Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert where he fasted for 40 days and was tempted by Satan. Satan tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread when he was hungry, offered him authority over all the kingdoms of the world if he worshipped Satan, and challenged Jesus to throw himself from the highest point of the temple and have angels save him. Each time, Jesus responded by quoting scripture to defend himself. Satan tried to manipulate Jesus' needs, offer shortcuts, and twist scripture to challenge Jesus' faith, but Jesus relied on knowing and properly interpreting the Bible to withstand each temptation.

2. Jesus Tempted by Satan (Lk 4:1-14)
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by
the Spirit in the desert,

where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during
those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to
become bread."

Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone.'"

The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all
the kingdoms of the world.

And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor, for
it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to.

So if you worship me, it will all be yours."

3. Jesus Tempted by Satan (Cont.)

Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve
him only.'"

The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest
point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw
yourself down from here.

For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you to
guard you carefully;

they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your
foot against a stone.'"

Jesus answered, "It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an
opportune time.

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about
him spread through the whole countryside.

4. TEMPTATION NO. 1
The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to
become bread.“
Why start with this?
•Satan thought he would easily get Jesus in the
area where he is weak. This is Satan’s strategy.
•Notice how he frames his argument? “If…..”
Creating doubt in Jesus mind? Challenging his
power?
•He Manipulate our NEEDS

5. Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live
on bread alone.'“
Meaning: Do you think that my life is dependent
on this?
So often we think if I don’t get that I will be so sad and
sometime think I will die. But what does your life depend
upon.
Q. Why did not Jesus Turn stones into bread?
Could he not do it?
Jesus’ life is life of selflessness. He would not
do anything for his personal benefit.

6. "I will give you all their authority and
splendor, for it has been given to me, and I
can give it to anyone I want to”.
Q.What is wrong in this temptation?
Given to me???
Q. On what ground he said it? Basis of Claim?
Sin… (II Cor. 4:4)
Imagine the way he tells a lie and with so confident, as
it was truth. This is why Jesus no wonder called him
“liar”

7. Q. Why did Jesus come into the world?
A. To redeem his people from the power of sin and
satan. Because of sin the destiny of man was hell
with Satan. Jesus came to win His people back to
God.
Q. But what was the procedure involved?
A. Dying on Cross.
But Satan was giving Jesus a “Short Cut”.

8. "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God
and serve him only.'“
Q. Why would Jesus quote from the Bible?
A. Of course in a way this is Jesus’ own
word. But Satan does not have an
antidote to it. During our temptations,
when we come up with our own
suggestions, Satan will have an answer
to that.

9. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself
down from here.
For it is written: "'He will command his angels
concerning you to guard you carefully;
they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will
not strike your foot against a stone.'"
Satan is so naughty. He has seen Jesus responding from
the scriptures, against which he does not have counter
attack.
So finally he is going to use the scripture.
He is “twisting” the scripture according to his own
benefits and is also challenging Jesus’ faith.
And this is what he does, twists the scriptures and

10. "It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to
the test.'“
