There Are A Lot Of Things From "Grease" That Still Make Absolutely No Sense
2. 14 Of The Most Disturbing Movies Ever Made
What is it that makes a movie fall under the "disturbing" category? The list of criteria is never ending — it can
be the horrific subject matter or chilling cinematography. It can also be the way the filmmakers slowly build
suspense over the course of 2 hours by depicting a wide array of gruesome actions. Whatever it is, there's
one thing that's certain — you know a film is truly disturbing when you can't get it out of your head. For better
or for worse, that's exactly the case with these controversial flicks. Check these out!
3. "Begotten" (1991)
Without a single word spoken, "Begotten" will evade your subconscious in such an unsettling and bone
chilling way. The eerie underscore coupled with the grainy picture quality enhance the disturbing quality of the
film as you watch God literally commit suicide, ripping himself apart piece by gruesome piece. Talk about
world shattering stuff right there.
4. "A Serbian Film" (2010)
If you want a complete, grotesque assault of the senses, this is the film for you. It's so disturbing that we
really feel the director should be institutionalized somewhere. "A Serbian Film" is full of gruesome rape
scenes and extreme child sexual abuse that are depicted in a much too realistic way. The film is currently
banned in Spain, Finland, Portugal, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, and
Norway. Seriously, there is no coming back from this one.
5. "Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom" (1975)
"Salò" is the sickening tale of four wealthy fascists who kidnap and imprison 18 young girls and boys, then
subject them to horrific torture and sexual abuse for 120 days. Full of sadism and sexual depravity, the film is
banned in many countries with many controversies concerning the actual making of the film. Yet there are an
equal number of defenders of the film who claim it is an important work of art, no matter how much it makes
your stomach churn.
6. "Necromantik" (1987)
Taking the concept of necrophilia to a whole other demented level, "Necromantik" is the tale of a road cleaner
who brings a decomposing corpse home for his girlfriend and who subsequently becomes unnaturally
obsessed with it, (in a sexual way, of course). Designed purely to shock, there are plenty of eye-covering,
sick-to-your-stomach moments to make you want to become a celibate for the rest of your life.
7. "Aftermath" (1994)
It may be a mere 30 minutes long, but it will literally be the most anguishing 30 minutes of your life. Another
film that contains zero dialogue, "Aftermath" opens on a seriously disturbed mortician mutilating and later
engaging in acts of necrophilia with a corpse. Trying to squeeze as much realistic, gory moments as possible
in such a short time, the film is sure to have your squirming in your seat.
8. "The Human Centipede" (2009)
While there is no doubt that the second and third installment push the WTF factor into overdrive, the original
is where the disturbing madness all began. As you may have guessed, a crazed scientist embarks on an
experiment to create a human centipede by breaking the jaw then sewing the mouth of one person onto the
butt of another. The pooping scene alone will have you gagging for days.
9. "Deadgirl" (2008)
From the same producers as "Hellraiser" and "Heathers," you may believe this film to be on the tamer
side...and you'd be completely mistaken. While exploring a crumbling mental asylum, two teenage boys
discover a naked and mute woman chained to a table in the basement — and decide to completely wreck
havoc on the helpless victim. Exploring the disturbing and gruesome limits of humanity, there are many
scenes that will haunt your dreams for years.
10. "In My Skin" (2002)
Typically films make us squirm by watching the extreme violence and horror inflicted onto innocents by some
seriously sadistic people, but "In My Skin" pushes things to a whole other level by having the main character
inflict all the grotesque injuries and pain onto herself. After accidentally injuring herself, the main girl can stop
feeding (yes FEEDING) on the pain. If you want waves of disturbing gore, this film does not disappoint.
11. "Grotesque" (2009)
What starts so sweet following a loving couple out on a date quickly and violently takes a sadistic turn when
they are kidnapped and shackled in a room covered in plastic. They're held by a mad doctor intent on
torturing and mutilating them in some seriously shocking ways. To prolong their pain and our squirming, he
treats their medical wounds in order for them to survive (and thus suffer) as long as possible.
12. "Antichrist" (2009)
Lar von Trier is not one to sugarcoat any of his films, and "Antichrist" is definitely no exception. As probably
his most disturbing creation, the film follows the tale of a grief stricken couple who lost their son after he fell
out of a window. Going to a remote cabin in the woods in an attempt to heal, quite the opposite happens as
the wife completely loses her mind. Filled with cringeworthy sadomasochism and perverse sexual acts, you'll
feel dirty just watching this film.
13. "Cannibal Holocaust" (1985)
If the title alone doesn't tip you off to just how disturbing this film is, perhaps knowing that the director was
actually arrested and tried for murder might speak volumes to the disturbing nature of this found-footage film.
Following a group of self-righteous journalists who travel to the Amazon and encounter cannibalistic
indigenous people, the animal deaths depicted were definitely (and controversially) real. Two monkeys (yes
two, he didn't like the first take of the monkey death scene), a spider, pig and turtle are all shown dying on
film. Just prepare yourself for that if you're brave enough to still watch it at this point.
14. "In a Glass Cage"(1986)
A perverse ex-Nazi who tortured children is caught and attempts to commit suicide, but fails. One of his
former victims grown up comes to serve as his nurse, yet things take a very strange and disturbing twist at
this point. You may have thought he is there to exact revenge, but in fact he is there to take the aging Nazi's
place by capturing, mutilating, raping and murdering children while the man is forced to watch. Saying it is
messed up is definitely an understatement.
15. "Guinea Pig: Flower of Flesh and Blood" (1985)
Similar to "Aftermath," this 42-minute short film pretty much lacks any plot line or sense of story to grab
onto in order to at least somewhat understand the horrible violence unfolding before your eyes. Kidnapped on
her walk home, a young woman is slowly and gruesomely mutilated in such an agonizingly slow manner. The
film is so painfully real that even actor Charlie Sheen thought it was real and contacted the FBI to launch an
investigation, which they followed up on.
16. "August Underground’s Mordum" (2003)
Following a group of psychopaths that get off on acts of mutilation, rape and dismemberment, "August
Underground's Mordum" is a grisly and shockingly real-looking film that is sure to send more than a few
shivers down your spine. Gory beyond belief, some disturbing scenes include violation with the use of
severed appendages and cannibalism of a maggots-covered, headless toddler. View at your own risk.
