The students were instructed to complete their daily language review (DLR) from the previous day and have their shoulder buddy correct it. Their names and their buddy's name must be on the DLR to receive credit. They were also told to take out the first part of their grammar, usage and mechanics (GUM) workbook and swap with their buddy. Finally, students were reminded to have their vocabulary window, phrase notes and copy of "The Tell-Tale Heart" on the left corner of their desk for the lesson.
