This document provides guidance for small group leaders. It discusses the purpose of small groups as deepening relationships with Jesus and empowering people. It emphasizes listening to group members, creating a trusting environment, and focusing on community rather than oneself. The document offers tips for effective leadership, such as treating members with respect, asking open-ended questions, and allowing space for personal growth without judgment. Throughout, it stresses creating an atmosphere of care, confidentiality, and spiritual growth through friendship.
The document discusses different levels or categories that youth can be at spiritually and suggests matching youth programs and activities to their appropriate level. It identifies several levels including unchurched, unconnected, regular attenders, growing youth, and youth leaders. The document then provides examples of different programs and activities that could engage youth at each level, from outreach events for unchurched youth to leadership training for older youth. The goal is to help youth grow spiritually by providing programming suited to their current level of spiritual development.
This document outlines a youth ministry training session focused on developing programs that go both "deep" in spiritual growth and "wide" in evangelism. Participants are asked to introduce themselves and consider how to address youth who are apathetic, interested, or coachable spiritually. Suggestions are provided like assigning accountability partners, studying Scripture together, and field trips to motivate evangelism. The goal is for youth leaders to leave with a homework assignment to immediately apply something from the training in their ministry.
The document discusses developing a defining vision for churches through the Acts 16:5 Initiative. It provides seminars on transformational and missional ministry for pastors and teams. It also discusses pastor clusters for encouragement and accountability. A vision team works with the pastor and council to apply concepts. The goal is to awaken a high expectation for ministry through developing a clear defining vision.

Humility - it's a funny old concept in our culture. We juxtapose Jesus' purifying the temple with his suprising claim to be humble. What does that tell us about what humility really is, and what it means for success?
The document provides guidance on developing an annual evangelism strategy for a church. It recommends beginning with prayer and preparation, then understanding the church's purpose and prioritizing evangelism. The key elements of a strategy are outlined as evangelistic prayer, personal evangelism training, events/activities, ministry/servanthood evangelism, visitation/follow-up, and leadership development. Goals should be set for these areas and needs assessed to implement the strategy. Regular evaluation allows improving the strategy annually to effectively reach the community for Christ.
According to the document:
- 60% of Southern Baptist churches reported no baptisms of people aged 12-17 in recent years, and baptisms have declined 13% from historical averages, the worst drop in 62 years.
- Ed Stetzer predicted declines for the church. However, the church is growing overseas and some churches are growing rapidly.
- Successful church changes follow principles like having a guiding team, communicating a vision, empowering others, achieving short-term wins, and making the change stick long-term. Small experimental changes are less likely to succeed than planned changes following a process.

Christianity should not be a spectator sport, but rather something we actively participate in. God calls us all to get involved in living out our faith on the "field" by playing the positions he assigns us, rather than sitting on the sidelines. While we will make mistakes, God gives us grace, and the goal is to press on toward what God has called us to, rather than dwelling on past failures. The document promotes two youth programs - "Go for the Gold", which uses the Olympic rings as a metaphor to teach concepts like salvation, and "Destined to Win", which uses the metaphor of running a race to teach about the Christian life.

Soar into Small Groups & Ministry Teamsvitalchurches
This document discusses shifting from audience-oriented programming like worship services and classes to more face-to-face ministry like small groups and spiritual direction. It emphasizes balancing large group and small group ministry. Small groups are said to grow faith and friendships while meeting needs. Guidelines are provided for effective small groups, including size, meeting frequency, and using a discipleship triangle of word, share, and prayer. The document also discusses developing ministry teams instead of just using committees, and outlines five centering practices for effective ministry teams.

This document outlines an early ministry institute taking place from May 4-8, 2014 at the Stony Point Conference Center. The institute will focus on developing a 3-dimensional vision for churches and Christians encompassing doxological (glorifying God), koinonial (growing disciples), and missional (meeting human need) elements. It provides resources and strategies for developing ministry teams, defining a congregational vision, growing disciples, and navigating transitional periods in ministry. Key aspects include developing a profile of a disciple, emphasizing small group ministry, and practicing spiritual disciplines like a rule of life and protected planning time.
This document discusses how growing churches are more open to new ministry ideas than declining churches. It encourages leaders to give people permission to use their gifts, which can lead to unexpected ministries. It then provides conversation starters about how ministry ideas develop and face resistance. The document promotes a book called "Just Say Yes" and provides information on ordering it in bulk. It also lists additional online resources located at SayYesToMinistry.org, including videos, case studies, and training materials to help churches develop a culture of saying yes to new ideas.
Having difficult conversations is necessary for change and growth in churches. As pastor, one must speak the truth about problems while also caring for people. It is difficult because churches are like families and people don't want things to change. However, not addressing issues means problems will compound. It is important to give regular feedback, address small problems early, and focus conversations on a positive vision. Doing this can help churches improve instead of just managing decline.
The document discusses the role and responsibilities of spiritual leaders and teachers. It emphasizes that spiritual leaders should model godliness, uphold biblical principles, and reflect Christ in their appearance, actions and attitudes. Spiritual teachers are called to nourish their spirit, live as an example to students, and engage in spiritual warfare, growth and discernment as they serve and teach others.
The document provides information about the Alpha toolkit and resources for evangelization. It outlines:
- The Alpha course is a 10-week program used in thousands of Catholic parishes to evangelize adults through talks and small group discussions.
- There are also Student Alpha, Alpha Youth, and marriage/parenting courses available. Courses can be adapted for prisons, seniors, military.
- Resources include training, manuals, and support to run Alpha successfully as part of ongoing parish evangelization and catechesis.
This document provides an overview and training for leading Alpha courses. The key points are:
1) The purpose of Alpha is to gently and respectfully help people come to know Jesus and build Christian community.
2) Alpha uses a small group discussion format to build trust and relationships which are seen as central to its success in helping people explore faith.
3) Effective small group leadership focuses on listening without judgment, making people feel valued, and drawing out thoughts and feelings rather than providing answers. The goal is for people to experience Jesus through the community.
The document discusses the three main roles or "hats" of an elder: discipleship, service, and oversight. It emphasizes that the roles of discipleship and service apply to all Christians, not just elders. Developing disciples who make disciples through strategies like dyads, triads and quads is key. Elders must also equip and deploy people for ministry according to their spiritual gifts. In their oversight role, elders should love and lead with the eyes of Jesus, seeing people's true needs. Effective eldership requires defining a clear vision, discernment, strategic planning and granting appropriate levels of permission to others. Eldership is challenging in times of rapid cultural and ecclesiastical change, requiring humility, experimentation and maintaining
The document discusses spiritual disciplines and their purpose of cultivating spiritual growth and a healthy relationship with God. It describes spiritual disciplines as practices that create time and space for life transformation by deepening our relationship with God. Christians throughout history have engaged in spiritual disciplines because they are modeled and taught by Jesus in the Bible. The document provides an overview of six Groundwork episodes that will explore specific spiritual disciplines in Scripture such as prayer, fasting, simplicity, silence, service, and Scripture study. It encourages engaging with the episodes to learn about applying these disciplines to one's spiritual life.

The
Synopsys Championship showcases the
achievements of middle and high school students in
Santa Clara county. Students are challenged to do
independent project based research to address
questions in the fields of Computer Science,
Environmental Science, Medicine & Health, Chemistry,

The student conducted a science fair project to test the effect of banana peels on reducing lead levels in contaminated water. They hypothesized that mixing banana peels into lead-contaminated water would decrease the amount of lead over time. Through an experimental procedure testing fertilizer runoff water, the student found that samples with banana peels gradually decreased their lead levels to zero after 12 hours. The results supported the hypothesis that banana peels can effectively reduce lead in water. The student concluded that banana peels have potential as a natural water purifier and method to reduce agricultural waste.

Projecting the potential impacts of COVID-19 school closures on academic achi...Jim Hsia
In this study, we produce a series of projections of COVID-19-related learning loss and its potential effect on test scores in the 2020-21 school year based on (a) estimates from prior literature and (b) analyses of typical summer learning patterns of five million students. Under these projections, students are likely to return in fall 2020 with approximately 63-68% of the learning
gains in reading relative to a typical school year and with 37-50% of the learning gains in math.
However, we estimate that losing ground during the COVID-19 school closures would not be universal, with the top third of students potentially making gains in reading.

Developing the Whole Child - Milpitas Christian PreschoolJim Hsia
When learning is fun, children are more attentive and more motivated. Our interactive activities apply a variety of proven teaching methods to reach all learners—including those who may speak another language at home.
Play-based learning helps young children to build critical communication and collaboration skills without realizing that they are actively learning. Singing, drawing, and counting help kids build academic foundations. Sharing and cooperating with other children allow children to develop social and emotional skills.

The document provides guides for leading Bible study discussions over 4 days. Day 2 focuses on Joshua 7:1-26, in which the Israelites are defeated in battle due to Achan's sin of taking spoils. The passage emphasizes the need to purge sin from the community to reconcile with God. Day 3 examines Joshua 22:1-34, where a misunderstanding nearly causes conflict, but leaders communicate to resolve issues. Day 4 looks at Matthew 18:21-36, where Jesus teaches that those forgiven much should forgive others, showing the relationship between reconciling with God and others. The guides provide discussion questions and background to help leaders facilitate understanding and application of the themes.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
