What is death? What is life? Why is it true that we cannot truly live until we accept our mortality? How did the resurrection of Jesus Christ forever defeat death? Who is Jesus Christ and how was He able to accomplish what no other person in the history of man accomplished? What will happen to you when you die?
We are forgiven by God through Christ, therefore we ought to forgive others even as God has forgiven us. This is the heart of the Gospel. Growth in the spiritual life is often hindered because we often refuse to forgive others.

Lesson 11 of 26 in a series of New Testament Vistas. This sermon on the Holy Spirit comes from John 13-16. It was presented March 4, 2012, at Palm Desert Church of Christ, by Dale Wells
This is a study of Jesus being found. He was found by His first disciples, one of which found Jesus and then found his friend to share that he found the Messiah.
The resurrection of jesus is a prevarication (spoken against), a plethora (great number) of witnesses, a proven fact, a purpose to save us. a plea to live worthy, a pattern for us to follow, a power from God, a promise for us, to believe in, a pledge by our savior.
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." This spiritual lesson takes this well-known verse and breaks it down into each phrase, so that we can dig deeper into the meaning of the Lord's words here.

The afterlife. Many would like to think that there is no such thing as life after death. The Bible, in general, and Jesus specifically tell us much about what happens to people after they die.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2. I want to take a look at a place I want you all to
avoid. This place not prepared for you. Lets
read a story found in Matthew 25.
Matthew 25:31 NIV "When the Son of Man
comes in his glory, and all the angels with him,
he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the
nations will be gathered before him, and he will
separate the people one from another as a
shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
3. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the
goats on his left. 34 "Then the King will say to
those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed
by my Father; take your inheritance, the
kingdom prepared for you since the creation of
the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me
something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me
something to drink, I was a stranger and you
invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you
clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me,
I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
4. 37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord,
when did we see you hungry and feed you, or
thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When
did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or
needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we
see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' 40
"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you
did for one of the least of these brothers and
sisters of mine, you did for me.' 41 "Then he will
say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who
are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the
devil and his angels.
5. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I
was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed
clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in
prison and you did not look after me.' 44 "They also
will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or
thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in
prison, and did not help you?' 45 "He will reply,
'Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of
the least of these, you did not do for me.' 46 "Then
they will go away to eternal punishment, but the
righteous to eternal life."
6.
7. Some Bibles have a 44th or 46th verse some
don’t.
The reason is because in some of the early
manuscripts the Bible is translated from it did
not appear and in some it did.
These verses are the same as v48.
8.
9. Do you get the idea there’s going to be lots of
fire?
Never ending fire?
Even a worm will not be able to end the
suffering by dying.
Let me see if I can give you a little taste of what
it will be like.
10. Picture in your mind a nice home. Go into the
kitchen. There against the wall is an electric
cook stove. Turn the largest burner on high.
Wait a moment till it gets bright red. Put the
palm of your hand on the middle of the burner.
Now you can never take it off the burner and the
burner cannot be turned off.
Bad isn't it?
Here’s a man who actually tells us what this
eternal punishment is like.
11. Luke 16:19 NIV "There was a rich man who was
dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in
luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a
beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21
and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's
table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 "The time came when the beggar died and
the angels carried him to Abraham's side.
12.
13.
14.
15. It is going to be bad! Once you are there you
can never get out! Is there a way for you to
avoid this? Yes, there is one way, but what is it?
The way is Jesus. He tells us this in John 14.
John 14:1 NIV "Do not let your hearts be
troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.
2 My Father's house has many rooms; if that
were not so, would I have told you that I am
going there to prepare a place for you?
16. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come back and take you to be with me that you
also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to
the place where I am going." 5 Thomas said to
him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going,
so how can we know the way?" 6 Jesus
answered, "I am the way and the truth and the
life. No one comes to the Father except through
me.
17. Who is this Jesus?
I'm sure we all have answers for that question.
Let's read some of what Paul tells the Christians
in Collosse.
Colossians 1:13 NIV For he has rescued us from
the dominion of darkness and brought us into
the kingdom of the Son he loves,
18. He is the rescuer, He will deliver you.
Will you let him rescue you?
14 in whom we have redemption, the
forgiveness of sins.
He will bring you redemption,
forgiveness of sins.
Will you let him?
15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the
firstborn over all creation.
19. He is the image of God.
He tells us this Himself.
John 14:9 NIV Jesus answered: "Don't you
know me, Philip, even after I have been among
you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me
has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us
the Father'?
20. Resuming with the 16th verse.
16 For in him all things were created: things in
heaven and on earth, visible and invisible,
whether thrones or powers or rulers or
authorities; all things have been created
through him and for him.
21. He is the Creator, everything was created by
Him.
Not only were they created by Him,
but He is the reason they were created.
Everything was created for Him.
You were created for Him.
17 He is before all things, and in him all things
hold together.
22. He was before anything.
This is logical if He created everything.
He holds everything together.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church;
he is the beginning and the firstborn from
among the dead, so that in everything he might
have the supremacy.
23. He is the head of the church.
His church is His body.
He is the firstborn so that in all things
He will be supreme
19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness
dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to
himself all things, whether things on earth or
things in heaven, by making peace through his
blood, shed on the cross.
24. He reconciles everything to Himself.
He is the peace maker.
Peace was brought by Him shedding His blood
on the cross.
21 Once you were alienated from God and were
enemies in your minds because of your evil
behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by
Christ's physical body through death to present
you holy in his sight, without blemish and free
from accusation—
25. 23 if you continue in your faith, established and
firm, and do not move from the hope held out in
the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard
and that has been proclaimed to every creature
under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have
become a servant. 24 Now I rejoice in what I am
suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is
still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for
the sake of his body, which is the church.
26. His body is the church. If you are a part of the
church, you are a part of His body.
25 I have become its servant by the commission
God gave me to present to you the word of God
in its fullness— 26 the mystery that has been
kept hidden for ages and generations, but is
now disclosed to the Lord's people.
27. Your Bible probably says His saints. If you are
part of His body, you are one of His saints.
27 To them God has chosen to make known
among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this
mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of
glory.
He is in you if you are part of His body.
28. 28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and
teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we
may present everyone fully mature in Christ.
He is proclaimed so that we may be presented
perfect in Him.
29. 29 To this end I strenuously contend with all the
energy Christ so powerfully works in me.
He is energy, power which works in us.
He will keep you from entering the eternal
punishment if you love him.
How do you show your love for Jesus? He tells
us in John 14:15 NIV "If you love me, keep my
commands.
30. Do you love him? Will you obey His command
to believe in Him? You must if you love him. Will
you obey His command to repent of your sins?
If you love Him you will. Will you obey His
command to confess your belief? He says if you
love Him you will. Will you obey His command
to join Him in His death in the watery grave of
baptism for the remission of sins? If you
profess love for Him you must obey this
command and all His commands.
