The parable describes a man who entrusts his servants with talents (money or valuables) according to their abilities before going on a journey. Two servants double their talents through work or investment, but one buries his talent out of fear. When the master returns, the two faithful servants are rewarded for their work, but the unfaithful servant is punished for not putting his talent to use. The parable teaches that God expects us to develop and use the abilities and opportunities he provides for his service.
