Increase Student Math Achievement through Differentiation and Review
We will present strategies that engage students in all levels of thinking and higher level questioning. Differentiated instruction in the math classroom will be highlighted as well. Two major topics will be an EOG review station plan and using cartoons to encourage reading and writing in the math content area.
1. Fraction Vegetable Garden
Thomas and David are planting a vegetable garden. To help, their
mother has divided the plot into smaller rectangular plots. Thomas and
David decide they really like tomatoes, so they plant 3/8 of the garden as
tomatoes (T). They plant 5/24 of the garden as corn (C), 1/4 as beans (B),
and 1/6 as squash (S). They also decide to save space by planting lettuce
(L) in the same plots as 3/5 of the corn.
