This document discusses the roles and responsibilities of different levels of government and stakeholders in developing a Transportation Framework for the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (TFTN). It addresses what TFTN means, the need to include all modes of transportation, and the roles of federal, state, and local governments in coordinating data collection and standards. Private sector involvement and input from the public are also seen as important. While road data is incomplete nationally, attributes like geometry make sense to include. Existing programs around highway performance, emergency numbering, census, and national mapping could contribute data but may need to expand coverage. The stakeholders will determine the final efforts and next steps.
