of our work. Today, two projects--the Metro Phase II and
Nag River Conservation--are going on. In our previous

of both these projects to the Central Government. PM
Modi put those proposals on the fast track. There were
some flaws in these proposals. The government changed
in between and in 2.5 years, the previous (Maha Vikas
Aghadi) government could not even rectify those flaws.
After our government came (to power) again, we rectified
the mistakes. On my request, the Prime Minister’s Office
completed the process of these two projects in just 35
days and they were approved by the cabinet. And today,
the Bhoomi Pujan is being done.”

gathering in Nagpur on
Sunday, the PM said
“country’s development
cannot take place
through shortcut poli-
tics” and that “some po-
litical parties are trying
to destroy the economy
and people should ex-
pose such politicians
and parties.”
Terming the state-
ment as “funny”, Shiv
Sena (UBT) Spokesper-
son Priyanka Chatur-
vedi said. “Short-term
politics is undermin-
ing the Constitution,
the federal structure of
the country, democracy
and agencies to form
an illegal and uncon-
stitutional govern-
ment.”
In a reference to the
formation of Eknath
Shinde-Devendra Fad-
navis government in
June, she said, “You
(BJP) could have wait-
ed for five years for
elections and then got
your majority. But

BUS ACCIDENT
Mumbai: A 30-year-old woman received severe burn
injuries as a two-storey house collapsed following a
cylinder blast in suburban Vikhroli on Saturday evening,
an official said. Sujata Kawale (30) was injured in the
incident, The walls and slab of the first floor of the house
collapsed due to the LPG cylinder blast and the woman
was rescued from the debris. She had suffered 80-90%
burn injuries and her condition was said to be critical.
Thane: Vijay Patwa (52)
was allegedly kicked to
death by a 19-year-old
construction worker in
Dombivili of Thane district,
police said. After a quarrel
erupted between the
victim and his assailant
over spitting, the latter
allegedly pushed the victim
and kicked him. Patwa
fell unconscious and was
rushed to a hospital, where
he was declared brought
dead, said Inspector RM
Khilare. Accused has been
arrested by police.
Mumbai: A 17-year-old
boy was detained for
allegedly raping a girl of the
same age multiple times
after blackmailing her with
an intimate picture with
him. The boy had clicked a
selfie kissing the girl while
they were celebrating her
birthday in Bandra’s Carter
Road area on October
10. The Khar police said
that the accused allegedly
repeatedly raped the girl
from October 10-26. Cops
have arrested the accused.
Thane: Three devotees
walking to the Saibaba
temple in Shirdi were
injured when an
unidentified vehicle
knocked them down near
Kalambe village of Thane
district late on Saturday
night. The injured devotees
were rushed to a local
hospital. While their
condition is stable, they
are undergoing further
treatment. A case has
been registered against
an unknown party and a

Raigad: Two students were
killed and 47 others injured
on Sunday night when their
bus overturned in a hilly
section near Khopoli town
in Raigad district. They were
returning from a picnic in
Lonavala, police said. Prima
facie, the driver of the bus
lost control of the wheel due
to the failure of the brakes.
The incident occurred near
Magic Point hill on the old
Mumbai-Pune highway
around 8 pm, about 14 km
from Lonavala.

tem of Air Quality and
Weather Forecasting
And Research (SAFAR),
the overall Air Quality
Index (AQI) of Mumbai
was in ‘poor’ category
on Sunday
.
While the overall AQI
of India's financial cap-
ital was 211, the AQI of
Bandra Kurla Complex
(BKC) was in the ‘very
poor’ category at 305,
while Chembur was at
302. Mazagaon likewise
had ‘very poor’ air qual-
ity, with an AQI of 328.
Meanwhile, a few plac-
es saw better air quality
than others but still not
up to the mark of satis-
faction—such as Bhan-
dup and Andheri,
whose AQI was record-
ed in the ‘Moderate’ cat-
egory at levels 156 and
166, respectively. Navi
Mumbai also recorded a
‘Moderate’ AQI at 166.
Meanwhile, certain
areas had better air
quality than others but
were still not satisfacto-
ry
, such as Bhandup and
Andheri, where the AQI
was reported in the
‘Moderate’ category at
levels 156 and 166, re-
spectively. Navi Mum-
bai had a ‘Moderate’
AQI of 166 as well.

Leopard captured in Nashik, residents on alert
Nashik (PTI): The
state Forest Depart-
ment officials have suc-
cessfully trapped a male
leopard in the Deolali
area in Nashik, said of-
ficials on Sunday
.
Vivek Bhadane,
Range Forest Officer
(RFO) said, “Ten days
ago, we received a com-
plaint about a Leopard
being spotted in Deolali
area of Nashik. We laid
a trap on Saturday, and
captured an adult male
leopard.”
“The leopard has
been sent to a nursery
at Gangapur in Nashik,
and will undergo a
check-up,” he said.

visional Officer Vivek
Bhadane said that the
Forest Department has
succeeded in capturing
the leopard in a cage in-
stalled near an army
school in the military
area.
According to Forest
Departmentofficials,an-
other cage has been in-
stalled at the pumping
station of the Canton-
ment Board, as there are
stillsomeleopardsthere.
“People have been ad-
vised to be alfor the
next eight to 10 days as
there is a possibility
that more leopards
might be roaming in the
area,” he said.
“Local residents have
also been asked not to
send small children out-
side during the night
and early morning,” he
added. As per officials,
the Deolali camp area
has now become home
to leopards and the ex-
istence of big cats in the
villages of Darna Kath
is proven. There is a
large forest area on the
camp’s west side, which
is adjacent to the army
cantonment area.
Officials said they
were taking precau-
tions and had installed
around 12 camera
traps in the area to
monitor the movement
of leopards.

Mira-Bhayandar: The Bhayandar police are on the look out
for a ‘tantrik’ who duped a 64-year-old farmer of his entire
life savings totaling around Rs12 lakh. Apart from facing a
financial crisis, the farmer who lives in Rai village, was also
worried as his wife was suffering from several health issues
since the past several years. “The accused who seems to be a
habitual offender is absconding,” said Bhayandar police station
Senior Inspector Mukutrao Patil. Due to a financial crisis and
his wife’s health conditions, the distressed man came to know
about the suspect, Vinay Acharya from Nallasopara, who
promised to perform a special ritual to bring ‘money-rain’.

Mumbai: As was the
norm when the city was
fighting COVID-19 pan-
demic, the Brihanmum-
bai Municipal Corpora-
tion (BMC) has decided
to reinstate its order of
cleaning public and
community toilets five
times a day. It begs the
question whether it will
be enough to overhaul
the whole modus oper-
andi when it comes to
public toilets?
The civic body has
issued instructions
to the Solid Waste
Management Depart-
ment and an implemen-
tation plan is being
put together.
“The BMC has decid-
ed to keep the toilets
clean and sanitize them
five times a day,” said
Iqbal Singh Chahal,
BMC Commissioner.
Lack of cleanliness
in public toilets creates
serious health hazards,
making them a nui-
sance to residents liv-
ing nearby. Even
though the BMC, Ma-
harashtra Housing and
Area Development Au-
thority (MHADA), and
Mumbai Metropolitan
Region Development
Authority (MMRDA)
have spent significant
funds to construct
and repair the toilets,
maintenance has re-
mained neglected.
Additionally, the
number of toilets per
user is also not up to the
mark. Currently, there
is currently one public
toilet seat per 752 males
and 1,820 females. This
ratio is not in compli-
ance with the pre-
scribed numbers under
the Swachh Bharat Mis-
sion (SBM), which are,
one toilet for 100-400
males and 100-200 fe-
males respectively
.
Based on the census
slum population fig-
ures, currently, there is
one community toilet
seat per 42 males and 34
females, while the SBM
prescribes one toilet
for 35 males and 25 fe-
males respectively
.

Mumbai: The Nation-
al High-Speed Rail Cor-
poration Ltd (NHSR-
CL), which has under-
taken the Mumbai-
Ahmedabad bullet
train project, is yet to
paytheMumbaiMetro-
politan Region Devel-
opment Authority
(MMRDA) for the Ban-
dra Kurla Complex
(BKC) land allotted for
the construction of an
underground station.
The MMRDA is the
special planning au-
thority for the BKC,
and it had allotted 1.52
ha of land above the
ground and 3.22 ha be-
low the ground for the
construction of the
BKC bullet train sta-
tion. In lieu of this, the
MMRDA was supposed
to get Rs3,889 crore as a
compensatory amount.
Speaking to the me-
dia, a senior MMRDA
official said that they
have written to the
NHSRCL for the pay-
ment. “The NHSRCL
will take up the com-
pensation payment
subject in their board
meeting and thereafter
some process will be
seen. We are waiting
for the same,” the offi-
cial stated.
The Maharashtra
government is also an
equity holder in the
high-speed bullet train
project. Therefore, ex-
cluding Rs5,000 crore
(thestategovernment’s
share), the MMRDA
has demanded the re-
maining Rs3,889 crore
as compensation.
According to the of-
ficial, “Some of our
plots near the BKC
bullet train station
are getting unbuilt
(losing development
potential), therefore,
following the set back
on the land plots, this
much compensation
was demanded.”

Infant dies as woman

driver held for murder

driver of a van from
which a woman
jumped off with her
10-month-old daugh-
ter to escape molesta-
tion, resulting in the
death of the toddler,
has been arrested, po-
lice in Maharashtra’s
Palghar district said
on Sunday
.
The woman and her
child had boarded the
van, which operates
from Chinchoti to
Vapi, between 11am
and 11:30am on Satur-
day to go to Mastan
Naka in Manor, a po-
lice official said.
The woman was al-
legedly molested by
the cab driver and
some other passen-
gers in the van while
she and her child were
returning from Pel-
har to Poshere in
Wada tehsil.
It is being investi-
gated whether she
jumped off the vehi-
cle with the child or
whether she was
pushed off and the in-
fant flung out by the
accused, he said.
“The child was de-
clared dead on arrival
at a nearby hospital,
while the woman is
undergoing treatment
for injuries. The driv-
er was arrested dur-
ing the day,” he said.
The driver has been
charged under sec-
tions 302 (murder)
and 354 (assault or
criminal force to out-
rage modesty of wom-
an) of Indian Penal
Code, he said.
While the case has
been registered at
Mandvi police station,
the probe has been
handed over to the
Crime Branch and it
will be supervised by
Deputy Commission-
er of Police rank offi-
cials, he added.

AMONG MINORS

consensual sex
among minors under
the Protection of
Children from Sexu-
al Offences (POCSO) Act is an
issue which the Chief Justice of
India DY Chandrachud wants
Parliament to look at. Under the
Criminal Law Amendment Act
of 2013 the legal age for consen-
sual sex is 18 years. The POCSO
Act criminalises all sexual acts
among minors even if it is con-
sensual. This, the CJI said in his
keynote address at the National
Stakeholders Consultation on
Child Protection, said, “…in my
time as judge, I have observed
that this category of cases poses
difficult questions for judges
across the spectrum. There is
growing concern surrounding
this issue, which must be con-
sidered by the Legislature in
light of reliable research by ex-
perts in adolescent healthcare”.
The CJI’s opinion becomes
important in the light of con-
doms, alcohol being found in
class 10 students’ bags in Ben-
galuru. Obviously, children are
indulging in consensual sex at a
minor age and society has to ac-
cept this fact.

Security Council
(UNSC) resolu-
tion allowing aid to organi-
sations under UN sanctions
on humanitarian grounds.
The resolution was moved by
the US and Ireland to give
“humanitarian carve-out”, a
humanitarian exception or
exemption for terrorist out-
fits, including those based in
Pakistan. Those who are
aware of how Pakistan’s In-
ter-Services Intelligence
(ISI) and the government si-
phon any financial aid to
fund terrorists and India has
been the biggest victim of
this misuse.
It is not that the US is not
in the know of such diver-
sion of funds. Some of the
US governments have turned
off the tap in the past on that
basis. Adding the word hu-
manitarian will not change
the conduct of aid recipients
in spreading terror at any
given opportunity. The rea-
son why Pakistan was placed
on the grey list of Financial
Action Task Force (FATF)
since 2018 was because of
“strategic counter-terrorist
financing-related deficien-
cies”. It was removed from
the global “terrorism” fi-
nancing list only in October
this year. One doesn’t know
what guarantee Pakistan
provided for the bailout.
While abstaining, India’s
Permanent Representative
Ruchira Kamboj called for
“caution and due diligence
to be exercised while extend-
ing humanitarian assistance
to proscribed entities…who
continue to thrive with full
state hospitality in territo-
ries universally acknowl-
edged as terrorist havens by
the international communi-
ty”. She said that these ter-
ror outfits use humanitarian
aid as an umbrella to recruit
fighters.
The resolution was adopt-
ed but India made its point
very clear. The UNSC mem-
ber countries must not turn
soft on banned terror groups
for their strategic interests.

erages computers and ma-
chines to mimic the problem-
solving and decision-making
capabilities of the human
mind. AI is shaping the fu-
ture of humanity across
nearly every industry. It is
already the main driver of
emerging technologies like
big data, robotics and Inter-
net of Things (IoT), and it
will continue to act as a tech-
nological innovator for the
foreseeable future. Several
examples of artificial intel-
ligence impact our lives to-
day
. These include FaceID on
iPhones, the search algo-
rithm on Google, and the rec-
ommendation algorithm on
Netflix. You’ll also find other
examples of how AI is in use
today on social media, digital
assistants like Alexa, and
ride-hailing apps such as
Uber. In 2022, artificial intel-
ligence will have progressed
far enough to become the
most revolutionary technol-
ogy ever created by man.
Artificial intelligence or
AI simulates human intellect
to machines. AI-enabled ma-
chines are capable of per-
forming some of the specific
tasks better than humans
and mimic human actions.
There are four types of AI:
Reactive machines AI: This is
the most superficial level of
AI. Reactive machines can do
basic operations. They can-
not form memories or use
past experiences to make de-
cisions like the IBM’s Deep
Blue. Limited memory AI
can store existing data and
create better output by using
the data like Tesla’s self-driv-
ing cars. Theory of mind AI
can connect with human
thoughts and interpret them
better but these are still work
in improvement or progress.
Self-aware AI (a thing of the
future) will have an inde-
pendent intelligence, and it
will make its own decisions.
These machines will be
smarter than the human
minds.
JOBS AI CAN REPLACE
Based on the nature and type
of jobs replaceable by AI are
customer service executives,
chatbots, bookkeeping and
data entry, receptionists,
proofreading, manufactur-
ing and pharmaceutical
work, pharmaceutical labs,
retail services, and courier
services.
JOBS AI CAN’T REPLACE
Human creativity knows no
limits and hence fields of
strategic thinking, leader-
ship, conflict resolution and
negotiation, emotional intel-
ligence, and empathy are
qualities in jobs that AI can-
not replace at any point in
time. Following are some of
the professions which would
stand the test of time: Hu-
man resource managers,
Writers, Lawyers (limited to
Evidence processing), Chief
executives, Scientists (limit-
ed to support analysis of
data), Psychiatrists, Public
relations managers, Soft-
ware developers, and Project
managers.
The final goal of AI is that
a machine can have a type
of general intelligence simi-
lar to a human’s is one of the
most ambitious ever pro-
posed by science. The design
and application of AI that
can only behave intelligently
in a very specific setting is
related to what is known
as weak AI, as opposed
to strong AI. Strong AI would
imply that a properly de-
signed computer does not
simulate a mind but actually
is one, and should, therefore,
be capable of intelligence
equal, or even superior to hu-
man beings. As of today, all
advances in the field of AI
are manifestations of weak
and specific AI.
The human brain is very
far removed indeed from AI
models, which suggests that
so-called singularity-artifi-
cial super intelligences based
on replicas of the brain that
far surpass human intelli-
gence-are a prediction with
very little scientific merit. In
fact, we can affirm that cur-
rent AI systems are examples
of what Daniel Dennet called
“competence without com-
prehension”
TRULY INTELLIGENT AI
Among future activities, we
believe that the most impor-
tant research areas will be
hybrid systems that combine
the advantages of systems
capable of reasoning on the
basis of knowledge and mem-
ory use with those of AI
based on the analysis of mas-
sive amounts of data, that is,
deep learning. But they are
more like black boxes with
no capacity to explain and
suffer from limitations of
“catastrophic forgetting.” No
matter how intelligent future
artificial intelligences be-
come, they can’t follow the
same socialization and cul-
ture-acquisition and recogni-
tion of human values. The AI
machines will inevitably
carry some errors and ethi-
cal issues with social impli-
cations.
The new or latest develop-
ments in AI are the creation
of new chips that help run
deep neural networks faster.
These chips can be used to
train models to recognize im-
ages, speech and text more
efficiently. Apart from this
introduction of new AI con-
cepts such as reinforcement
learning, generative adver-
sarial networks, and pro-
gram synthesis. New algo-
rithms allow for a greater
level of control in operating
rooms and medical centres
around the globe. Similarly,
self-driving vehicles and city
infrastructure will benefit
immensely from advanced AI
algorithms and machine
learning frameworks.
AI is now able to under-
stand human emotions to
some extent and has the capa-
bility to predict human be-
haviour. For example, some
forms of AI can now tell if
someone is lying or not. AI
can now also be used for so-
cial good and in the future
maybe even save lives and
prevent crimes. Second, they
allow us to predict what will
happen in the future by using
AI to create forecasting mod-
els that can tell us about fu-
ture events or changes in
trends. And finally, they help
us understand how people
behave and react so that we
can improve our own behav-
iour and reactions as well as
develop better customer ser-
vice based on what people
want and need. As AI forays
into every aspect of human
life, it is time for intervention
by responsible actions by
policymakers as well as in-
dustry stakeholders to coun-
ter its possible misuse.

The master plan for the
temple town of Ayod-
hya that will govern its
development for the
next decade has been
approved by Uttar
Pradesh Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath.
The master plan
aims at improving the
living standards of
about 12 lakh people
who will occupy an
area of 133.67 square
kilometres.
The master plan 2031
was presented by the
housing and urban
planning department
to the chief minister
after disposing of 1,084
objections that were
raised by the citizens.
The department also
had to finalise the fa-
cade control guide-
lines and a common
building code.
Principal secretary,
housing, Nitin Ramesh
Gokarn said that ap-
proval of the Ayodhya
master plan was fast
tracked to promote ho-
listic growth of the
city. The last master
plan for the develop-
ment of Faizabad/Ayo-
dhya was prepared in
1983 and lapsed in 2001,
he added.
The Yogi government
approved the Ayodhya
2031 master plan before
those of other cities.

Vacancies in HCs: Parl panel
expresses its displeasure
New Delhi (PTI): Amid
a standoff between the
govt and the Supreme
CourtCollegiumoverthe
appointment of judges, a
parliamentary panel has
asked the Executive and
the Judiciary to come up
with “out of box think-
ing”todealwiththe“per-
ennial problem” of va-
cancies in high courts.
The department-re-
lated standing commit-
tee on Law and Person-
nel in its report tabled
in Parliament on Thurs-
day said it is not in
agreement with the
comments of the De-
partment of Justice in
the Union Law Ministry
that “time for filling up
of vacancies of judges
in the higher judiciary
cannot be indicated”.
The timeline has been
drawn in the Second
Judges Case and also in
the Memorandum of
Procedure (MOP) re-
gardingtheappointment
of judges, it pointed out.
“But regrettably,
those timelines are not
adhere to by both, the
Judiciary and the Exec-
utive,whichisleadingto
delay in filling up of the
vacancies,” it lamented.
It said as per the data
provided by the govern-
ment, as on December
31,2021,therewerethree
high courts of Telanga-
na, Patna and Delhi
where vacancies were
more than 50 per cent
and 10 HCs where va-
canciesaremorethan40
per cent of their respec-
tivesanctionedstrength.
“These all are large
states, where judge to
population ratio is al-
ready skewed and such
level of vacancies is a
matter of deep con-
cern,” the panel headed
by BJP leader Sushil
Kumar Modi observed.
The govt and the Judi-

noted, “should come up
with some out of box
thinking to deal with
this perennial problem

or the gap between elec-
tricity required and sup-
plied, has fallen from 2%
in April this year to 0.2%
in November 2022, as per
latest government data.
However, the power deficit
has increased sequentially
from 0.1% (124 million
units) in October 2022. It
stood at 0.2% (233 million
units) in November 2021.
The data showed that the
deficit was 2,752 million
units (MU) in April this
year, which came down to
199 MU in November

repurchase of its own shares,
as rules prohibit such a move,
sources said, adding the firm
will use its strong liquidity
for the purpose. Paytm has a
liquidity of `9,182 crore, as
per its last earnings report. The
company’s board is scheduled
to meet on December 13 to
consider a share buyback

civil aviation market has
exciting and significant
opportunities but taxation
has always been an issue
which also makes the in-
dustry less competitive,
according to IATA chief
Willie Walsh.
The International Air
Transport Association
(IATA) is a global grouping
that represents around 300
airlines, including those
from India. India is seeing
a “much stronger recov-
ery” than the Asia Pacific
region in general but there
could be challenges in
terms of getting new air-
craft and spare parts.
“The market in India...
The opportunity in India
has to be considered
to be very very sig-
nificant. There are
issues in India not
unique to aviation
but the regulatory
regime and bureau-
cracy can hinder the
pace (of growth),”
Walsh said.
While the Indian market
has not seen the pace of
growth that was seen in
China, the potential exists,
he said and emphasised
that in India, he sees a re-
ally exciting market and
opportunities.
After being severely im-
pacted by the pandemic,
the country’s civil aviation
sector is on the recovery
path. “When you look at In-
dia, I see massive opportu-
nities, the size, population,
growing wealth, lack of

DGCA ISSUES RECORD 1,081 COMMERCIAL
PILOT LICENSES SO FAR THIS YEAR
New Delhi (FIB): According to official data, India’s aviation regulator
DGCA has issued 1,081 commercial pilot licenses in 2022, which is
the highest for any year in the last one decade.The record issuance
of Commercial Pilot Licenses (CPLs) also comes at a time when the
country’s civil aviation sector is recovering at a fast
pace after being hit by the coronavirus pandemic
and the domestic air traffic is inching towards
the pre-pandemic level. As per senior official
at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation
(DGCA) 1,081 CPLs have been issued in
2022 till December 6 and the number is
likely to cross 1,100 by the year-end.This is
also the highest for any year since 2011, as
per the data. In 2014, the number of CPLs
issued stood at 896 while the count was at
862 in 2021. An individual is eligible to apply
for CPL after completing at least 200 hours of
flying and fulfilling other conditions.

Explore trade in ` with
more nations: Govt
New Delhi (PTI): Having
facilitated rupee trade with
Russia, Mauritius and Sri
Lanka, the government has
asked trade bodies and
banks to explore such op-
portunities with more na-
tions, sources said.
Indian banks have al-
ready opened special vos-
tro rupee accounts with
banks of these three na-
tions, operationalising the
rupee trade arrangement.
Recently, SBI Mauritius
Ltd and People’s Bank of
Sri Lanka opened an SVRA
with SBI. In addition, Bank
of Ceylon opened an ac-
count in its Indian subsidi-
ary in Chennai.
Union Bank of India has
opened special rupee ac-
count of Ros Bank Russia
while Chennai-based Indi-
an Bank has opened such
accounts of three Sri Lan-
kan banks, including Co-
lombo-based NDB Bank
and Seylan Bank.
In all 18 such special ru-
pee accounts have been
opened by 11 banks, includ-
ing 2 of Russia and one of
Sri Lanka, following ap-
proval from the RBI. The
RBI issued detailed guide-
lines on cross-border trade
transactions in the domes-
tic currency in July
.
The FinMin asked stake-
holders to explore more
countries and establish
this mechanism as part of
its plans to expand bilater-
al trades through SVRAs
and internationalise indig-
enous payment modes.

Sixth round of
India-UK FTA
talks to begin
from today
New Delhi (PTI): The
sixth round of negotia-
tions between senior offi-
cials of India and the UK
for a proposed FTA will
begin here on Monday
with an aim to conclude
the talks at the earliest, an
official said.
The last round of talks
was held on July 29. “The
sixth round of talks are
starting from December
12,” the official said.
Trade in goods, includ-
ing passenger vehicles, is
one of the areas under the
negotiations, which start-
ed on January 13, 2022.
In a free trade agree-
ment, two countries either
significantly reduce or
eliminate customs duties
on the maximum number
of goods traded between
them. The UK side is de-
manding duty concessions
in the automobile sector.
G20 Finance Track to
kickstart from Tuesday
New Delhi (PTI): The G20
Finance Track meetings
under India’s presidency
will start on Tuesday and
deliberate on various mat-
ters of global relevance,
including infrastructure
development, sustainable
finance, global health, in-
ternational taxation and
financial sector issues.
India assumed the G20
presidency on December 1
from Indonesia. The G20
Leaders’ Summit will be
held in New Delhi in Sep-
tember 2023.
The first G20 Finance
and Central Bank Deputies
(FCBD) meeting, jointly
hosted by the Finance Min-
istry and the Reserve Bank
of India (RBI), is scheduled
to be held during Decem-
ber 13-15 in Bengaluru.
The meeting of the G20
Finance and Central Bank
Deputies will be co-chaired
by Economic Affairs Secre-
tary Ajay Seth and RBI
Deputy Governor Michael
D Patra, the finance minis-
try said in a statement.
Their counterparts from
G20 member countries, and
from several other nations
and international organi-
sations invited by India,
will participate in the
meeting.
‘Govt will take
all measures to
meet 230 GW
peak demand’

gle-day peak demand ex-
pected in April 2023, ac-
cording to Power Secre-
tary Alok Kumar.
The secretary said there
are two parameters on
which the government will
work.
Firstly, it will ensure
there should be enough
power generation capacity,
and for that companies
have been directed to carry
out maintenance work of
their plants so there is no
issue at that time, he said.
According to Kumar, the
demand in April next year
could be as high as 230 GW.
As per official figures,
the maximum all-India
power demand met at 2:51
pm on April 26, 2022 was
201.066 GW.

police officials, some
vehicles procured by
the Mumbai police
earlier this year under
the Nirbhaya Fund are
currently being used
to provide Y-plus secu-
rity to MLAs and MPs
of the Shiv Sena faction
led by Chief Minister

In June this year, the
city police force had
procured 220 Boleros, 35
Ertigas, 313 Pulsar mo-
torcycles and 200 Activa
two-wheelers using the
Rs30 crore that it had
received under the
Nirbhaya Fund.
The development

tionalist Congress Party
(NCP) to attack the Shin-
de-led government, as
they asked if the securi-
ty of the ruling legisla-

than protecting women.
The Nirbhaya Fund
has been granted to the
state governments by
the Centre since 2013 to
implement schemes re-
lated to women’s safety
.
“After the vehicles
were procured in June,
they were distributed to
all 97 police stations, cy-
ber, traffic and coastal
police units in July,”
said the official.
“Of these vehicles, 47
Boleros were requisi-
tioned from several po-
lice stations by the Mo-
tor Transport Depart-
ment of the Mumbai
police. This was done
following an order from
the VIP security section
of state police that they
are required for use as
escort vehicles for MPs
and MLAs of the Shin-
de faction to provide Y-
Plus security cover to
them,” he said.
However, 17 of the ve-
hicles, which were used
for the security of these
lawmakers, were re-
turned to police stations
after the requirement
was fulfilled, he added.
The Congress and
NCP criticized the
Shinde-led government
for diverting the vehi-
cles to provide security
to the lawmakers of the
ruling party
.
“Is the security of
ruling MLAs more im-
portant than protecting
women from abuse?”
asked Congress Spokes-
person Sachin Sawant.
It is appalling and
outrageous to see the
Nirbhaya Fund, which
is meant for the Nirb-
hayas of Maharashtra
being used for the secu-
rity of MLAs, he said.

Mumbai (PTI): The
Mumbai police have ar-
rested a 47-year-old
man wanted in connec-
tion with a riots case
of 1992, an official said
on Sunday.
Based on technical
inputs, the police laid
a trap and apprehended
the accused from Din-
doshi bus depot in the
western suburb of Mal-
ad on Friday, the offi-
cial said.
The accused was
wanted in a case of
rioting that occurred
in the jurisdiction of
Dindoshi police in 1992,
he said.
The police had
named nine accused in
the first information
report (FIR) registered
at the time and filed a
charge sheet. Two of
the accused were ac-
quitted and one had
died, the official said.
The remaining six
accused did not appear
before the court and
were declared abscond-
ing and a warrant was
issued against them in
2004, he said.
The arrested accused
had been living in
various places in the
suburbs by changing
his identity for the last
18 years, the official
said, adding that
further investigation
is ongoing.
