW partners have formed a unique innovative and collaborative ecosystem in Finland. This signals companies to venture forth into a new digital economy where they can create and capture new value in fresh ways, spark new products, services, processes
and businesses and most importantly, create new rules and opportunities for competitive advantage and breakthrough outcomes.

Projektværktøjsdagen 2013 - Peter Weihe Wolfsberg, Managing Consultant, PA Consulting group.
Softwaret understøtter bl.a. produktbaseret planlægning. Det er et krav i Visual Program Leadership, at risici og problemer relateres direkte til leverancer eller produkter, dette krav understøttes af MPI. MPI er et meget effektivt værktøj i både planlægnings- og eksekveringsfaserne.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

‒ FIBIC has an updated strategy and a well-defined vision in the field of bioeconomy
‒ Competence platforms are a great achievement and an essential part of SHOK
‒ We need various types of funding to exploit the competence platforms comprehensively
‒ IPR issues are slowing down program building
‒ Open discussion is needed to tackle the obstacles and to reach our targets
‒ 2014 research volume will probably be smaller than 2013
‒ High quality of research will be maintained
‒ Business impact of results is an important performance indicator which should be
communicated both internally and externally
