This document discusses factors that influence volcanic eruptions such as magma composition, temperature, dissolved gases, and viscosity. Eruptions can range from nonexplosive effusive eruptions producing lava flows to more explosive eruptions ejecting tephra and ash. The three main types of volcanoes - shield volcanoes, cinder cones, and composite cones - are also introduced. Additionally, the relationship between plate tectonics and volcanic activity at divergent boundaries, convergent boundaries, and intraplate hotspots is examined.
